Sanchez Tanniehill is an inspirational gospel music artist whose soulful voice is most notably known for his songs “God Did It,” “Keep Praying” and “Cheers to You.” He has released three albums and is scheduled to release the fourth in the Spring of 2021. In addition, he is a community activist, a highly sought after youth evangelist, motivational speaker, and author. He has recently completed his biography, God Did It.
Sanchez was born a healthy child. When he was only six weeks old, he had a stroke and also suffered from spinal meningitis. The doctors did not give his parents much hope regarding his future stating that he would be wheelchair bound the rest of his life and he would never walk or talk. But life and statistics did not underestimate the love and determination of Sanchez's mother, Victoria.......she had the one thing on her side that helped them overcome so many of life’s challenges: her faith in God. His mother told the doctors “You don't know my Jesus.” His family came to the realization after he had been hospitalized for three months that, although he faced a lifetime of challenges, their son was a miracle. And, he continued to be an example of God's miracle working power as he began to walk and talk and even sing as early as the age of 2. And, by the very young age of 4 he knew he wanted to sing. He also knew that Gospel music was the avenue that God would use for him to share his story.
School was a challenge for him in the early years with kids taunting and teasing him. However, his mother never let him give up and encouraged him to participate in talent shows. It paid off and he won second place in a local talent contest when he was in middle school with his rendition of “I Believe I Can Fly.” He continued on with his scholastic pursuits at Thompson High School in Alabaster, AL and graduated in 2003. His spirit and determination helped him through high school and even won him accolades in local talent events. Eventually he went on to compete in American Idol in 2005 where he made it to the second round. As he continued to build on his talent, community leaders and other talented musicians began to notice this rising star earning him the affectionate nickname “Mr. Alabaster.”
He says “For many years now I have been blessed to travel around and share the testimony of what God has done for me through my music.” His single, “God Did It” is his testimony set to music. His newest single, “You Can” is a song that gives people hope that they can make it no matter what their situation may be. Some have described his music as joyous gospel praise with a positive message. His music tells a story that reaches out and connects with the soul of others who have also been through trials and tribulations of life and still walk strong in their faith with God. His powerful testimony is also an encouragement to those who are struggling with their faith in God.
The inspiration for his music comes from his family’s walk with God through adversity and also through the testimony of so many others that he has ministered to over the years. However, by writing and publishing his first book, God Did It, Sanchez desires to help others overcome any adversity that may try to stop them from living the victorious life God desires. In an interview with the Shelby County Reporter, he states “I want people to know that no matter what others say, go for your dreams, and try to reach your goals. People are going to talk regardless of what you decide to do, so you might as well try to aim high and go for it.” The book is designed to reach a wider audience with the message that, with God, dreams are possible regardless of the obstacles they might face. He continues by saying “I have overcome a lot of obstacles in my life, and I want to use my story to help others going through similar things. The book is meant to inspire, uplift and encourage people to pursue their dreams while keeping God the center of their lives.”
He shares in his book, God Did It, that "Jesus's life, death and resurrection from the dead served to demonstrate that God can take the most painful, unreasonable and brutal of circumstances and bring redemption and purpose out of it......essentially to redeem my story for His glory. The pain of my childhood has become the strength of my adulthood giving me a platform to share the good news with the world. God Did It has also been released in a children’s version delivering a powerful message to children that they can overcome any obstacle. It is also being used in schools and churches to teach a profound message of anti-bullying. I have had the privilege to share Jesus's life changing power across the United States and abroad in venues large and small, released three albums and one book, God Did It.” This book allows the reader to share in his journey and be inspired to overcome their struggles in much the same way.
Having endured the loss of his steadfast and faithful mother, he carries her message of Jesus’s enduring love and miracle working power in every note he sings, on every stage in which he performs and on every page of his book.
