Sangatta is a town located in, as well being the capital of, East Kutai Regency, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. It is however, not an autonomous city and consists of the urban sections of two districts within the regency, North Sangatta [id] (including a mainly urban community, but with the larger district containing 123,067 inhabitants in mid 2023) and South Sangatta [id] (a largely rural area with 30,760 inhabitants in mid 2023). It is the location of East Kutai coal mine, which is one of the biggest coal mines in the world, as well as the biggest in Asia.

Until being split into 4 districts on 31 October 2005, Sangatta existed as a separate district. Bengalon was also part of Sangatta (not mentioned as of 1999), but it is not exactly known when it was separated from Sangatta.
