Global Strategy Group Advocacy campaigns section

Hello, I work at the political consulting firm Global Strategy Group. This WikiProject is listed at the top of the GSG Talk page, so I thought it might be a good place to find an independent editor to review an edit request I placed in early March. In my request, which you can view here, I'm proposing an Advocacy campaigns section that details GSG's work on social and political issues like gun safety, abortion access, and criminal justice reform. This aspect of the firm's business has been covered pretty extensively in the press, but it's not mentioned in the article at all. So I'm trying to fix that.

I've struggled to find editors to field this request, so I would be deeply appreciative if someone takes a look, even if it's just to give constructive criticism. Thank you! ES at Global Strategy Group (talk) 20:40, 12 April 2024 (UTC)

History of New England

This might be a good entry for the Core Contest for anyone in a better position to improve it. Not technically a vital article, but obviously important enough to where the judges would most likely allow it. It has several orange tags, and the C-Class assessment is likely higher than it should be. (edit: I demoted it to Start-Class) It is also a very important article, with New England  4 being a Level-4 Vital Article. Figured I would drop this here, since I do not have the resources to improve it and would not know where to start. QuicoleJR (talk) 17:10, 26 April 2024 (UTC)

Proposing creation of a Jewish American task force

Hello there. I had this idea of creating a Jewish American task force specifically for Jewish American cultures and communities. There really isn't any WikiProject specifically on it and given that America has the largest Jewish population in the world I think it would be prudent there be a task force focusing on them. Omnis Scientia (talk) 12:39, 25 May 2024 (UTC)

So I found a active taskforce page Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Jewish-Americans. I think it can be improved. @OwenBlacker, in the talk page here you mentioned there is a way to make banner and add the parameters |Jewish-Americans=yes and |Jewish-Americans-importance= to {{WikiProject United States}}. If you can explain to me how, I would love to help out there. Omnis Scientia (talk) 19:28, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

Sentient (intelligence analysis system) - expanded this article substantially, what now?

Hello, can I ask please if the members of this project can go to the talk page of this article I've been expanding and review it? It is still listed as a Stub on the Talk page and I'm still not quite sure on the Project-type and back-end work necessary here.

This is the article:

I had expanded it from 2606 bytes long on January 1, 2024 to now 30,669 bytes long as of June 6, 2024. I updated a variety of related/connected pages as well.

I'm not quite sure what to do next and still have a variety of sources to still go through, but I may be running out of usable collateral (TBD, what I think I have left is here).

What's next? Refinement? Misplaced Pages:Good articles? I would definitely welcome some help on Talk:Sentient_(intelligence_analysis_system). Thanks all. -- Very Polite Person (talk) 18:57, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

I have been noticing an enormous amount of grammar mistakes on pages such as South Sudanese Americans. Requesting assistance editing Ohio State University protest article.

I recently created an article detailing the college protests at Ohio State University. After this article was made extended-protected, I lost my ability to edit the article because I do not have EP permissions. Substantial details are missing from this article, so until I regain my permissions, I have been adding suggestions to the talk page of this article. But no one has been implementing my suggestions on the talk page, despite the fact they are supported by multiple sources and add significant missing details from the article.

If members of this community could please visit the talk page of this article and implement my requested changes, this would be deeply appreciated. Thank you! Onlineone22 (talk) 19:18, 20 June 2024 (UTC)

Preferred Format for a City's Demographics Section?

I've made a Python script which uses the Census API and writes a demographics section based on the most recent American Community Survey that I'm planning on releasing once I clean up the code a bunch and comment it some more. I figured it'd be a good idea to have some degree of support on what these updated sections should look like, before I just start editing them en masse.

The first draft of formatting can be found for a medium sized city (New London, Connecticut), a large city (Los Angeles) page and a small city (Marfa, Texas).

One kinda important question is whether it's a virtue or a vice that the ACS updates every year? Would it be better to use Census data, either partially or solely?

A general question I have about this is what information should be included that wasn't, and what information should I get rid of that is included? Another general question is how can I make the wording/ordering better?

Some nittier-grittier questions:

  1. For the population/housing density citation (the one beginning with "to calculate the density"), should that be a note instead of a reference? Also, should it include the actual square mile figure from the Gazetteer file, or just point the reader in the direction where the actual figure can be found (which is what it does now)?
  2. Some of the race names are fairly verbose, is that fine?
    • The ACS data for ancestry had a row for "French (excluding Basque)" which baffled me. I took it to mean simply French American excluding French Canadian American, was this right?
  3. Should "some other race" be included in the sort (it is in the current version), or should it be after all the named races, but before "two or more races"?
  4. Should any elements of the 2nd paragraph first sentence be sorted (or broken up into more than one sentence)?
  5. Is 0.5% a good cut-off for including ancestry (I only include an ancestry if at least 0.5% identified as it). In the same vein, is 0.1% a good cut-off for race?
    • Is there a good way for it to be clear that "other" doesn't refer to races that weren't included because of this cut-off (e.g. in the Marfa one, it seems that a reader could conceivably think that other is referring to African Americans or Native Americans)?

GrapesRock (talk) 21:36, 17 June 2024 (UTC)

John H. Smythe

has his name given as John Henry Smyth by the State Department and Google thinks he's the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for the name vs the British parliamentary backbencher we have parked at John Henry Smyth now. This was an ambassador to Liberia who was one of State's higher posted blacks/BIPOCs during Reconstruction so it's kind of obnoxious if we're getting his name badly wrong and putting a less important Brit over his namespace. Anyone able to look it up and figure out which one is correct? or, if both are, which one we should be using? — LlywelynII 10:40, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

An apparently prolonged problem with the welcome center article

As evidenced by talk page threads on this subject going back to at least 2018 (which as of this writing was nearly six years ago), there is an issue with certain welcome centers that are listed as being located at an exit that doesn’t exist. I cite two examples in West Virginia, one was listed as “exit” 10 on I-64 eastbound, when the closest exits are exit 8 and exit 11, so the correct terminology would be “mile marker” or “milepost” 10. The other is on I-68 westbound on the first turn off after crossing out of Maryland, it is supposedly located at exit 31, only again, that exit doesn’t exist. The first actual signed exit you encounter going westbound after entering West Virginia is exit 29. Again, it needs to be written as “mile marker” or “milepost”, not “exit”, unless it is signed as an exit (some states do but not all of them, you can probably confirm that on Street View). I corrected those two errors. But someone needs to go and check every single entry on that list and then make sure that the exit actually exists; and if it doesn’t, replace with “mile marker” or the like. Because I imagine those aren’t the only two errors there are in that article. West Virginia WXeditor (talk) 03:23, 22 July 2024 (UTC)

Recent contributions to African-American history

Hey, just wanted to point people to African-American history, where an IP user has recently made an eyepopping number of contributions, including seemingly several copyvios and a general reshaping what is already a very long and mature article to their particular paradigm. I've undone them for now, but I wanted to make others aware. Remsense ‥  23:13, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

Women in Green's October 2024 edit-a-thon

Hello WikiProject United States:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2024!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2024, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!

Colorado Gang Takeover

Alright, so it’s still a little blurry about what’s going on but there are RS(?) reporting that gangs have taken over 1-3 apartments in Colorado. I think this deserves an article but I think there is a problem with how the MSM is reporting these events, with conflicting accounts and some downplaying the severity. Below are the sources I’ve found that discuss the situation. Any assistance with expanding or clarifying this topic would be appreciated. I think this needs its own article. References:

WP:NYPOST and WP:FOXNEWSPOLITICS are not RS. RS refute the story. Exclude. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:16, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
I think the only way to ensure this subject is worth an article in Misplaced Pages is to ensure NPOV to prevent it become a space for editing wars and political arguments. Though I think national new agencies can be good sources, these two have major political bias. I also think you have to look at local sources for RS.
  1. https://www.denver7.com/news/local-news/tenants-at-troubled-aurora-apartments-speak-out-against-venezuelan-gang-rumors
  2. https://kdvr.com/news/local/aurora-pd-gang-members-have-not-taken-over-aurora-apartment-complex/
Due to the heavy political bias, I would advise waiting for facts to sort their way through our overly biased news organizations. But if you feel you need to wrie it, I would advise you mark it with controversial tags that are available at Misplaced Pages:Controversial articles. Demt1298 (talk) 01:29, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
I found another article that a simpler thing is happening in Texas. Tren de Aragua has spread from their Colorado takeover to El Paso Article. I know NY Post is not the most reliable but it’s better than Fox. Here are better local news sources: 1 2 LuxembourgLover (talk) 17:17, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

Can Misplaced Pages stop using the term "Asian and Pacific Islander" for the demographics sections of places in the U.S.?

Most pages about cities, counties, and other communities in the U.S. has a table showing the demographics of the city, listing the percentage of people that identify as "Non-Hispanic White", "Black", "Hispanic or Latino", etc. Most tables use the term "Asian", while the tables on some pages like Cleveland or Hollywood, Florida say "Asian and Pacific Islander". The census hasn't used the term "Asian and Pacific Islander" in over two decades. As a person of Vietnamese descent I feel uncomfortable with the term because it groups together many different people that are culturally and phenotypically distinct. I don't feel any connection to Pacific Islanders. When I edit the term to just say Asian my edits get reverted back.

Can the term "Asian" or "Asian American" be used in the demographics section for all pages about places in the U.S instead of "Asian and Pacific Islander"? This is all I want to change. JohnIllinois1827 (talk) 19:11, 17 September 2024 (UTC)

American Writers is the first history of US literature and I have nominated the article for FAC. The nomination has been up about a month and has thus far passed an image review and received support from two reviewers. Activity on the nomination has died down, putting it in danger of getting archived, though all reviewers so far consider the article fit for featured status.
