He has sung for many metal bands all around the world such as Defyance, The Kings Machine, Empire, Gemini, Decible, Magic Kingdom, Balance of Power, Pyramaze, Shining Star, and Avian. He is known for singing in a traditional metal style with falsetto vocals in the mold of James Labrie, Bruce Dickinson or Geoff Tate. Lance is also the founder & owner of the St. Paul, Minnesota based Nightmare Records Inc. which specializes in Progressive Metal and Power Metal and has a large selection of Christian Metal artists. King is himself a Christianand enjoys food, martial arts and of course, metal. He is married with a son and a daughter, whom he lives with in Minnesota.
In 1990 in order to get his first band, Gemini's, music out to the world, Lance King founded Nightmare Records in St.Paul, Minnesota. Since Nightmare Records' small inception in 1990, they have continued to sell only the best in power metal and prog metal and to date have sold over 2,000,000 albums.
In late 2006, word came out that Lance King had departed from what many people thought was going to be his new permanent band, Pyramaze. Currently, Lance has said nothing publicly about what he will be doing next, although his name seems to be getting tied to a top secret project dubbed "The Secret Society of Starfish" as well as another project being called Mourning Scar. Look for Lance to appear singing on Avian's second album due to come out in 2007.
