Prozis is a Portugal-based online brand under the Prozis group, specializing in sports nutrition. The company operates out of its main headquarters in Maia, which also houses its research and development center. Founded in 2007 by Miguel Milhão, Prozis operates globally, emphasizing innovation, sustainability, and a commitment to empower its customers to "exceed themselves."
History
The company began as an online platform focused on bringing sports nutrition of world-wide known brands to the Portuguese market in a fast and safe way but quickly expanded its portfolio to include their own proprietary supplements, activewear, functional foods, and innovative technological solutions.
In 2015, it employed over 230 people and had a revenue of more than 45 million euros. By 2016, it was one of the biggest sports nutrition online stores in Europe, with over 800,000 registered and active customers across more than 100 markets.
In its early years, Prozis emphasized community building. This approach was supported by its active social media presence, collaborations with influencers, and sponsorship of events that aligned with its brand ethos.
However, as the company grew, it pivoted toward a quality-centric model. This shift was accompanied by investments in state-of-the-art facilities, quality control measures, and proprietary technologies to ensure excellence in every aspect of production.
Prozis adopted a vertically integrated approach, controlling all aspects of its production chain—from concept and design to manufacturing (in Europe) and distribution. This allowed the company to maintain high standards of quality while keeping prices competitive.
In recent years, Prozis has prioritized expanding its footprint beyond Europe, particularly the United States. A significant milestone was the announcement, in 2024, of a €20 million production facility in South Carolina, aimed at localizing operations and serving the North American market more efficiently.
Prozis was one of the brands that received, in Portugal, the "Escolha do Consumidor 2016" (Consumer's Choice) award in the area of health and well-being, more specifically in the category "Sports Supplements", and again in 2020. For its success in exports, Prozis was also awarded the "Prémio Exportadora Revelação" (Exports Revelation Award), destined to distinguish and promote the success of companies that strive for export and international business. This prize was an initiative of Novobanco and Jornal de Negócios in a partnership with IGNIOS, who together created the 2016 edition of the Export and Internationalisation awards
Corporate Culture
Prozis is renowned for its eccentric and creative workplace environment. Its headquarters features unique elements, including two dwarf goats, real life size statues of famous pop culture characters displayed throughout their multiple offices, and motivational messages written all over the office, as shown by multiple videos made by Prozis’ influencers and news.
Current Operations & Marketing
Prozis products are sold directly to customers in 120 countries via websites in 6 languages and in large supermarket chains (like Continente in Portugal). The company employs around 1500 people globally.
In 2022, Prozis has an estimated annual revenue of $345.5M.
While Prozis keeps its official social media pages streamlined, it relies heavily on a robust network of influencers. With a focus on Europe, the company partners with athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and lifestyle influencers, creating a strong presence in local markets. It’s massive army of influencers has earned them the title of most tagged brand on social media in 2021 in Portugal and again in 2024, this time in Germany.
