American small press

Slough Press is an American small press publisher. They publish fiction, poetry, and essays. They also publish authors from Cajun or Chicano backgrounds.

History

Charles "Chuck" Taylor, Jr. founded Slough Press with Susan Bright in 1973, after moving to Texas from the Midwest. Taylor moved the press to El Paso when he was hired at the University of Texas at El Paso. Bright left the press at this time and later founded Plain View Press in Austin. As of 2017, Slough Press was operating out of Austin.

Writers on their roster include Ricardo Sánchez, Hedwig Gorski, and Christopher Carmona. Slough also published satirical Latino poet José Montalvo's collections Black Hat Poems (1987) and Welcome to My New World (1992).
