proposed merger
This Ludlow Tent Colony Site article is a brand new article, justified by the designation of the site as a U.S. National Historic Landmark a few days ago. I started it up separately from the Ludlow Monument article, because I believe the site is bigger and different (though am not sure). If it can be determined that these are the same, then certainly this should be merged into the Ludlow Monument article. If the Tent Colony Site is larger and also includes the monument, then I think the Ludlow Monument article should be merged into here. When more info can be added, i expect it will likely be clearer what to do.
By the way, at Talk:Ludlow massacre I closed a previous merger proposal for merger of the monument article into the Ludlow massacre article. In my view it seems abundantly clear there needs to be a separate article or two about the place(s), separate from article about the main event that happened there. doncram (talk) 05:13, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
- Landmark status is for the historic site, not the monument itself. I would recommend keeping them separate. Pustelnik (talk) 15:39, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
- The actual monument site is a fairly small area, and it is fenced off. The tent colony site is larger than this area, and presumably might include the remains of the ghost town itself, as well as Watertank Hill, where the Colorado National Guard set up machine guns. The very few remaining buildings from the Ludlow ghost town can be seen in the 4th and 5th photos, here:
- The buildings are south of, and maybe a little more than a quarter mile away from the monument.
- The tent colony site would also be a good location for research about how the area has changed since 1914. The railroad tracks in particular have moved. I think this is significant to the history, because during the assault on the colony a train arrived and temporarily blocked the gun fire.
- There was an archaeological dig at the tent colony site, which was outside of the actual monument area. Here's the website for that project:
- I think it makes sense to develop these separately, and see where they go. The monument has its own history, some of which is only tangentially related to the massacre, or to the tent colony site. I anticipate that this related but separate history will eventually be included in the monument article. Richard Myers (talk) 07:28, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
- The tent colony may be larger than the monument site, but it encompasses it, and the monument commemorates what happened at the tent colony. I therefore support a merge. I also note with some pleasure that I am continuing the trend of adding to this conversation once a year in January. See you in 2012 :). --Ori.livneh (talk) 04:51, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Separate articles. there is some overlap, but that is okay. I am going to remove the Merger tag because after a year, sorry, two years, keeping these seperate seems to be the prevalent view. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 18:45, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
- What relevant content there was here has been merged into Ludlow Massacre. Magic♪piano 19:50, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
