Melanophryniscus simplex is a species of toads in the family Bufonidae.
It is endemic to Brazil. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical high-altitude grassland, rivers, intermittent freshwater lakes, and freshwater marshes. It is threatened by habitat loss.
