Danny Desmond Makkelie (born 28 January 1983) is a Dutch professional football referee. He has been a FIFA listed referee since 2011 and took charge of the final of the 2012 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship as a UEFA Elite referee.
A former police officer in South Holland, he has worked full-time for the Royal Dutch Football Association since 2010. He was selected to take part in the 2018 FIFA World Cup as a video assistant referee, including the Final on 15 July.
He made controversial calls as the Video Assistant Referee to retake penalties during the 2019 Women's World Cup in both the France-Nigeria Match and the Jamaica-Italy Match.
On 18 August 2020, Makkelie was appointed as the referee for the 2020 UEFA Europa League Final between Sevilla and Inter Milan.
