The Forest, Wildlife & Environment Department is a provincial department of the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. It manages the region's forestry, wildlife and related resources through sustainable and integrated natural resource management. The department is also as a center for biodiversity and eco-tourism.

The department is led by the Chief Conservator of Forest and includes several sub-departments such as Forest, Parks & Wildlife.

Geography of GB

The total geographical area of Gilgit-Baltistan is 7.04 million hectares. The region is primarily composed of mountains (34%) and natural rangelands (46%), with natural forests covering 3.58% of the area. The remaining 10% consists of cultivated agricultural lands, farm forests, cultivable waste and uncultivated waste.

Biodiversity

Gilgit-Baltistan boasts a rich variety of plant and animal life due to its wide range of altitudes and associated variations in climate, soil conditions and exposure to sunlight.
