The National Service of Natural Protected Areas by the State (SERNANP) is a specialized technical public agency of the Peruvian State, under the Ministry of the Environment of Peru, responsible for directing and establishing the technical and administrative criteria for the conservation of Peru's Natural Protected Areas (Sistema Nacional de Áreas Naturales Protegidas por el Estado – SINANPE). SERNANP was created on 13 May 2008, replacing the former National Institute of Natural Resources - INRENA, founded on 27 November 1992 as an agency under the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation.
