Janice Mofus (born February 11, 2000), better known by the stage name Baby Storme is an American alternative pop singer and internet personality, known for her presence on the video-sharing platform TikTok.

Career

In January 2021, Storme's single, "Jackson", went viral after receiving praise from Lil Nas X on TikTok. In February 2021, in reaction to the release of her track, "everybody knows", Earmilk wrote, "Storme is able to define true-to-genre R&B while still exploring unconventional and uncomfortable topics." In March 2023, Billboard wrote of her song, "Painkillers", "the track's sparse instrumentals — gossamer-like synth, thumping beats and delicate piano — complements her soft vocal delivery." In April 2023, Storme released "Alt Disco", which Swidlife praised for its risk-taking and unexpected melding of genres.

Public image

In March 2022, a video of Storme describing discrimination she faced at Citibank, when attempting to cash a $30,000 check, attracted over 33 million views.

In June 2023, Storme faced criticism from some fans for filming a music video for her track "This City Is a Graveyard" in a real graveyard. Storme validated fans' concerns but stated she filmed the video as respectfully as she could. She also pointed out that many other musical artists filmed in real graveyards and did not face the same level of backlash.

In August 2023, Storme criticized a Target employee for calling the police on her group of friends before they performed a flash mob to Storme's song in the store. She claimed this was due to racial discrimination against her. Her statements led to a widespread online response, accusing the singer of overreacting.

On May 3, 2024, Storme claimed that she was a former friend of fellow rapper Ice Spice, and had leaked numerous text messages between the two; which included messages of Ice Spice speaking negatively of former collaborator Nicki Minaj, as well as her own mother. Ice Spice subsequently confirmed the messages in a Rolling Stone interview 2 months later, but believed the people she mentioned "did not care" Storme later came out admitting that she regretted leaking their exchange and claimed she may have had a schizophrenic episode during that time.

Personal life

In December 2020, Storme considered suicide, following the end of a toxic relationship.

In July 2024; Storme announced that she was expecting her first child. 3 months later; Storme had revealed the baby passed away after complications from an unexpected premature birth.
