Zawja Waheda La Takfi 'One Wife is Not Enough' is a Kuwaiti TV drama series, aired on MBC in the month of Ramadan 2024/1445 AH, that focuses on the marital and family relationships with a special focus on topics like marital infidelity and social relationships in the community. The series faced a lot of backlash and controversy when it aired, which resulted in the film crew being stopped from working.

Storyline

The tv series focuses around Rasheed 'Majed Almasri' family and Hayla's 'Huda Hussein' who live a perfect life with their three daughters and managing a co-ed school. The storyline starts to change when unexpected secrets are uncovered about 'Rasheed's', which shocks the family's life.

Hayla faces a lot of challenges after she discovers her husband's secrets, and finds herself having to make tough decisions about the future of her marriage and family. The series discusses several important social issues such as polygamy, infidelity, internal struggles between traditional and modern values.

Criticism

The series caused a lot of controversy in Kuwait and the Arab World since it launched, because some considered it an insult for the Kuwaiti community for discussing sensitive issues that touch on the marital life and family relationships. Following this, the Ministry of Information (Kuwait) issued an official statement on 19 March 2024 announcing that they will take action against the series crew, considering that the work offends the State of Kuwait and affects the morals of the society. On 8 April 2024, just a few days before the end of the month of Ramadan during which the series is being aired, the Ministry of Information (Kuwait) decided to stop airing the series, and referred the producers to the Public Prosecution accusing them of insulting the values and morals of the Kuwaiti society. Furthermore, the ministry decided to prohibit the actors of the series from acting in any work in Kuwait, whether it is TV or play.
