Welcome to the Novels WikiProject
Hi, and welcome to the Novels WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Misplaced Pages's coverage of topics related to fiction books, often referred to as "novels".
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated quite regularly. You can watch it if you're interested; or, you can add it directly to your user page by including {{WikiProject Novels announcements}} there.
While you are updating your userpage, don't forget our userbox {{Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Novels/Outreach/User WPNOVELS}}. - Important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
- Planning on starting some new articles? Our article structure guidelines / template outlines some things to include.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the coordinators or an experienced member of the project; we will be happy to assist in any way we can. Again, welcome, and we look forward to seeing you around! Sadads (talk) 12:36, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
Hello, our project has begun to fall a little bit behind the collaboration/organization department, would you, as an experienced editor be willing to help us revamp how we deal with issues? The template is a little behind because of this, but it points to some good places:) Do you have anything in particular you would like to do with us? Sadads (talk) 12:36, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
Hi Sadads, my main interest is adding inline references.--Sum (talk) 14:52, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
- Great!!! We definitely don't have a shortfall of work for you then. Why don't you take a look at our assessment chart and help with some of the Top and High C-class and B class articles then? We certainly don't turn out as many FAs and GAs as we use to, Sadads (talk) 17:27, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

Diplomatic cable listed at Redirects for discussion
An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Diplomatic cable. Since you had some involvement with the Diplomatic cable redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion (if you have not already done so). __meco (talk) 08:58, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

FYI
Please see Talk:United_States_diplomatic_cables_leak#Converting_lists_to_prose. I appreciate the stub you created, but it really belongs in the main article for now. Of course, if it gets too large, you should restore the redirect to expand the topic. However, at this point, it belongs in the main article, and we need to focus on creating more prose and less lists. Viriditas (talk) 10:43, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

DYK for Spying on United Nations leaders by United States diplomats
On 17 December 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Spying on United Nations leaders by United States diplomats, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the surprise about the WikiLeaks revelations of spying on UN leaders by US diplomats was not that it was done, but rather who would be doing it, and what information would be required? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Vinča criticality accident
Hi, you undid this change by me to Criticality accident, saying:
- restored, the ref from ilfattoquotidiano clearly says they all died under the transplant operation
Could you please point me to where exactly it says that? It is a very long ticker-style article that spans ten pages. I searched each of them for 'vin' (as part of Vinca, Vinča or similar) but did not find it mentioned anywhere. Even if it does say that ”they died under the transplant operation“, I have difficulty to believe this. Bone marrow is no solid organ, so the ‘operation’ consists of injecting the cells into the blood stream. If patient 1 had immediately died, then patient 2, I doubt they would have proceeded to do the same on patients 3 to 5. I still maintain that every other source says the five victims survived:
- A review of criticality accidents: “Of the six persons present, one died shortly afterwards, and the other five recovered after severe cases of radiation sickness.”
- Database of radiological incidents and related events: “All developed severe radiation sickness and one died. The five survivors all received experimental bone marrow transplants, which were rejected in all patients, although before rejection the transplants probably contributed to survival.”
- Dr. Georges Mathé, Transplant Pioneer, Dies at 88: “One physicist died from especially heavy exposure, and one was relatively unaffected. Dr. Georges Mathé … used the remaining four as guinea pigs in a radical experiment. … For the first time, a human marrow transplant seemed to take, and the physicists survived. It was called the first successful bone marrow transplant not performed on identical twins.”
I assume someone – possibly the Italian paper – read “transplants got rejected” and conjectured “patients died“, which is not a valid deduction. --Chirlu (talk) 13:09, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
Hi Chirlu, here is the quote from the orginal article:
il primo trapianto di midollo in Europa è stato fatto proprio a causa di un incidente nucleare, avvenuto negli anni ’50 nella ex-Jugoslavia. In quel caso si tentò l’operazione su alcuni scienziati, ma non si conosceva ancora l’Hla, cioè l”impronta digitale’ che differenzia il midollo di diverse persone e che rende necessario trovare quelle compatibili per il trapianto. Furono quindi trapiantati a caso, e purtroppo morirono tutti”.
The quote is reported in many news outlets, for instance , the original link given in March instead seems to be broken. Here is a rush translation:
the first bone marrow transplant in Europe, was exactly done because of a nuclear accident, which happened in the '50s in the former Yugoslavia. In that case the transplant operation was attempted on some scientists, but the HLA was still unknown; the HLA is the "fingerprint" which differentiates the bone marrow of different people, and which makes necessary to find those compatible for the transplant. Therefore they where transplanted randomly, and unfortunately they all died.
--Sum (talk) 13:28, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
OK, so this source really speaks of “dying”. As far as I understand the wider context, it is a quote from Franco Locatelli, an Italian doctor, from an interview regarding possible health effects of the Fukushima incidents.
Do you think this source is so strong that the claim of fatal outcomes should be upheld in the article, in spite of the other sources contradicting it? --Chirlu (talk) 02:00, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
- The nytimes source is enough for me to change the article and say that the operation was successful and the patients survived, until further sources are found. Still source #2 needs to be clarified when it says "before rejection the transplants probably contributed to survival." And source #1 also does not say that they survived the operation.--Sum (talk) 07:22, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

"Paganism"
I wonder whether you've read the article Religion in ancient Rome carefully and taken a look at some of the related material such as Glossary of ancient Roman religion. I'm concerned with how you're using the word Paganism and writing of "Pagan" temples and so on, when no such thing existed in ancient Rome. Cicero wouldn't have known what in the world you were talking about. See also my comments (OK, it's a bit of rant) at Talk:Libanius#Libanius was not a 'pagan'. And see Maijastina Kahlos, Debate and Dialogue: Christian and Pagan Cultures c. 360-430 (Ashgate, 2007), p. 18 online:
"Paganism was never a religion and there were no pagans before Christianity. Christians invented paganism, not only as a term, but also as a system."
Kahlos notes that "these people indeed exist as the category of 'pagans' in Christian discourse" (boldface mine). Kahlos's book uses the word "pagan" in its title, and finds the term necessary for the very reason that the book is framed by a Christian/non-Christian dialectic. The point is that the words "pagan" or "paganism" are anachronistic when applied to traditional forms of religion in antiquity before the rise of Christian hegemony, and do not reflect accurately how the practitioners of those religions viewed their own multifaceted religious lives. Kahlos's remarks on "paganism" are preceded by discussion of why "polytheism" is similarly unhelpful. This is not a matter of being PC and calling people what they called themselves; it's a matter of accuracy, as "Paganism" implies that all the various religions of the Empire — traditional Roman public and domestic religion; mystery religions; Mithraism; Celtic religion as it continued in the Gallo-Roman period; and so on — were all somehow one monolithic thing like Christianity. As an -ism, "Paganism" is the exact opposite of what religion in the Roman Empire was.
Apologies for the lecture, but I see you've been working away on articles that are valuable and relevant to some areas to which I regularly contribute, and I just felt compelled to throw this out for your consideration. Check my user page if you want to see better where I'm coming from on this. Cynwolfe (talk) 23:41, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I'm not sure of your intentions, but please only add content to articles, as you did to 10 O'Clock Live, if it relates to the content around it. You addition of a link to political satire made absolutely no sense in context and made the sentence it was added to not make sense itself. Similarly, changing the heading to Political Satire was inappropriate as that is not what the section is about. Alphathon /'æl.f'æ.θɒn/ 19:23, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Jaume Vicens i Vives
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Jaume Vicens i Vives requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Misplaced Pages:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}
) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Bihco (talk) 17:24, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Palestinian cause article
Hi. An article you've edited, Palestinian cause was recently cut back to a stub and then redirected, in these two edits, which I've now reverted. The article needs development and additional cites, but if the editor who made those edits thinks it has no value, and is improper for Misplaced Pages, then he needs to take it to AfD rather than effecting a unilateral deletion with a redirect, in my opinion. Since it's a new article, and has been edited by only a few contributors so far, I've posted this identical message to each of their talk pages, including that of the editor who made these two edits. Please note the talk-page warning that this article is under ARBPIA restrictions, including the restriction that no editor may make more than one revert in a 24-hour period. – OhioStandard (talk) 17:09, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

Linguistic prescription
I don't want to just revert you again, but what you have done there doesn't make any sense. It is not just that the quote tag produced a surreal result. My objection to the quote template was not that it appeared in a footnote, but that it should only be used for highlighting a particularly important quote in the middle of a paragraph of text - which COULD sometimes occur in a footnote, but doesn't here. But quite apart from the quote template, your quote itself doesn't make sense. A quote has to illustrate what is being said, and it should be obvious to the reader what you want to communicate by quoting it. This is just a fragment of something - looks like a section heading - which doesn't seem to me to add anything to anybody's understanding, and I can't see why it is there at all. If all you want is a reference for the information in the text, you should stop at the page number. If you want to add a quote which tells us something, you have to give enough context that the reader has some benefit from it. At present your quote just says "Contrasting terms in linguistics", which makes no sense. Which terms is it that you want to show us are contrasting? Which terms does the source say are contrasting? What is it all about? Apart from that, the word "quotation" should not appear here. Just quote marks are enough. As for the entry heading "Descriptivism and prescriptivism", this should come before the page number, and the words "entry for" are then not required. Please fix this quickly, or if you are unsure, put an explanation here of what you want to achieve. Otherwise I will revert again. --Doric Loon (talk) 11:24, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

Personal attacks at AfD
Hello, SummerWithMorons. You recently made a personal attack against me and other editors here. Comments like, 'It is clear that those (kids, apparently) proposing the deletion have no idea of what their talking about; neither about this topic or "continental philosophy" in general' and 'If the boys want further "elaboration" to be educated on things they don't know, they should do their homeworks or waste their own time' are perfectly clear violations of WP:NPA. I have thus removed them from the AfD, and will certainly escalate matters if you revert me and restore the personal attacks. I'm actually doing you a favor by removing them, since they don't make you look good and they definitely don't help your case at the AfD. NB, it's fairly amusing that you would suggest that I don't know what I'm talking about and make a spelling mistake ("their" doesn't mean the same thing as "they are"...) in the same sentence. (See our mutual reverts of the lead section).I would especially appreciate your opinion. Perhaps you will see in his argument something I am missing - perhaps in trying to write one article on this whole subject in one go I was always being a bit ambitious. --Soundofmusicals (talk) 13:25, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Centre de recherche sur l'imaginaire
The article Centre de recherche sur l'imaginaire has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- No claim to notability, not even through references (single ref is a self-ref)
While all contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hello. Just letting you know that this disambiguation page, which you created, has been nominated for cleanup - can you help? The reason given is:
are any but the badminton player valid links, per MOS:DABRL and MOS:DABMENTION? Disambiguation pages should be indexes of Misplaced Pages articles, not lists of potentially notable people. Seems, at very least, clear primary.

Not a "Black Power salute"
In August 2008 you pointed out that the wiki article 1968 Olympics Black Power salute that the article was incorrectly attributed to Black Power and that the article should be renamed. Re. Article, "TV format"
Before you, we had, "In 2009 the article was moved from 'TV program format' to 'Program format', with rationale 'Changed to more accurate terminology.'"
Then, "It seems the most common term is 'TV format,' so I'm retitling/moving the article to that.--Sum (talk) 10:53, 27 September 2010 (UTC)"
I wish you had left the title alone, since IMHO, either of the two previous titles was more appropriate for the content of this particular article, since it does indeed discuss *program* formats.
When I searched "TV formats," I was looking for an overview article listing the various TV formats world-wide, i.e., NTSC, PAL, SECOM, to see if there are any others besides these. Although the formats I list each have their own articles, there appears to be none addressing the big picture, as it were, and I'm not well-versed in the technologies to write one myself.

Template:Positivism
Hello. I have just edited again a template you created. Incidentally, I still believe that the 'contributions' and 'related concepts' parts feature original research. For example the book "Contingency, Irony, and Solidarity" is a critique of ontological realism (in particular) and analytic philosophy (in general); I doubt that the book even ever mentions positivism once. Ontological realists actually oppose positivists (see Mario Bunge's Treatise on Basic Philosophy: VII, Part II), and equating analytic philosophy with positivism is highly misleading. Also, listing capitalism as a related concept/subject is also misleading and borderline original research. Liberal/capitalist theory existed way before the emergence of positivism and only some subschools of continental neoclassical economy were eventually directly affected by positivism. It might be the case that you are confusing scientism with positivism. Finally, calling Popper a reformer of positivism is debatable; while, I personally agree with the assessment, I believe that this claim should be reliably sourced. In general, many "post-positivists" are not "reformers of positivism"; they may actually be analytically-trained opponents of positivist-influenced philosophy (for example, this is the case with Kuhn who has also been labeled as a post-positivist). --Omnipaedista (talk) 17:46, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

Epoxy
I don't have a problem with the concept or the reference so much as placement. The concept is too obscure to insert without explaination and the explaination is too extensive for the opening paragraph, which has to simply be about what stand-up comedy is. Speedy deletion nomination of Bradley J. Macdonald
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Bradley J. Macdonald requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. 1Potato2Potato3Potato4 (talk) 16:38, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
