Persona 2, also marketed as Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2, is a duology of role-playing video games developed and published by Atlus for the PlayStation. It consists of Persona 2: Innocent Sin which released in 1999 exclusively in Japan, and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment in 2000. Being the second and third in the Persona series, which is a spin-off of the Megami Tensei franchise. It is the only title in the franchise to have a mainline sequel.
Innocent Sin follows a group of students from Seven Sisters High School who gains a persona before meeting Joker, a mysterious figure who causes reality to warp based on the spread of rumors in Sumaru City, and holds a grudge against the students for a sin that they are unaware of. In Eternal Punishment, set a few months after Innocent Sin, it focuses on Maya Amano, a reporter who would investigate the Joker Curse, where people's wishes and rumors would cause wishes to come true and cause chaos. Both games features turn-based battle gameplay, where characters use their Personas in battle against demons, and a separate Rumor system, where rumors spread around the city can influence events in the characters' favor.
