Honora Fields is a newly designated suburb in the Cardinia Shire, Victoria, Australia. It was officially established in December 2024 as part of the Pakenham East Precinct Structure Plan, which aims to address the housing and infrastructure needs of Melbourne's rapidly growing outer eastern suburbs.
Location
Honora Fields is located southeast of Melbourne's central business district (CBD), approximately 55 kilometres (34 mi) from the city centre. It is situated between the existing suburbs of Pakenham, Nar Nar Goon, and Nar Nar Goon North. The suburb forms part of the Pakenham East Precinct Structure Plan, which will deliver around 7,000 new homes and supporting infrastructure.
History
The suburb is named after Honora Carney, a prominent early settler in the area. The Carney family established a farming business in 1869, with Honora continuing its management after the death of her husband, Michael, in 1880. Honora expanded the family's holdings and operated the farm with her children until her death in 1912.
Name
The naming process for Honora Fields included community consultation, during which the name "Honora" received the most votes. To comply with naming conventions set by Geographic Names Victoria, the suffix "Fields" was added to reflect the area's agricultural heritage.
