The entirety of the project was produced by frequent Drain Gang collaborator, Gud. In an interview with Spotify, Bladee revealed that the project was recorded over a week-long period while Gud and Bladee had stayed Gotland, Sweden.

Composition and style
EXETER differs vastly from Bladee's previous work, Icedancer. While Icedancer contained more trap-influenced production by producer team Ripsquad, EXETER contains softer pop-influenced inflections and synths - seemingly influenced by fellow Drain Gang member Ecco2k's 2019 debut album E, as Gud had been involved heavily with the album.
