Hikkaduwa Urban Council (HUC) is a local authority established in 2000 in the Galle District, Southern Province, Sri Lanka covering the town of Hikkaduwa itself, plus 8 villages, on a total surface of 12.83 square kilometers and 27 GN Divisions.
Description
Hikkaduwa Urban Council jurisdiction extends along the coastal zone for about 06 km, and the inland area is about 03 km.
The 11 constituencies of Hikkaduwa Urban Council :
- are 3 constituencies for the town of Hikkaduwa itself (composed of 8 GN Divisions)
- and 8 constituencies for 8 villages (composed of 19 GN Divisions)
The urban area is the town of Hikkaduwa. The 8 villages are Dodanduwa, Patuwatha, Thiranagama, Wewala, Pikanda, Nalagasdeniya, Kumarakanda and Handaudumulla.
Mission
The Hikkaduwa Urban Council is responsible for providing a variety of local public services including roads, sanitation, drains, housing, libraries, public parks and recreational facilities. It has 11 councillors elected using an open list proportional representation system.
