Ronald Torbert is an American football official in the National Football League (NFL) since the 2010 NFL season. He wears uniform number 62, worn previously by line judge Chuck Stewart, side judge DuWayne Gandy and umpire Gerry Hart.
A graduate of Michigan State University, Torbert began his NFL officiating career in 2010 as a side judge, then became a referee for the 2014 NFL season after Scott Green and Ron Winter announced their retirements. Torbert is one of only six African-American referees in NFL history, after Johnny Grier, Mike Carey, Jerome Boger and Don Carey, and preceding Shawn Smith, who was promoted from umpire to referee in 2018.
Torbert's 2019 NFL officiating crew consists of umpire Terry Killens, down judge Sarah Thomas, line judge Mark Steinkerchner, field judge Ryan Dickson, side judge Scott Edwards, back judge Tony Josselyn, replay official Earnie Frantz, and replay assistant Buddy Horton.
Ron was the alternate referee for Super Bowl LIII. He is also featured in the NFL 100 year anniversary video that aired during the same Super Bowl.
Outside of his NFL officiating duties, Torbert is an attorney, like fellow referee Clete Blakeman.
