According to Variety "The tv adaptation wrapped up the sentiment in a tunefully sparkling package that carried the good humor over the full two hours. If the play sagged dramatically in spots, it was only for a moment and then was rolling on the tracks again."

The show was a ratings success with an average share of 32.
