The team was led by fourth-year head coach Scott Frost and played its games at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska. The 2021 Nebraska Cornhuskers were the first team in Division I history to lose nine games by single digits.

  1. Nebraska and Illinois were originally scheduled to play at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland for the Aer Lingus College Football Classic. The game was moved back to the United States due to travel concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic.
