In 2009, you fully-protected this disambiguation page.

Please consider reducing the protection to pending-changes or semi-protection (or both) and putting an expiration date on it (I suggest 1 year - if there is no attempted abuse during that time then let it expire).

Hello

Hi Alison, I just had a conversation with User:Wbm1058 and he suggested I contact a Checkuser. Yours was the first name on the list so I am writing to you first. I have been accused of being a sock and would like to prove my identity to the Wikimedia Foundation please. Can you assist? Faithfully YuHuw (talk) 07:17, 10 January 2016 (UTC)

Karmanyevadhikarste...

Hi ! I had created this page. After creation of page someone had added that "Please translate this page in 2 weeks, after that we delete it." After this notice I had done some translation work in that page. After translation someone put that page in Speedy deletion and an admin deleted that page. Because first person have given me 2 week's time. So I was doing my translation work slowly. This was the point one. Second point is I want to create that page again see here and guide me about content. Third point is someone putted my commentary under copyright violation test. So please tell me how that text was under copyright violation ? And is this commentary under copyright violation ? NehalDaveND (talk) 09:33, 13 January 2016 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:Tor Ekeland

Hello, Alison. It has been over six months since you last edited your Articles for Creation draft article submission, "Tor Ekeland".

In accordance with our policy that Articles for Creation is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code.

Thanks for your submission to Misplaced Pages, and happy editing. Anonymouspoutateoh (talk) 05:16, 18 February 2016 (UTC)

List of state leaders in 2016 Rfc

Howdy Alison. There's been concerns raised about the neutrality of an Rfc at List of state leaders in 2016. Was wonder if you would review this & consider closing the Rfc - with freedom to make your own judgement on how it should be closed, of course :) GoodDay (talk) 19:53, 18 February 2016 (UTC)

It's a little unusual that a sock puppet would call in a CU strike on his own position, but - well, thanks for that, and thanks for keeping an eye out for sleepers. This fellow is persistent. JohnInDC (talk) 00:28, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
Here is an editor, account created on the heels of the block of the blocks above, who leapt right in to make edits echoing those of an antecedent sock Wowser Bowser, down to the edit summaries - compare one and two as well as three and four. The common identities of these are all laid out at the SSI archive. If you have time for one of those sleeper checks, this might be a good time! Let me know too if you'd prefer I submit a report at SSI. Thanks. JohnInDC (talk) 17:07, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

I know nothing about Misplaced Pages and how to format properly; however, I was just stopping by to say hello. My name is Josh and I'm 24 years old, from Cleveland, Ohio.

I am just stopping by because I learned you have been editing Misplaced Pages for over 10 years, and I want to commend you for that.

I've seen the ignorant-assed people here so this is not an easy job I'm sure.

At any rate, take care, hope to hear back from you. :)

Hi Alison, I have a question about if it's possible to get some help finding out the IP-address of a specific user name? I am quite new here and I have built a new article (Anders Grahn). And the thing is that one person has tried to destroy it for about 6 times already. The user is putting ”fun names” and stories in the text. Nothing violent though, just some kind of "vandalism". So, is it possible to find out who that person is? Or should I just continue to clean up the article?

Do you have any tips how to make things like this stop?

Thanks and regards, ~~AceWi~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by AceWi (talkcontribs) 15:20, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

Alison, it seems you're one of very few people to be both OTRS operators and members of WP:MED. Could you please take a look at ticket:2016042710023692? Wiki Loves Pride 2016

As a participant of WikiProject LGBT studies, you are invited to participate in the third annual Wiki Loves Pride campaign, which runs through the month of June. The purpose of the campaign is to create and improve content related to LGBT culture and history. How can you help?

  1. Create or improve LGBT-related Misplaced Pages pages and showcase the results of your work here
  2. Document local LGBT culture and history by taking pictures at pride events and uploading your images to Wikimedia Commons
  3. Contribute to an LGBT-related task force at another Wikimedia project (Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, Wikivoyage, etc.)

Looking for topics? The Tasks page, which you are welcome to update, offers some ideas and wanted articles.

This campaign is supported by the Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group, an officially recognized affiliate of the Wikimedia Foundation. The group's mission is to develop LGBT-related content across all Wikimedia projects, in all languages. Visit the affiliate's page at Meta-Wiki for more information, or follow Wikimedia LGBT+ on Facebook. Remember, Wiki Loves Pride is about creating and improving LGBT-related content at Wikimedia projects, and content should have a neutral point of view. One does not need to identify as LGBT or any other gender or sexual minority to participate. This campaign is about adding accurate, reliable information to Misplaced Pages, plain and simple, and all are welcome! If you have any questions, please leave a message on the campaign's talk page.

Thanks, and happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:43, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

Paid advocacy / COI?

The images added to Misplaced Pages and pushed by Peter Isotalo in Bra were not just uploaded by him, but were paid for by a swedish government agency looking to support a certain POV. See this posting. Is this paid advocacy/COI? It's one thing to add the images to Misplaced Pages and let others use them. It's quite another to push them on articles - not because they are good images, but because they are by design meant to push a POV and paid for by a government org. Spacecowboy420

Hey Alison, there's a situation developing with edits to Caster Semenya and Dutee Chand pages by this user. I've made 3 reverts to the Caster Semenya page as part of that situation due to WP:BLP violations. If you're able to take a look I would appreciate it. Thank you! Trankuility (talk) 13:39, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

Trankuility - If you're that concerned about a situation developing, why did you revert me on the Dutee Chand article, with the comment "WP:NPOV not evident in edit summary" ? Personally, I revert content, based on the actual content. Are you reverting me, based on not liking my edit summary? Seriously? Spacecowboy420 (talk) 13:54, 18 August 2016 (UTC)
The edit summary clearly explained your rationale. Trankuility (talk) 13:57, 18 August 2016 (UTC)
I removed " She is one of four daughters born to the poor weaver couple. " from the article. Look at the edit, not the edit summary or the editor. Spacecowboy420 (talk) 13:59, 18 August 2016 (UTC)
  • And I have restored that edit and provided references. Please bear in mind that WP:BLP doesn't just apply to article content. There's a reason edit summaries get redacted around here. Mocking subjects like that is just a shitty thing to do as a human being anyways - Alison 01:53, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
Why would "hahaha. NO" in an edit summary, be subject to anything to do with BLP? Why would you think that you saying that I'm doing something "shitty" is any less offensive, than me saying "hahaha. NO"? BTW. The source you provided didn't mention her parent's occupation or the family's poverty - that's what I wanted to remove. Well, that and the poor English " She is one of four daughters born to the poor weaver couple" (the content you restored) was not correct in the context of that paragraph. If you had asked me why I had removed that content, I would have told you. Surely stating that someone came from a poor family, without any supporting source, is a BLP violation? Spacecowboy420 (talk) 06:41, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
Your edit history, including times and order, is recorded on your "Contributions" page, Spacecowboy420, here. Trankuility (talk) 07:51, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
Thank you. I was actually aware of that, but I appreciate the effort to provide useful tips. Or was there a point that you were trying to make? Spacecowboy420 (talk) 08:18, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Alison. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Misplaced Pages:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:47, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:The 10,000 Challenge

Hi, at Misplaced Pages:The 10,000 Challenge we're striving to bring about 10,000 article improvements and creations for the UK and Ireland and inspire others to create more content. In order to achieve this we need diversity of content, in all parts of the UK and Ireland on all topics. Eventually a regional contest will be held for all parts of the British Isles, like they were for Wales and the Wedt Country. We currently have just over 1900 articles and need contributors! If you think you'd be interested in collaborating on this and helping reach the target quicker, please sign up and begin listing your entries there as soon as possible! Thanks.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:41, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:Sockpuppet investigations/Sarsaparilla

Alison, I know that you must think I'm wrong about this case, which is why you did not weigh in. But I'm not wrong. This latest editor is Tisane. All of the behavioral evidence is there. And I keep finding more. Would you please weigh in on this at the sock investigation page? For example, your opinion on the checkuser data and/or the behavioral evidence? I think you are familiar with Tisane's behavior. If not, consider looking at some of what I noted. What are the odds of another editor consistently editing with the asterisk like that? More BLP hijinks at Alicia Mochado

This. This guy wants to changed "gained too much weight", which itself is messed up to begin with (see my comment), to "swelled". As in "this living person swelled in weight". Marteau is clearly not here to build an encyclopedia (and it's mostly his edits that had to be rev del'ed) just to use it to attack people.

At the very least this guy needs a BLP warning... wait, he's already had one .Volunteer Marek (talk) 15:55, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

"Swelled" was the term the source (The Washington Post) used. The post did not say "gained too much weight. That you consider my removing the subjective phrase "too much" and substituting what the source actually said meriting a BLP warning is ludicrous. Marteau (talk) 20:26, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
The source used "swelled" to describe the ridiculous coverage of the phenomenon in tabloid press, it did not use the word as a description of what happened. Are you honestly going to pretend that a mainstream newspaper would use "swelled" to describe someone gaining weight? You knew this too, because it was pointed out to you. You're also wanting to put in crap about "rumors began to spread".Volunteer Marek (talk) 06:08, 8 October 2016 (UTC)
The source used the term, and not to "describe the ridiculous coverage". You are projecting an intent that is simply not there in the source. They used it unironically and used it to describe her gain. To "swell" means "to become larger"... there is nothing pejorative about it despite your bizarre hang up about the word. I simply do not understand why you are going on and on and on and ON about this... I was willing to drop the matter upon first objection of anyone and did not pursue this word's inclusion any further after first objection, but you keep harping on this, and I'm not sure why, but you genuinely seem to have become unhinged about this and other matters with the encyclopedia and I sincerely recommend a long Wikibreak. Marteau (talk) 06:24, 8 October 2016 (UTC)
Is English your first language? Because I don't know where you have obtained this idea that the term "swell" is bad... it is actually a common medical term. I encourage you to go to Google, and put "weight swelled" into it (with the quotes, to capture the phrase). It will demonstrate that the word is not a pejorative, it is not outrageous, and it is actually a mainstream term. Marteau (talk) 06:35, 8 October 2016 (UTC)

200,000 edits+

I reached another milestone, although the edit counter now says 199,637 but I know it's more. Don't know, some kind of glitch, I guess. (Not including certain other edits made under, shall we say, other noms de plume , way back in the dark, tenebrious, distant past.)
Always,

Please see deleted comment from talk page

Hello, I've chosen you as a random admin to look at this issue. Please look at User talk:Icarus of old and Ocean Vuong. I've tried to resolve a dispute in good faith through this editor's talk page, and he or she has responded by deleting my entire entry on their talk page. I don't want to say anything more, in order not to create bias, so I'll let you research this. Thank you for your attention to this. Castncoot (talk) 20:59, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

In the event you're on a Wikibreak, I've reverted his edit in the article and also restored my own constructive entry on his talk page. Best, Castncoot (talk) 18:04, 11 October 2016 (UTC)

Another admin (User:EdJohnston) informed me that this editor had the right to delete a comment from his own talk page, so I have re-deleted that comment. Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Alison.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:46, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

  • Hi Robert. And Nollaig shona dhuitse, freisin! :) I'm not sure what's going on there, but I reverted it for now. The IP traces to some Singaporean mobile IP, as do some of the others on that article. I'm largely retired, but I'll keep a watch here. For now, I'd say just ignore. You've certainly done nothing wrong here - Alison 07:31, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

Will always be grateful for your help. Thanks for seeing something redeeming in me. I spend so much time on Misplaced Pages that my brother and my best friend are constantly assailing me. Now that I am not working, it gives me something to do and a feeling of worth. Irish language version of the above courtesy of Google.com/translate is:

An mbeidh a bheith i gcónaí buíoch as do chabhair. Go raibh maith agat as féachaint rud redeeming i dom. chaitheamh mé an oiread sin ama ar Vicipéid go mo dheartháir agus mo chara is fearr ag assailing gcónaí dom. Anois nach bhfuil mé ag obair, tugann sé rud éigin a dhéanamh agus a mothú ar fiú dom.

Checkuser input needed

Came to you after picking some random entries at Special:Listusers with CU selected. Is there a CU noticeboard? I would have gone there, rather than coming to you (and a few other random CUs) directly, if I could have found anything beyond the clerks' page.

Would you please visit Misplaced Pages:Templates for discussion/Log/2016 December 8 and offer input in the {{IPsockCheckuser}} section? It was nominated on the grounds of "This exposes Checkuser info to non-Checkusers", which makes sense, but on the other hand it's been around since 2008, so if it's truly a violation, it probably would have been deleted by now. I've voted "keep until we hear from some CUs", so hearing from you would be helpful. Thanks!

Finally, a bit that I didn't include in the above message, which I copy/pasted to four other CUs' pages — your editnotice uses File:Emails.jpg, which was deleted in early 2015. Nyttend (talk) 13:11, 17 December 2016 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:Hermaphrodites with Attitude

Hello, Alison. It has been over six months since you last edited your Articles for Creation draft article submission, "Hermaphrodites with Attitude".

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Misplaced Pages, and happy editing. 1989 (talk) 01:24, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

ED

Upon doing some digging, I see that an exception was made in the past to wrap Encyclopedia Dramatica's url in nowiki tags for the purpose of its article. Fair enough. However, do we have any reliable sources about the authority of the url we're pointing people to? It would not be the first time some random person hosted a mirror of this sort of content just to exploit the incoming traffic. This comes up all the time with Tor .onion links, which have no central registration authority and so very frequently subject to a copy of a site going up at a different address, with different intentions... Seems to me reliable sources are in order to provide any "unofficial" url, no? — Rhododendrites \\ 12:30, 27 March 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi there. Given that it's Encyclopedia Dramatica we're talking about, you're not going to find much in terms of a WP:RS which will authenticate the .rs TLD switch. I happen to know that it's the same crew that ran the .se site, but that's obviously a primary source. My recommend would be to leave it as-is for now - Alison 18:25, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
    • We had the Daily Dot for the previous one, I believe, but I don't think "there are no reliable sources for it because of the nature of the subject" is a good reason to include something without reliable sources. The opposite, really (regardless of its content). Linking to unsourced unofficial domains hosting mirrors of a site run, presumably, by just some user/fan of the site, especially when that site is associated with trolling, harassment, doxing, etc.... seems seriously problematic for WP:EL. — Rhododendrites \\ 23:59, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
      • Hi there. I didn't actually say that there are no reliable sources. What I did say was that "you're not going to find much" in terms of a WP:RS. And we've been over this ground again and again over the past 5 or 6 years, starting in 2010 when the .com domain was taken down by Girlvinyl, and subsequently popped up again at .ru and .es, finally settling down for the longest time at .se. Each time, it's basically the same crew running the show. In fact, I know a number of them, given that I'm an ex-sysop there. Not that that helps, as it's a primary source. My point here is that yes, it's the same site, as time will prove out. But in the meantime, there will be the same back-and-forth over the links. Because - let's be honest - many folks would rather there was no link at all there due to ED being taboo on Misplaced Pages. WP:*IS*CENSORED, if you like. There was an entire failed policy proposal around exactly that, in fact, about a decade ago - Alison 01:30, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

You're describing around 95% of Misplaced Pages's user talk pages (at the time of writing we have 31,327,765 registered accounts, only 31848 of which are active in even the broadest sense). Unless you have any actual evidence that a user is deceased, this kind of comment is grossly inappropriate. ‑ Iridescent 20:17, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

Whether you think it's relevant or not is—er—irrelevant; if I ever see you make a grossly inappropriate comment like this again without evidence, you're blocked. The BLP policy applies to Misplaced Pages's editors just as much as it does to its article subjects, and you can't get much more of a BLP violation than claiming someone is dead without evidence. ‑ Iridescent 21:54, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

Requesting a copy of Linuxbeak s "admin stuff" page about JarlaxleArtemis

Greetings, Alison. Sorry to disturb you but I was checking the arbitration and LTA pages of JarlaxleArtemis and frankly, I was quite interested on how long his case is and that he had over 3 (!) arbitration cases. In one of them, it says case was closed due to a permanent ban by reasons detailed in Linuxbeak s admin stuff. But when I tried to view it to learn more, it was for some reason blanked as an "Courtesy" and all previous revisions were revdeleted. Since I have a knack for history and that I would like to learn the full picture, I request a copy of said article before it was revdeleted and courtesy blanked. As I don't like censorship and absence of information. Along with screenshots of his most serious violations. For example, that attack on his teacher. Feel free to blur out personal details if you like I just want more info. Eric8123 (talk) 07:01, 18 September 2017 (UTC)

Drafts for Move (company) and Realtor.com articles

Hi, Alison. I noticed you are a top contributor to the Zillow article, so I was wondering if you might be willing to review proposed drafts I've submitted for consideration on behalf of Move, since they are somewhat similar to the Zillow article. I have saved expanded and updated versions of the Move (company) and Realtor.com articles; you can view the Move draft here and the Realtor.com draft here. Both articles have edit requests on their respective talk pages.

During this project, Move has provided feedback to ensure accuracy. Given my conflict of interest, I will not edit either article directly and ask independent editors to review them for accuracy, neutrality, and verifiability. I noticed the Zillow article has been tagged for conflict of interest editing, but I'm working transparently and have added appropriate COI banners to both talk pages. Do you have any interest in reviewing either draft, or know someone who may be? I've posted some notes on WikiProject talk pages but so far no changes have been made to either article. Thanks for your consideration. Inkian Jason (talk) 18:02, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

ArbCom 2017 election voter message

Hello, Alison. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Taleb reverts

I am very disappointed to see you edit war without responding to my clearly stated objections to the content as you insist on reinstating it in the article. It's undue because (as noted, explained, etc.) the two authors are not knowledgeable experts who have the understanding to evaluate whether Taleb "predicted" such events. The meaning of "predicted" is not defined either in the article or in the sources -- and although you may not be familiar with the issues that "prediction" entails in this context, I assure you they are numerous and complex. Finally "he is credited with..." in Misplaced Pages's voice, without telling our readers the authors are an op-ed political pundit and a British fiction writer who dabbles in newspaper work is indeed WP:WEASEL -- and rather egregiously so.

I'm at a loss to understand why you would edit-war this stuff with a derisive/dismissive edit summary rather than engaging on talk to establish your reasons and also to help focus this article on a better-sourced and more encyclopedic treatment of Taleb's work. And among other things, it sets the example (with your snarky edit summary, of endorsing or enabling the other editor's dismissive abuse of Rollback to do the same thing you just did. @NeilN: in case he's interested. The e-mail is about an editor who I've discovered is a creep and a predator. Lolifan (talk) 13:48, 10 November 2018 (UTC)

Realised, thanks to talking to Bishonen, that I should be sending it to ArbCom, not to random admins basically asking "could you block this person?". If you see my e-mail, please delete it - I intend to send it to ArbCom. Lolifan (talk) 21:14, 16 November 2018 (UTC)

Merry Merry

Happy Christmas!
Hello Alison,
Early in A Child's Christmas in Wales the young Dylan and his friend Jim Prothero witness smoke pouring from Jim's home. After the conflagration has been extinguished Dylan writes that

Nobody could have had a noisier Christmas Eve. And when the firemen turned off the hose and were standing in the wet, smoky room, Jim's Aunt, Miss. Prothero, came downstairs and peered in at them. Jim and I waited, very quietly, to hear what she would say to them. She said the right thing, always. She looked at the three tall firemen in their shining helmets, standing among the smoke and cinders and dissolving snowballs, and she said, "Would you like anything to read?"

My thanks to you for your efforts to keep the 'pedia readable in case the firemen chose one of our articles :-) Best wishes to you and yours and happy editing in 2019. MarnetteD|Talk 07:46, 18 December 2018 (UTC)

Administrators must secure their accounts

The Arbitration Committee may require a new RfA if your account is compromised.

View additional information

Why have I received this message?
All administrators are receiving it.
What prompted you to send this message?
Recently, several Misplaced Pages admin accounts were compromised. The admin accounts were desysopped on an emergency basis. In the past, the Committee often resysopped admin accounts as a matter of course once the admin was back in control of their account. The committee has updated its guidelines. Admins may now be required to undergo a fresh Request for Adminship (RfA) after losing control of their account.
What do I need to do?
Only to follow the instructions in this message.
  1. Check that your password is unique (not reused across sites).
  2. Check that your password is strong (not simple or guessable).
  3. Enable Two-factor authentication (2FA), if you can, to create a second hurdle for attackers.
How can I find out more about two-factor authentication (2FA)?
You can find out more about 2FA at m:2FA.

This message was sent to all administrators following a recent motion. Thank you for your attention. For the Arbitration Committee, Cameron11598 02:45, 4 May 2019 (UTC) Template:Z152

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC) Template:Z83

Hello

I am just dropping a message to say hi, and that you are appreciated! ^-^ I honestly hope you don't fully retire as you have done a lot for Misplaced Pages and so many people here. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 17:02, 25 July 2019 (UTC)

  • Thanks! :) I'm very little here now, but dip in every now and again. Thinking of maybe getting more involved in CU, or retiring the bit - we'll see! - Alison 18:03, 30 July 2019 (UTC)

Damon Runyon's short story "Dancing Dan's Christmas" is a fun read if you have the time. Right from the start it extols the virtues of the hot Tom and Jerry

This hot Tom and Jerry is an old-time drink that is once used by one and all in this country to celebrate Christmas with, and in fact it is once so popular that many people think Christmas is invented only to furnish an excuse for hot Tom and Jerry, although of course this is by no means true.

No matter what concoction is your favorite to imbibe during this festive season I would like to toast you with it and to thank you for all your work here at the 'pedia this past year. Best wishes for your 2020 as well A. MarnetteD|Talk 19:35, 19 December 2019 (UTC)

IP Block Exemption Request

Hello. Because you are a CheckUser I am requesting that you allow me IP Block Exemption access in order to edit Misplaced Pages over Tor. I am leaving my current country for an extended period of time to live in a country where censorship is prevalent. I will require Tor access in order to continue to edit Misplaced Pages. -Splinemath (talk) 03:37, 25 December 2019 (UTC)

Tuam Home scandal - again....

Hello again, Alison. I don't know if you have the time - or patience! - to revisit Bon Secours Sisters the content disputes. Another editing war has recently erupted over attempts to constrain unneeded and distracting details of the scandal on this page; see Talk:Bon Secours Sisters for more on the dispute. Essentially, the scandal already has extensive coverage in several other pages that are specific to the Tuam institution and the related investigations. Lending a moderating hand might help. I've raised this matter here. Thnx Alison, & Stay Safe! jxm (talk) 01:27, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi Anthony. Yes - they just edited your talk page and changed the link to the archive. You can see it in the comment above when you click on the link. I just renamed the link back to where it should have been :) - Alison 23:07, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

Malia Obama: should the redirect be unprotected?

Hi Alison. This redirect goes to Family of Barack Obama#Malia and Sasha Obama. Of the admins who protected this redirect in the past, you are the only one who is still active. See the proposal for unprotection at RFPP. Do you agree with unprotection? Since there was originally an AfD (more than 10 years ago) should there be a DRV to allow creation of an article? Thanks for any opinion, EdJohnston (talk) 19:59, 13 July 2020 (UTC)

Please help

hello my name is mark. i have been editing wiki for a long time (years). i apologize for bothering you. But I think I need help. My account has been flagged for some kind of violation callef a “Sock puppet“. I am a 50-year-old not particularly coumpter savvy guy. I love editing Misplaced Pages and it gives me a great sence of perpose.  Again I apologize, I’m crying while trying to type this in with my stylus. i dont know why someone would want to prank me. but i use just one account and do not understand what is going on. Im afraid my reputation on Wiki has been destroyed. i am disabled with only partial use my fingers and hands so it is hard for me to type. I am afraid that I’m not going to be able to edit on wiki anymore. Please help me.--Marked4life (talk) 20:48, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

Marked4life, As an editor who noticed this plea for help I am alerting Materialscientist who issued a block on Dunecorrino earlier today. They are a highly experienced admin here and will be able to work with you directly to understand with you what is taking place. Fiddle Faddle 21:02, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
Marked4life, They have access as an admin to areas I do not, and are able to get the drains up. As a non admin all I can see is that the user blocked earlier has an interest in armed forces as do you.
May I suggest that you relax over this, and await the admin I've pinged to have a discussion with you. I'm somewhat confused because sock puppetry when proven usually gets all involved blocked.
You could always have a chat with then on their own talk page. All the dealings I've had with them have been 100% straightforward. We expect that of all our admins Fiddle Faddle 21:19, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
