Battle of Guadalajara - poorly written and wikified, possible copyvio + indeed very poorly written; broken english, POV, ambiguous. had a go at it, but this article can only be saved by someone knowledgeable on this subject. Srd2005 18:57, 7 Aug 2004 (UTC)

I'm working on it. Have fixed some glaring errors, added some information and improved the English in the first paragraphs; will continue working on it. Should be able to get around any copyvio; I've studied the Spanish Civil War, so I have several sources available, and can rewrite it without changing the basic structure. I think it's better now; should have fixed most problems. Have moved the page to Guadalajara offensive with redirect from the original page; this is a more appropriate name, used in NPOV literature. Have removed the source mentioned, as there is little left of it - it was a POV source, with grossly exaggerated Nationalist losses and a corresponding underestimate of Republican losses. I know that the word fascist is a red cloth to many, so I have only used it about Italian troops, which were clearly fascist, so that should be NPOV. I'll take another look at it in a couple of days. Removed the cleanup tag - if anyone thinks it should still have one, feel free to add it. Cnyborg 23:29, 25 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Battle of Guadalajara is probably the best title. Hugh Thomas, by far the most famous, respected, and objective English-language Spanish Civil War historian, has used it consistently since 1961. Google offers 450 results for "battle of guadalajara" 1937 and 484 for "batalla de guadalajara" 1937, while only a handful of Misplaced Pages mirrors and other spurious results turn up in a search for "guadalajara offensive".
WikiProject:Battles states: "Articles should be called something like Battle of Gettysburg. "Battle" is a neutral term and is preferred to "attack", "slaughter", "massacre", "raid", etc. But other names can be used if they are the most common ways to refer to the battle."
Please let me hear your views. I remain unconvinced that Guadalajara Offensive is the most common way to refer to this battle. Albrecht 03:10, September 5, 2005 (UTC)
