Kat Mon Dieu (born Julie Snyder, January 3, 1963) is a Marilyn Monroe tribute artist, neo-classical burlesque dancer, pin-up model, art school model, actress, producer, performance artist and writer based in New York. She was the producer of Dark Carnival Burlesque, a monthly show featuring a combination of burlesque and variety acts. Kat also was a freelance blogger for Dr Sketchy's Anti-Art School.

Biography and stage career

Kat Mon Dieu was born Julie Snyder in Rochester, New York in 1963.

Kat began her burlesque and stage career in 1980 when she performed as "Magenta" in the shadow cast at the Rocky Horror Picture Show, then went on to do Marilyn Monroe tributes at Backstreets, a drag bar in Rochester NY.

Kat moved to Manhattan NY in 1986 and worked as an art model at the Art Students League and street busker with a South American musical group, "Antara del Barrio." She took a hiatus from performing to raise her children and get her bachelors degree in Nursing.

In 2005 Kat resumed modeling, which led her to the neo-burlesque scene where she is known as "The Gal with Nine Lives and a Thousand Disguises." She's performed at the Coney Island Mermaid Parade, at the C.I. Gala at Webster Hall and on the Sideshow stage at Coney Island USA. In 2011 she was picked by Bambi the Mermaid to compete with 11 others for the title of "Miss Coney Island". She is notorious for diving into the seal pool at the New York Aquarium during a performance, while performing as Marilyn.

2011-19 Kat produced a monthly burlesque and variety show Dark Carnival Burlesque with Gothic Hangman as MC. She was a regular in various neo-burlesque shows at the time, including Nurse Bettie, Shaken and Stirred, Velocity Chyallds !BadAss¡ , Coney Islands "This or That", Raven Snooks "Hot Mama Burlesque" and Cynthia von Buhler's Speakeasy Dollhouse series of immersive theater (The Bloody Beginning, Ziegfeld Midnight Frolic, Jägermeister 100 year Anniversary Event and The Illuminati Ball)

Kat created and built wearable art, masks and headdresses for individual performers as well as various theater productions (eg: The Illuminati Ball).

She wrote as a freelance art session blogger and modeled for Dr Sketchy's Anti-Art School in New York City.

Kat bought a 35' retired schoolbus and turned it into a tiny home on wheels, also known as a "Skoolie."

Kat is taking a sabbatical from the stage, but is working on her book chronicling the three years she lived full-time in her converted schoolbus "Brigantia" as a performance artist in NYC.
