Alexander Germanovich Preis (Russian : Алекса́ндр Ге́рманович Прейс; 1905–1942) was a Soviet writer of numerous plays and libretti, including those for Shostakovich 's operas The Nose and Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District .
