Musical artist

Natalie Marie Murray (née, LaRue; December 28, 1983, December 4, 2015) was an American singer and songwriter from Nashville, Tennessee. She rose to prominence as part of the band LaRue, a sibling duo with her brother Phillip LaRue, releasing four studio albums. In addition to her work with LaRue, Murray also pursued a solo career, releasing the EP Even Now in 2012.

Early life

Natalie LaRue was born to Paul William LaRue and Carolynn Marie LaRue (née, Nesbitt). She grew up in a musical household in Nashville, Tennessee, alongside her older brother Phillip and two younger twin sisters. Murray’s musical journey began early, participating in church choirs as a child. By the age of 11, she and her brother Phillip co-wrote their first song, setting the foundation for their future career as a duo.

Career

When she was 14, she and Phillip were signed as a duo to Reunion Records under the Provident Music Group. Their debut album, LaRue, was released in 2000 and contained 11 original tracks they had co-written.

In 2001, the siblings released a second album of their songs, Transparent. The songs had new themes and a rock-influenced sound, from the alternative/pop "Jaded" about changing relationships, to the electro ballad "Fallen For You" being a love song, to "Brianna's Song" written about their sister who had cerebral palsy.

In 2002, they released their third album, Reaching. Songs like "OK to Cry", about grieving amidst hope and "Summertime", about longing for a soul mate as well as addressing teen issues.

Personal life

In 2003, Natalie LaRue married Rob Murray, a performer from South Africa whom she had met at a music festival the previous year. That same year, they welcomed their first son, Noah, followed by three daughters: Ella, Viola, and Adia. Also in 2003, Natalie and her brother Phillip ended their musical partnership, bringing their collaboration as the band LaRue to a close.

Return to music

In 2012, after several years as a full-time parent, Natalie recorded and released the EP Even Now, produced by Don Chaffer from Waterdeep.
