Thanachart Bank Public Company Limited (TBank) (Template:Lang-th) is a bank headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand. It commenced operations on 22 April 2002 with Thanachart Capital PCL (TCAP) as its parent company. The bank is Thailand's sixth-largest bank (in assets).

History

Thanachart Bank began operations on 22 April 2002 with a restricted banking license. It was granted a full commercial banking license by the Ministry of Finance on 1 March 2004.

In 2007, Scotiabank bought 24.98 percent of TBank's shares, later increased to 48.99 percent. TCAP's shareholding portion decreased to 50.92 percent. In July 2011 Scotiabank transferred all of its Thanachart Bank shareholdings to Scotia Netherlands Holdings B.V. As of 31 December 2014, TBank was 50.96 percent owned by TCAP and 48.99 percent owned by Scotia Netherlands Holdings.

TMB-Thanachart Bank

In 2019, Thanachart agreed to merge with TMB Bank, a retail bank in Thailand, which would make the merged bank the sixth largest bank in Thailand. The merger is expected to be completed in 2021.

As of August 2020, the merger between TMB Bank (TMB) and Thanachart Bank (TBANK) proceeds as planned, with an expected completion date of July 2021. TMB and TBANK are committed to synergizing their banking and financial service offerings for the benefit of their customers and for a better banking experience. Both banks’ services are connected seamlessly, including co-locations, bill payments, car loan payments and a surcharge-free ATM network. The integrated organisation will exemplify a new definition of banking and will lead the Thai banking industry, as it will provide customers with better financial well-being.

Customer Service Update: Both banks’ electronic service offerings have been connected seamlessly, providing convenience for customers. Customers can now make payments for the following TBANK products – auto loans, car insurance, home loans, personal loans, credit cards, and debit cards – via the TMB TOUCH mobile application and TMB ATMs (except for home loans and car insurance payments). Meanwhile, TMB customers can use TBANK’s ATMs for cardless withdrawal function. Moreover, our customers can access both TMB and TBANK’s 4,900 ATM/ADM kiosks across the country as if they belonged to the same banking network. Whether you’d like to deposit, withdraw or transfer money, all transactions can be done with no extra fee.

Moreover, TMB and TBANK co-locations have officially been launched since the beginning of this year and have received much positive feedback. Co-locations make it easy for customers to access our products and services and serve their needs. As of June 2020, 44 TMB and TBANK co-locations are now available in Thailand. By the end of 2020, around 100 co-locations will be open: 60 in the Bangkok metropolitan area and more than 30 branches in provincial areas. In addition, TMB branch staff are now eligible to recommend TBANK’s car loan products – whether new car loans, used car loans, or car for cash loans – to customers. This progress illustrates our commitment to offering the best products and services to our customers.

Human Resources Update: Human resource reorganisation and staff transfers have proceeded as planned, thanks to TMB and TBANK’s 100% collaboration and enthusiasm. The staff are excited and ready to embark on a new journey with the new team, increasing the potential for the new bank. All of the new bank’s executives have been working together since the beginning of the year. In the past six months, we have re-located some of the staff to join the new team, including senior management officers, as well as supervisory and operational staff. Despite the current COVID-19 pandemic, our plan advances smoothly and we continue to meet our target goals. The cooperation and passion of the team has helped drive the tremendous progress of this merger.


Performance

For the year ending 31 December 2019, Thanachart Bank reported total assets of 1,003,721 million baht. Net profit for the year was 25,621 million baht. At the end of 2019 the bank had 494 branches, 11,296 employees, and 1,837 ATMs. It has more than four million customers nationwide.
