General elections were held in the U.S. Virgin Islands on 7 November 2006 in order to elect the goverbor, 15 members of the Legislature and the delegate to United States House of Representatives. Incumbent Democratic governor Charles Wesley Turnbull was term-limited and couldn't run for re-election to a third term in office. John de Jongh failed to win in the first round by just 2 votes, since no candidate received a majority in the general election, as required by the Revised Organic Act of the Virgin Islands, a runoff was held between John de Jongh and Kenneth Mapp, the two top vote getters.
