Toshinosuke Takegahara is a Japanese shoe designer. He has collaborated with English shoe manufacturers George Cox, Grenson, and Tricker’s. In 2004, his shoes were inducted into the Northampton Museum and Art Gallery’s permanent collection. He was last photographed in 2007 by Kishin Shinoyama.
Biography
In 1994 he established the dress shoe brand, Toshinosuke Takegahara. In 1996 he collaborated with George Cox. In 1998 he moved to England, and in 1999 he returned to Japan, re-established his “Toshinosuke Takegahara” brand. In 2000 he launched his flagship brand, foot the coacher and took charge at NUMBER (N)INE’s shoe branch. In 2001 he collaborated with French footwear brand Paraboot. In 2002 he renamed his Toshinosuke Takegahara brand as AUTHENTIC SHOE & Co. In 2003 he released Tricker's by Toshinosuke Takegahara. In September he established the GALLERY OF AUTHENTIC showroom. In 2004 his SETTA shoes were chosen Shoe of the Month by England’s Northampton Museum and Art Gallery, and the shoes later were added to the museum’s permanent collection. He displayed works at the Dr. Martens Exhibition in 2004. In 2006 he helped produce ladies’ shoes for SHOES and THINGS and ARTS & SCIENCE] with Sonya Park. In 2007 he operated a foot the coacher shop-in-shop at Shinjuku’s Isetan. In 2009 AUTHENTIC SHOE & Co. opened its flagship shop, GALLERY OF AUTHENTIC. In 2010 his ladies’ shoe brand, BEAUTIFUL SHOES makes its debut. He worked on TAKAHIROMIYASHITATheSoloist shoes and announced <foot the coacher × NEW BALANCE> together with New Balance in 2010. In 2011 he was involved in design of Helmut Lang shoes. In 2012 he debuts a new brand, “SPECTUSSHOECO.” in Milano and Paris and announced collaboration sandals together with “Chaco.” In 2013 he debuted foot the coacher by Grenson in collaboration with the English shoe brand Grenson. He worked on “HYKE” and “SOPH.” shoes the same year. In 2014 he debuted a new shoe brand “FOOTSTOCK ORIGINALS®” in Milano, Paris, and Tokyo. In 2015 he announced “MM4” modeled after the actor Marcello Mastroianni from the Italian shoe brand “SUTORMANTELLASSI.” In 2016 he announced <MOUNTAIN RESEARCH × SPECTUSSHOECO.> together with “MOUNTAIN RESEARCH.” He worked on “UNDERCOVER” shoes the same year. In 2018 he announced <foot the coacher × inov8> together with the English trail running brand “inov8.” He worked on “ANREALAGE” shoes the same year. He announced <foot the coacher × STYLIST SHIBUTSU> together with “STYLIST SHIBUTSU” by the stylist, Koichiro Yamamoto the same year.
