• 4 January – A decree is passed amending petroleum law.

• 1 February – The Universidad de Medellín is founded.

• 17 March – 1950 Campeonato Profesional: The División Mayor del Fútbol Profesional Colombiano (DIMAYOR) announces that all teams in the tournament must wear jersey numbers and follow the predetermined times for matches from now on.

1. Gómez would step down in 1951 due to health concerns, leaving Roberto Urdaneta Arbeláez as acting president until the 1953 coup.
2. The Office of the Vice President was officially abolished by the 1905 National Constituent Assembly on 28 March 1905, and it was only reinstituted after the ratification of the new 1991 Constitution and filled in the following presidential election of 1994.
