Previously, MD 99 continued past Route 29 onto Rogers Avenue into historic downtown Ellicott City, but the Rogers Avenue section has since been decommissioned.
Trivia
US 29 has its northern terminus at MD 99 in Ellicott City. US 29's southern terminus is in the Florida Panhandle at the Gulf of Mexico.
At one time, MD 99 east of St. John's Lane, including the decommissioned portion, was designated as Maryland Route 105.
