The 1998 South Carolina Gamecocks football team represented the University of South Carolina in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) during the 1998 NCAA Division I-A football season. The Gamecocks were led by head coach Brad Scott, in his fifth and final season, and played their home games in Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina.
In 1998, South Carolina went 1–10, the worst record in program history until then. The loss to No. 13 Georgia began a 21-game losing streak for the Gamecocks, which would not be snapped until 2000. Scott was fired following the end of the season, but was quickly hired as an assistant coach by Clemson. Lou Holtz was subsequently hired as South Carolina's new head coach, having been an assistant for the Gamecocks in the 1960s.
