Ruslana Panchyshyna (born 10 September 2005), known mononymously as Ruslana (stylized in all caps), is a Spanish-Ukrainian singer and songwriter who rose to prominence after placing third in the twelfth edition of the Operación Triunfo contest.

From an early age, she participated in various musical competitions, including several preselections for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Belarus and La Voz Kids in 2019.

Early life

Ruslana Panchyshyna was born on 10 September 2005 in Ukraine, but a few years later she moved to Adeje, Canary Islands. She also has Belarusian ancestry.

Musical career

2016–2023: Early career

At the age of 11, Panchyshyna participated in New Wave Junior 2016, a children's edition of the New Wave competition, in Gurzuf, Crimea, representing Belarus.11 The following year, she placed fourth in the Belarusian preselection for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest (2017), with the song "Tantsui so mnoy". Likewise, she participated again with the group Monkey Tops in 2019, finishing in third place with the song "Posmotri na nas". That same year, she competed in the fifth edition of La Voz Kids, joining Rosario Flores' team, but she was eliminated in the battle round, finishing in seventh position.

2023–present: Operación Triunfo 2023 and first songs

In 2023, Ruslana participated in the twelfth edition of Operación Triunfo broadcast by Amazon Prime Video, where she performed songs such as "Zombie" by The Cranberries, "Inmortal" and "Salvaje" by Nathy Peluso, some of which she managed to position in her version in the Top 200 of Spotify Spain, in addition to "SloMo", "I Put A Spell On You", "El mundo", "Let Me Out" and "Ptazeta: Bzrp Music Sessions Vol. 45", the last one entering the Top 100. Finally, she finished in third place in the contest, with Naiara as the winner and Paul Thin finishing in second place.

Following the conclusion to Operación Triunfo, Ruslana signed a contract with the Universal Music Group, and released her first single "Las chica malas desfina", exclusively for Amazon Music and available for all platforms starting 4 April 2024. The single managed to enter the top 100 of the best-selling songs in Spain, as well as enter the Top 200 of Spotify Spain and in the Top Viral Songs at #35.

On 30 May, Ruslana released her first collaboration and second single, "Me he colgado de mi ex" with Paula Koops. The song managed to be among the Top 50 Radios list in Spain at #18, as well as in the Top Viral Songs Spotify Spain at #63. Both first two releases are pop rock songs.

In addition to participating in the Operación Triunfo tour in 2024, she was confirmed to appear in festivals such as Los 40 Primavera Pop, Coca-Cola Music Experience 2024, as well as in the LOS40 Summer Live tour in 11 Spanish locations such as Cádiz, Torre del Mar, Águilas, La Manga, Santa Pola, Villena, etc. In May 2024, "Lo mejor de Ruslana", her first compilation album, was published, which includes all the songs she sang in Operación Triunfo along with "Las Chicas Malas Desfina", by Universal Music. On 1 July, it debuted at #4 on the Top 100 best-selling albums weekly in Spain.

On 5 July 2024, Ruslana released her second solo single "Lokademás", produced by Lalo GV and accompanied by a video clip directed by Mikel D. Etxebaria. Before its premiere, she sang the song for the first time in "Los 40 Playa Pop", introducing the song as "the euphoria the first time she felt something for a person of the same gender". The song has electronic overtones without leaving aside rock, and in the video Ruslana performs a love interest for another girl, who is played by Giulia, "one of her best friends."

On October 23rd, Ruslana announced the date of release of her first album, GÉNESIS, by an Instagram post. It is scheduled to be made public on November 15th, 2024. She has also noified about it on her webpage.

Musical style

Ruslana's music has elements of rock, R&B and soul. Her favorite groups include Måneskin and Coldplay. In addition to singing, she plays electric bass.
