Michael B. Wunderman is an American entrepreneur and filmmaker based in Los Angeles. He is also a partial owner of the luxury watch brand Corum.
Biography
Wunderman was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He is the son of the late Severin Wunderman, who owned the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer Corum. Severin Wunderman, an art collector and philanthropist, fled Belgium with his family during World War II. and moved to the United States as a child. In 1972, he acquired the license to distribute and manufacture Gucci watches.
Wunderman began his career in the luxury watch industry in the mid-1990s, joining Gucci Timepieces in the sales and marketing division. He eventually became the General Manager of Gucci Timepieces in the United Kingdom.
Following the sale of the Gucci license in 1997, Wunderman transitioned out of the watch industry. He became involved in the acquisition and marketing of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf chain and also founded a multimedia marketing company, Wunder Entertainment.
Wunderman returned to the watchmaking business in 2000 after his father acquired Corum. He served as the company’s president from 2004 until its sale in 2013.
After leaving Corum, Wunderman turned his focus to filmmaking and real estate. His real estate company was developing a home in the prestigious Trousdale Estates neighborhood of Beverly Hills, with a scheduled completion date of June 2015.
Wunderman is also a board member of the Next Generation Council of the Shoah Foundation.
Corum
Following the Wundermans’ purchase of Corum, Severin and Michael Wunderman introduced twelve new models for the 2000 Basel Watch Fair. The Bubble watch, with its domed sapphire crystal face, has been described as an icon of the Corum brand.
In 2013, Wunderman sold the company to China Haidian Group, becoming a part owner of Haidian as part of the transaction.
Filmmaking
Wunderman was the executive producer of Atlas Independent's comedy-drama, Revenge for Jolly!, which premiered at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival. The film was distributed in North America by Sony Pictures.
He also produced Open Grave with Atlas Independent. This film, directed by Gonzalo López-Gallego, was released in the United States in 2014.
