2 sets of Great Lakes

Shouldn't this page be the main destination of typing "Great Lakes"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.7.130.139 (talk) 20:31, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

– There is no WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for "Great Lakes". The African Great Lakes are at least equally significant, and in aggregate contain more fresh water than their North American counterparts. Vpab15 (talk) 16:14, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

  • Inclined to oppose, because the proposal makes no case for its claim on primary, and amount of water, even were it the case, would seem to have nothing to do with it. Alanscottwalker (talk) 17:40, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
  • Oppose, "Great Lakes" is almost exclusively used to refer to the American ones, and there's no precedent for calling the U.S. ones the "Great Lakes of North America".

The article about the lakes in North America says they are also called that. I'm inclined not to believe it and don't see an obvious source for it anywhere. Having said that, I have heard "North American Great Lakes" now and again in my life. Maybe it's all just regionalisms? 122141510 (talk) 02:28, 27 July 2024 (UTC)
