BLP concerns
The BBC and New York Times are careful not to name Suge Knight's victim. -- John of Reading (talk) 13:52, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
- Every RS I found bar one listed the victims age as 55. Only UPI lists it as 86 year old actor and some others speculate it "might be" this Terry Carter. It's too early to add this to wiki. SPACKlick (talk) 14:09, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
- Entertainment Weekly goes for it, per an apparent lawyer. InedibleHulk (talk) 14:18, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
- I think I'm leaning toward EW filling in the blanks on something Blatt actually said. TMZ has witnesses calling the victim an OG who works for a local tow truck company. This Carter seems a bit old for tow trucks. InedibleHulk (talk) 15:36, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
- But yeah, we can't make up our own minds for this. One source explicitly saying it is him beats another implying it isn't. InedibleHulk (talk) 15:42, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
- Not that I'm overwhelmingly inclined to trust the Daily Mail, but they explicitly say it isn't him. They refer to a 55-year-old Terry Certer. Different spelling and age. EW appears to be standing by their story, however. What's the recourse here? Do we just add the word "reportedly" to the article, or leave it alone until a definitive source contradicts it? Juansmith (talk) 16:35, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
- There'll probably be clearer stories about the confusion later today. Might be best to wait for them. The Daily Mail has as much credibility as my dog. I don't think we allow it for Misplaced Pages, but I could be wrong. It'd be weird if they were the only ones to spell the name right. InedibleHulk (talk) 16:41, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
- CNN clarifying the age of the deceased. I think it's pretty clear that EW filled in the blanks from what the lawyer said and its just been regurgitated as "fact" by lazy journalists and bloggers. --Mercifull 16:45, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
- Forgot link http://edition.cnn.com/2015/01/29/entertainment/suge-knight-hit-and-run/index.html --Mercifull 16:46, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
- More recent CNN link here - restates name as "Terry Carter, 55". I'm inclined to say this is enough to revert the article. -Juansmith (talk) 16:47, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
- I don't think there's much to discuss when in doubt, and less so when there's evidence to the contrary. Reverted it. --NoCultureIcons (talk) 17:01, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

- This KABC source also says Certer. Might be where the Mail heard it. Definitely linked to it. InedibleHulk (talk) 16:45, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
- Oh great, now we have the French confused. InedibleHulk (talk) 17:02, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
DerekHartley (talk) 17:03, 30 January 2015 (UTC)Surely his own Twitter account is definitive proof enough. https://twitter.com/tercar1/status/561189703769415681
- Seems we can probably trust him. Unless Suge Knight stole his phone. InedibleHulk (talk) 17:07, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
- People Magazine apparently heard it from a "law enforcement source". A lot of times, that's a catch-all term for "nobody", but at least it's different. InedibleHulk (talk) 17:06, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
- They've since corrected it without mentioning the correction. Wasn't me who got it wrong. InedibleHulk (talk) 20:00, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
- It depresses me we have to mention this "confusion" at all. Right from the start the age was given as 55 year old male. This incident only goes to show how lazy and feckless modern "journalists" are these days blindly republishing rumours as fact without checking Mercifull 11:11, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

Ridiculous
This article being protected to prevent Updates regarding Terry Carters death is ridiculous. Do you need to examine the body to prove its not a hoax? I — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xgllo (talk • contribs) 00:29, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
- Well, by now it is obvious that this Terry Carter wasn't Suge Knight's victim. The real victim was 55 years old, media has reported . ,,n (talk) 03:01, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
