Speedy deletion nomination of Marina DeBris

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Marina DeBris requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. noq (talk) 15:59, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

December 2011

Thank you for your recent contributions, such as Marina DeBris. Getting started creating new articles on Misplaced Pages can be tricky, and you might like to try creating a draft version first, which you can then ask for feedback on if necessary, with less risk of speedy deletion. Do make sure you also read help available to you, including Your First Article and the Tutorial. You might also like to try the Article Wizard, which has an option to create a draft version. Thank you. Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 16:26, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

Notability

The name was removed pending the outcome of this which is what the article looked like at the time it was removed from Found art - . Before adding names of individuals please familiarize yourself with wikipedia policies and guidelines Misplaced Pages:Policies and guidelines. This is also important to learn - Misplaced Pages:Notability - good luck...Modernist (talk) 01:22, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

Further questions, because I'm still unclear. These artists Gustavo Aguerre,Tolleck Winner have only one reference and very short bios, and these artists Guillaume Bijl, Tom Friedman, Rodney McMillian, Joe Rush, Tomoko Takahashi have no references and also short bios, so how are these artists notable? What criteria are used to judge these artists notable? I'm not saying these artists are not notable, but I'm asking for standard criteria that are applied to all artists equally. Why these and not Marina DeBris, who has more to her bio and more citations. What makes the difference?Socialresearch (talk) 04:42, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

Citations

Please see WP:CITE on how to properly format citations. It is good that you are doing the legwork to find sources, but citing them by just copy-pasting URLs and titles is literally just creating lots of cleanup work for other, later editors. In the edit window, the toolbar just above the edit box has a "Cite" option with a dropdown for selecting citation templates discussed at WP:CITE (you'd mostly want the "cite web" one.) Picking one pops up a little form, you fill in the details, and it auto-generates a filled-in citation template for you. Hope this helps. — SMcCandlish   Talk⇒〈°⌊°〉 Contribs. 23:45, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, I didn't notice that before. I'm slowly working my way through citations and will change them. Socialresearch (talk) 16:04, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

YouTube as a source

Normally it's not allowed. But if it's an official channel (say WWE.com's YouTube channel) then it can be accepted. Gorlack36 (talk) 13:26, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Marina DeBris Hoop Trash Dress.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Marina DeBris Hoop Trash Dress.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Misplaced Pages articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 00:21, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

Your submission at Articles for creation: Simon Letch (February 19)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by LaMona was: This submission's references do not adequately show the subject's notability. Misplaced Pages requires significant coverage about the subject in reliable sources that are independent of the subject—see the guidelines on the notability of people and the golden rule. Please improve the submission's referencing (see Misplaced Pages:Referencing for beginners), so that the information is verifiable, and there is clear evidence of why the subject is notable and worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia. If additional reliable sources cannot be found for the subject, then it may not be suitable for Misplaced Pages at this time. Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit when they have been resolved. The Holocaust

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in Eastern Europe or the Balkans. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Misplaced Pages's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

This is to let you know about the discretionary sanctions that uninvolved admins are able to apply to this area. Note that the template is purely informational. SarahSV 19:43, 10 April 2021 (UTC)

Your submission at Articles for creation: Helen Pitt (June 5)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Greenman was: This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Misplaced Pages article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Misplaced Pages. Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved. Greenman (talk) 11:57, 5 June 2022 (UTC)

Your submission at Articles for creation: Helen Pitt (October 14)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Nightenbelle was: This draft's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Misplaced Pages article. In summary, the draft needs multiple published sources that are:
Make sure you add references that meet these criteria before resubmitting. Learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue. If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Misplaced Pages. The comment the reviewer left was: I believe the subject is notable- however, all the sources seem to be connected to the subject closely. To establish notability- sources must be independent and provide significant coverage of the author- not simply something she is associated with (IE the opera House). If these type of sources can be found and added- this will be an excellent article. Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved. Nightenbelle (talk) 15:56, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
Hi. Thanks for the comments. I'm not really clear on what you mean when you say the sources are connected to the subject closely. The sources include Allen And Unwin Book Publishers, The Sydney Institute, ABC National Radio, Australian Broadcasting Corporation, BBC News, Women of Influence. It seems to me that all these sources are independent of her.
I'm also not clear on what you mean in saying "provide significant coverage of the author". Several sources review Helen Pitt's book, for example: Salvo, Natalie. "Book Review: Helen Pitt's The House is an exhilarating look at the Opera House's colourful & dramatic history". This seem to me to be significant coverage of Ms Pitt. These sources are about a book -she- wrote. Also, several of the sources were interviews -with- Helen Pitt. See references 9 and 10. By the way, neither of these organizations doing the interviews are connected with her. These sources all focus specifically on her or her book. She is the focus.
Would you please give me more information about how these sources might be considered to be closely connected with Ms. Pitt, or how these don't provide significant coverage of her?
Thank you.
