History

Belstead House has a storied past dating back to the 17th-century. Originally built as a private manor, it later served as a girls' school and subsequently as an adult education centre. It was bought by Major Quilter in 1901 and until 1920 it was known as Hill House and lay at the centre of a 102 acre farm. Over the course of its long history, the house has maintained a strong emphasis on fostering learning, creativity, and community. Today, the house continues this tradition, repurposed as a dynamic venue for workshops, retreats, training seminars, in addition to community and cultural events. Recognised as a Grade II listed building by English Heritage, Belstead House honours its heritage by integrating its historic architecture with modern amenities that cater to contemporary needs.
