ى
Hi, Karim. Please, don't rewrite the final ى to ي in Egyptian-related topics.
The final form as ى is the standard and common form used in Egypt in Literary Arabic and in print as well as handwritten forms. Read more at aleph#alif maqsura and yodh#Perso-Arabic ye. Arabic is a pluricentric language, don't forget. Just like British-related topics use British spellings, Egyptian-related topics use Egyptian spellings. --Esperfulmo (talk) 22:55, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Esperfulmo I don't see much difference. The used template is {{lang-ar}}, not {{lang-arz}}, as you see. Anyway, is this the official name? --Karim talk to me :)..! 23:04, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- Literary Arabic, also called Modern Standard Arabic, and Classical Arabic, uses the template {{lang-ar}}.
- The way Egyptians spell with the undotted ى is standard practice in Egypt and it's actually the original way to spell the letter finally.
- The dotted final form ي was a Levantine novelty that just started to get popular in other countries after Arabizing computers after the eighties.
- The undotted form is used even in printed Koran books. Nothing is less right about it. --Esperfulmo (talk) 23:13, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- What is in the template {{lang-ar}} should be as Misplaced Pages:Manual of Style/Arabic#Transliteration. Are the edits you reverted as written officially? --Karim talk to me :)..! 23:22, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
