The national emblem of the North Ossetian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was adopted in 1940 by the government of the North Ossetian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. The emblem is identical to the emblem of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic.

First version
The emblem was described in the 1940 Constitution of the North Ossetian ASSR.
The state emblem of the North Ossetian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic is the state emblem of the RSFSR, which consists of an image of a gold sickle and a hammer, placed cross on the cross, with handles downwards, on a red background in the sun and framed with ears, and the inscription "РСФСР" and "Proletarians of all countries, unite!" in Russian and Ossetian languages, (РСФСР / УСФСР) (ӔППӔТ БӔСТӔТЫ ПРОЛЕТАРТӔ БАИУ УТ!) With the addition of the inscription "Северо-Осетинская АССР (ЦЕГАТ-ИРЫСТОНЫ АССР)" in Russian and Ossetians under the inscription "РСФСР"

In 1978 the design of the coat of arms underwent minor change. The emblem was supplemented with a star.
