Tip of the moment...
Where to write about current events
The current events portal is used to describe current world-wide events of note, not just in politics, but also in science, culture, technology, sports, entertainment and many other areas. The information in question should be added to any relevant articles as well. However, Misplaced Pages does not offer first-hand news reports on breaking stories (use Wikinews for that). Instead, the in the news section on our Main Page mentions and links to entries of timely interest that are (and this is crucial) nonetheless encyclopedia articles that have been updated to reflect an important current event. Non-Administrators can suggest items or changes to this Main Page section by editing the candidates page, from which administrators will update the live template from time to time. from Bishnupriya Manipuri Wiki
Dear Ganesh,
Today you visited Bishnupriya Manipuri Wiki, and left a question for me that how did I translate 5000 Indian Cities in a short time? First of all I would like to thank you and your script. I was trying to contact with you and left a few lines at Ganeshbot/Requests page (22:52, 26 October 2006 (hist) (diff) User:Ganeshbot/Requests (→Requests for template substitution, replacement, or addition)) for your suggestion and help. Since then no response and page also move to archive or deleted.
Anyway, using your script, I created almost 80% of the Indian city within a month. I translate the database file 1 state at a time just using Windows Notepad, Avro Keybord (UniBijoy). I hope I will finish by next week.
I thank you again, and also I thank Ragib (from Bangla + English wiki) for his help and tips.

India
This is interesting...someone's been trying to make those changes for a few days now: Special:Contributions/MichaelWolfgang. When I reverted it the first time, I sent a polite note telling him to take it up on the talk page. -- Jim Douglas (contribs) 03:48, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ahh, I didn't realize it had been going on so long. The one I reverted was more elaborate, like the guy's trying to make some sort of POV point that India was a nation long before 1947. Thanks for sending that older diff; if I see something like this again, I'll just go ahead and revert it as simple vandalism. -- Jim Douglas (contribs) 04:05, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
Template:WP SouthAsia
Why did you block a template which I created and intended to expand? There is no rational point in blocking Template:WP SouthAsia. I want it unblocked and as I have decided to agree to keep current picture for the time being. Szhaider 12:28, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
Re:Please stop removing project tags
Where is that so-called discussion you talk about. I created South Asia tag to REPLACE India tags in those articles which are NOT about present day India. Tagging Pakistan related articles with Ashok Chakkar and calling the entire region India, which is now completely worng, is outrageous and offensive to the Pakistani Wikipedians. Ashok Chakkar is same as Indian flag and reflects favourism for a relogion, i.e. Hinduism which I think is against NPOV. Now using the map of entire region and saying this article is about India; well it is outright outrageous and completely unacceptable. You as an administrator should stay away from this on going dispute as your Indian background is making you take sides against me. Szhaider 18:30, 1 December 2006 (UTC) Shzhaider speaks for all of us.Adding Indian refference or tags to any Pakistani-related articles is indeed an offence to Pakistani wikipedians. My suspicion was that your Indian background in taking sides against Pakistani users which clearly violates the NPOV policy here on wikipedia. My suspicion to Shzhaiders claims are only confirmed when you threatened to report him to the board while simply begging a fellow Indian wikipedian not to remove tags.My best solution is to let a non-south asian wikipedian handle this dispute if wikipedia is to stay neutral and not be corrupted.Nadirali 21:17, 4 December 2006 (UTC)Nadirali
- What you think is favoritism is not favoritism. Its merely the facts. Pakistani history dates back to the 1930's. No one cares what Pakistani wikipedians think about India, its how documented phenomenon characterize the region. Ganeshk is not trying to be neutral, though he is trying to work a compromise.Bakaman Bakatalk 04:06, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

script box
Do you think you could start work on a script box for indic scripts? Misplaced Pages:Manual_of_Style_(Korea-related_articles)#Korean_templates is a good reference. The discussion seems to be headed to proposal 3.--D-Boy 04:09, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- I think the languages you should put for now are Bengali, Tamil, Malayam, Kannada, and of course Hindi. Maybe marathi if you want to squeeze it in. The sikh project mostly takes care of the punjabi. Those 5 should get in a good range of east, west , north and south like the cardinal directions of the 4 heavenly kings.--D-Boy 07:14, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- Also, can you put in the indic manual of style like the korean one. I really think we should start this because we're always having these edit wars.--D-Boy 07:15, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, you're going to do it like we did for the hindudiety box, where the type the name of the script and the script?--D-Boy 07:20, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

support for removing the Indus from the "History Of India" page
Ganeshk,I want to express my full support for Shzhaider, regarding the removal of the indus from the History of India page to either the page user:Szhaider has created or move it to the History of Pakistan page(prefferred). If you plan to report this dispute to the administrators notice board, then I want the board members in charge of resolving this dispute to know that he still will recieve my full support.Adding refference of the indus to the India history page is an offence to us Pakistani wikipedians as Szhaider claims.Nadirali 06:40, 2 December 2006 (UTC)Nadirali
- ...Removal of indus from History of India....
- What are you talking about? I suggest you go back and read through my conversations with Szhaider. -- Ganeshk (talk) 06:49, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- I'm sorry. this is just too funny. XD--D-Boy 06:50, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- Did Ganeshk ever discuss this dispute. No way. He just strated to support this indian bunch in every way he could and became a part of the dispute. Szhaider 18:27, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- Szhaider, I think Nadirali is confusing the IVC issue in article content with my discussion with you on the talk page tagging. The IVC issue should be addressed after discussions on History of India page. I was not part of any such discussion. The talk page tagging issue was discussed at the Indian notice board (under section template logo), I would suggest you and Nadirali read through that link. Nichalp has explained why history should be part of the scope of the regional projects. Please comment over there if you have any objections. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 19:46, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- For reference - ...,I want to add full support for your edit wars...
- Reply - and that's nothing compared to retroactively falsely creating a "Pakistani history"? Harappa has nothing to do with the ISlamic Republic of Pakistan except for the fact that it lies in the geographic boundaries of the country. Pakistan had no history before 1947.Bakaman 23:12, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
Dont confuse the people of Pakistan or their ancestors with Islam.Pakistani history predates Islam and goes all the way back to thousands of years BCE.Just as Iraqi history predates Islam and can be traced to the Babylonian times.Nadirali 21:08, 4 December 2006 (UTC)Nadirali

Hi Ganeshk,
Dangerous-Boy mentioned that you were working on an Indian name table, so I wanted to let you know that I mocked one up at User:Visviva/Test. Please feel free to use any of the ideas there, or not, as you see fit. The one I made needs more work -- and almost certainly more languages -- but you'd know better than I exactly what is needed. India Article
Please see the citations for the adding. It was taken from the Ayyavazhi article and the sources are University Papers. See that 8000 worship centers for Ayyavazhi through out South India. It may definitely more than that of the numbers of Zorastrians and Jews in india. - 61.1.210.227 23:31, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- University papers are not doing? Please see the citations i cited earlier. Those two are from Two leading university's publications. One from Madras University and Other from Madurai kamaraj university. How are you objecting it? - 61.1.210.227 23:37, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- Also Iam bringing in again the foot note related to the Univ Papers you deleted. Isn't it important there? - 61.1.210.227 23:49, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- But as per Wiki policies University papers are considered valid sources. Also if you've gone through previous discussion please see the page of Ayyavazhi for the citation. The sources are all LMS Reports, University Papers, or Historians whose are view points from valid neutral poles, except for belief related things. Also three dists in Tamil Nadu are declared Holiday for an Ayyavazhi festival. It shows that definitly Ayyavazhi followers are more than that of Zorastrians, jews etc in India which are already mentioned in the INdia article. - 61.1.210.227 00:02, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
reply
Since theres no such thing as "Pakistani history" my removing the tags is justified. I dont care what two POV-pushers will do or not do about it. If they accuse me of being an Indian nationalist, I am one of the more active members on WikiProject Bangladesh where we have no problems between West Bengali, non-Bengali, and Bangladeshi editors. Many Pakistani editors engage in removing "Indian imperialism" and "Bengali traitor propaganda", and I merely undo their bad faith vandalism. Putting a Pakistani flag on ancient Hindu cities makes no sense.Bakaman 23:43, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
Putting a Pakistani flag on ancient Hindu sites makes no more sense than putting any refference to India or Indian tags in Pakistan's history page.I too question the diversity of wikipedian adminitrators.Nadirali 21:01, 4 December 2006 (UTC)Nadirali
- I think pakistani history started a little before 1947 with the indepence movement. that's when it was created. I also find that extremely "offensive". pakistan definitely did not exist back then as far as the indus valley civilizations are concerned.--D-Boy 01:51, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Question about statistics table
Hi Ganesh, I think you were asked something like this before. I see 10 unassessed Top Importance articles. How do I access them? Shouldnt the number 10 be wikilinked or something? — Lost 12:17, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
- I have fixed the problem at hand by adding new cats to the template. BTW, would it break the Mathbot's functioning if we wikilink the stats to the relevant cats? Or can we program the mathbot itself to Wikilink it? — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 15:49, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
- Mathbot over-writes the stats-page everyday. Any changes to it will be lost. I requested Mathbot to link the categories to the numbers. But there were no takers for the idea. They wanted me to use Misplaced Pages:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/India_articles_by_quality/1 for that purpose. It is a page that lists articles sorted by quality and importance. That is a tedious way of accessing the information I need. When other projects see the need, may be they will wikilink the cats. Who knows? Till then we just need to get the cats manually. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 17:59, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
- Lost, Answer to your question is Category:Unassessed_India_articles_of_Top-importance, that Ambuj created. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 18:02, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks Ganesh and Ambuj. — Lost 07:07, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Help needed in Carnatic music
Hi. I need a bit of help from you regarding Carnatic music. There are a couple of editors User:Srkris and User:Sarvagnya who seem to be dead against a paragraph in this article. The paragraph is exactly seven sentences long and almost every sentence is cited, some of them from multiple sources. This paragraph is infact has the highest number of citation in the entire article. There is nothing controversial about the paragraph either. However these users seem to have a POV against this paragraph. I haven't received any vaild reasons for the deletion apart from vaguely labelling them 'fake', 'rubbish', 'half truth', 'impretinent', etc. I'm tired of this. BTW Srkris got blocked for a week for his violations of policy. I haven't heard any explanations from the other users as yet. Can you please help dealing with these users? thanks Parthi 06:01, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Formation of India in Infobox & framing of 'Expelling'
Dear Ganeshk,
There is a fierce discussion going on in the India page with Fowler&fowler trying to impose eurocentric views on words such as "Colony" and removing "Formation" info from the India Infobox. I request you to put in your comments supporting the removal of the sentence "Colonised as ..." and reframing it to "India emerged as a...expelled the non-natives...single nation-state". I also request your support for the Formation info in the infobox. Additionally I also request your support that references need not be necessary all the time (as all references contain eurocentric terms).
An Indic page should contain non-nationalistic Indic views only, and not eurocentric views.

Proposal for "how to get started" bots page - your opinions?
I think there is confusion on how to go about starting a bot (eg here and here) and there is no wikipage covering this, the main bot page talks only about policy, not avenues for getting started, how to make a bot etc. I have made a suggestion that a howto page be established and, as a frequent editor helping out with bots, I would appreciate your comments. Many Thanks - PocklingtonDan 07:51, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Ref conv
Sorry for the downtime. References converter is now back up and running. About a week ago the hard drive in my server crashed. Luckily it stayed together long enough to allow me to pull all the data off onto a new hard drive, but I still had to go through the process of installing Linux on the new hard drive, installing all the necessary programs, and loading in all of the old data from the server. I got all of my essential services up within two days (CVS, Apache, Wiki), but I kind of forgot about web scripts, which I finally got around to fixing today. Everything should be fully functional again. If you see any bugs, just send me a message. You are receiving this message because you are on the spamlist. Bogus warning messages in my Talk page
Hi. User:Ncmvocalist, with whom I have a dispute in the Carnatic music article, insists on leaving NPA and Civil warnings in my Talk poage with no evidence. Can you please review this and remove these warning if you deem them inappropriate. You may also want to see this regarding this matter. Thanks Parthi 00:41, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Ganesh, with regard to the above (and below), this may provide a little more context behind the warnings he received from me:
- The user, having agreed less than 10 days ago, indirectly agreed that the article talk page isn't the place to make personal attacks ], chose to make unnecessary remarks about other users (i.e. me in this case) ], rather than simply asking for comment on content. Further to this, he has made an incivil remark (a personal attack seeing my name was mentioned before this) and failed to assume good faith in saying that it is blatant anti-tamil POV and bias. Prior to 11 December, not just on the Carnatic music talk page, but also on other pages, he has made remarks that are incivil or constitute personal attacks.
- As was said by him in the first link I provided, warnings(templates) were left on his page for his violations (by me), and this isn't the first time he has made a string of personal attacks or incivil remarks, and been warned. Ncmvocalist 02:26, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Ganesh, while you are reviewing the above, if you have time, I would very much appreciate a sanity check on my interactions. ,
, , , , , , , , , , , , , , . Thanks. (Unfortunately, these diffs do not show the behaviors to which I was responding. If you are interested, I can provide them as well, but I am mostly interested in feedback about my own comments). Sincerely --BostonMA 01:40, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- I feel there is a lot of tit-for-tat tagging of warning templates. The warning templates help make users aware of the policies. I feel Venu and Ncm are established users and don't need to be educated of policies here. I would suggest you two to cool down and stop placing talk-warnings. Please assume AGF and discuss and work-out content issues.
- Boston, I feel you are right in removing these templates. I am going to do the same. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 03:43, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Re:IIPM
Hey, Ganesh, I was the admin who processed your request for semi-protection for IIPM. Another user cannot edit the page and asked me if I could unprotect the page. He also says he was the one who originally asked for semi-protection, and I just wanted to run this by you. Do you think I should unprotect for 3 days so the user will be allowed to edit, or should I just tell him to wait until the 26th and then he will be allowed to freely edit the page? Thanks for your insight. By the way, the whole conversation at my talk page. See User talk:Nishkid64#IIPM Edit Protect. Nishkid64 18:14, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
