Madhab Chandra Das College, or M.C.D. College or M.C.Das College or Sonai College, was founded by Alhaj Tajamul Ali Mazumdar(or T. A. Mazumdar or Potol Mazumdar), in 1972. It is situated in Sonai Constituency or the Sonai sub-division, a rural area in the Cachar district of Assam, India. The first piece of land was donated by a local landowner after much persuasion by the founder. It was donated on condition that the college be named after the donor. The college was first affiliated to Gauhati University then to Assam University till 2022 and affiliated to G. C. University from 2023 onwards. It has Arts apart from Science and Commerce degree courses. It has acquired B grades from NAAC in two cycles/assessments....
Principals
- T. A.Mazumdar M.A. (Political Science) (1972–2009). He has been conferred the Sahidul Alom Choudhury Memorial Award in Dispur on 28.04.2019. It is considered the highest award for any distinguished Muslim minority in Assam, particularly from the Barak valley. He & his wife have also been the founders of the first English school of Sonai named Holy Light English School. Gulezar Ali School of Sonai has also been founded by him for which he donated his own land and named it after one of his elder brothers. S. C. Girls School of Sonai and numerous other schools in Sonai have been founded, patroned or guided by him. He has also been a member in the state school board.

The college is 16 km away from Silchar town. It received 2(f) 12(b) status from UGC. Most of the students belong either to SC Hindu section or are Muslims. Many of them are Manipuris. The college is still under the supervision and guidance of its founder principal Alhaj T. A. Mazumdar. He has been the GB President for two terms, that is, ten years.
Assets of the college:
The college has a growing central library with department libraries.
There is proper alternative electricity provision at times of loadshedding as the area is prone to frequent power outages.
The college has a Girls Common Room, a Smart room, an Auditorium, two separate rooms for NCC boys & girls, a cycle/bike shed. an IQAC room, constant tea/coffee facility for staff and visitors, labs for science subjects, a smart room, etc.
The college has its own students magazine named "Prantashree." The Research and Publication Cell is soon going to take out its first book of articles named as "Papyrus" with an ISBN.
