Super Buddies is a 2013 American superhero comedy film. It is the seventh and final installment in the Air Buddies film series, and the fourteenth and final film of the overall Air Bud franchise. It was released on August 27, 2013.

Plot

One year after the events of the previous film, Bartleby and his dog Budderball have spent the whole summer at Bartleby's Granfather Marvin "Gramps" farm. On Bartleby's 12th birthday Marvin gives him a comic book "Kid Courageous and Captain Canine issue one". Which is a comic that explains the origin of the superhero Captain Canine. The story talks about the assumed fictional planet of Inspiron and how it was peaceful until an alien warlord known as Commander Drex invaded in an attempt to steal the Rings of Inspiron. A soldier named Captain Megasis was tasked with taking the rings to Earth where no one was despite the reluctance of the Queen of Inspiron, princess Jorala. Drex chased Megasis through space and in an ensuing fight he put the rings in a torpedo and fires it and another one at Drex's flag ship. The one with the rings intentionally misses and heads for earth while the other one hits the ship. Megasis then rams his ship into Drex's destroying both ships presumably killing Drex while Megasis escapes in an escape pod. He and the rings land somewhere on Earth.

Bartleby celebrates his birthday with his friends Alice, Sam, Billy, and Pete, while their dogs, Mudbud, Buddha, Rosebud, and B-Dawg have some fun on the farm. They find the rings of Inspiron buried in the barn. The rings float and go around their necks. They return for cake and Bartleby explains the story of Captain Canine. It goes to a flashback where Captain Megasis crashes in suburban Seattle. He shape shifts into a dog to hide from police and begins his search for the rings. He meets a kid named Jack and tells him his story. Jack begins writing comic books about it and he and Captain Megasis fight crime in honor of Jack's late father. The duo named themselves Kid Courageous and Captain Canine.

The next day Captain Canine gets the rings energy source and he and Jack who is now grown up begin tracking the rings. The pups begin to discover their powers with the rings. While at the same time Commander Drex who is still alive also gets the rings energy source. The pups talk about the their new powers at Fernfield City Hall, Rosebud has Superspeed, Mudbud has invisibility, Budderball has superstrength, B-dawg has flexibility, and Buddha has telekinesis. They conclude that the rings have given them superpowers and decide to use them for good and make Fernfield a better place.

They first rescue a cat stuck in a tree, but not before Budderball knocks the tree on to a police car with Sheriff Dan inside. Captain Canine tracks the rings to Fernfield and decides to go look for them. The buds then stop 2 robbers robbing a candy store just as Sheriff Dan arrives to arrest them and the press also arrives and the candy shop owner explains to them about how the super puppy's saved his store. Drex lands his space pod on Marvin's farm and begins searching for the rings, but not after he disguises himself as a pig. Marvin sees the pod and Drex talks introduces himself to him scaring Marvin, prompting him to call the police. Drex steals Marvin's truck and continues his search.

Dan arrives at the farm, but does not see ship as it went invisible before. Dan does not believe Marvin and leaves. The kids return to the farm and Dan tells them the situation and they decide to investigate. Dan gets a call from dispatch in which Drex crashed Marvin's truck at city hall. He leaves to take care of the situation. Dan captures and arrest Drex. Bartleby and the kids discover the pod and conclude by the comics that Drex has arrived. Meanwhile, the buds come across a house fire with a little girl trapped inside. They rescue her with help from Captain Canine.

The kids learn from the news about the buds and how they have the rings. Drex snatches Sheriff Dans body, escapes the police station and steals Dans damaged police cruiser. The kids arrive at the police station to tell sheriff Dan, but quickly discover that it's Drex and he kidnaps the kids. Dans dog Sniffer releases Dan and search for Drex.

Back at Marvin's, Captain Canine teaches the buddies how to better control and use their powers. Drex arrives at Marvin's farm with the kids, neutralizes Marvin and imprisons the kids in the barn. Drex uses his pod's weapon systems to draw a meteor towards which causes a electric storm in Fernfield. Captain Canine engages in a duel with Drex. Captain Canine gets the upper hand, but Drex electrocutes him killing him in the process. The buddies engage in a fight starting with using their powers to defend themselves from Drex's attacks. Budderball uses his strength to knock out Drex for a little while, but he recovers quickly. Drex then tries to crash a tractor on the buddies but Mudbud makes them disappear before it crashes. Drex then corners them, but Marvin uses a lightning rod to direct electricity and electrocute him. The buddies retreat into the barn. Drex blasts the door open and demands the rings to be handed over. Dan arrives to arrest Drex, but he escapes to his pod with the rings. He flies out, but the rings he got were fake ones from dog food. They cause him to lose control and crash into the meteor killing him once and for all.

The buddies use the rings to resurrect Captain Canine. Princess Jorala arrives and congratulates everyone on defeating Drex and gives Bartleby a necklace. Jorala turns captain Canine back to Megasis. They depart back for Inspiron with Drex's former assistant Monk-E. Jack makes a new comic book series with Bartleby about the super-buddies.
