rʨanaɢ /contribs 15:59, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

English Misplaced Pages

Dear Editor. Thank you for your interest in English Misplaced Pages. New users are always welcome.

However, your current knowledge of the English language is - as you say - at such a basic level that is difficult to see how you could work here.

Your request today to User talk:RadioFan shows the problem. From what is understandable, it reads like a demand! I'm sure you didn't mean it to but this is the sort of problem that would happen many times and could make things frustrating for you if your meanings cannot be understood clearly.

Help with editing Misplaced Pages is always available and RadioFan would be pleased to help. But help with basic English is outside the scope of the project. Put simply, the amount of help you need is so great that it would be impossible to give it.

Why not start an account over at the Simple English Misplaced Pages  ? I think you would like it there and would get the help you need.

Best wishes Plutonium27 (talk) 17:12, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

  • When your English has improved, you'll find it much easier and more enjoyable here. There's no need for all this "I'll never come back" drama, really. Nor do you need to close your page - just put a note saying you're taking a long break and maybe come back sometimes to do little edits that you are sure of and meanwhile, practice your English where you can get more help. Globalization template for Battle of Frenchman's Creek

Hi fellow Wikipedian,
My communication is about the globalization template that you added (on March 09, 2010) to the article for the Battle of Frenchman's Creek.
The template says, "The examples and perspective in this article deal primarily with North America and do not represent a worldwide view of the subject".
I would have thought it obvious that an article about a military engagement that took place in North America would deal with the subject primarily in a North American context. This was a small-scale battle in the War of 1812 and one that had no strategic consequences whatever. The article clearly states that the incident was part of the War of 1812 and the user has the opportunity to click on the War of 1812 in order to find out all about that conflict and its wider international context.
What sort of "worldwide view" are you asking for here? What sort of "examples and perspective" would you regard as being more appropriate?
It is all very well adding a template saying that the article has an insufficiently global persepective: but unless you explain what you mean by this in real terms, i.e. by giving examples of what is wrong and (ideally) suggestions of how they could be put right, then there is nothing that anyone can do to help the situation.
Best wishes,
Flonto (talk) 12:19, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

--俠刀行 (talk) 12:30, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
--俠刀行 (talk) 12:47, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

rʨanaɢ (talk) 16:11, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
Hi fellow Wikipedian. I am sorry but I am not able to read the reply that you have written to my query concerning the Battle of Frenchman's Creek globalization template. What you have typed (and also what Rjanag has typed) appear to me simply as a series of white squares. Is this perhaps because of the browser that I am using? So I still do not know what kind of changes you desire in the article.
Regards, Flonto (talk) 16:58, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

  • Enhlish: Sorry for replying late, I've looked for the dictionary to know your meaning. I guess that The view of that battle lacks something important. That is mean by(to say), it writes only about American armies and so forth. I didn't see the invading plan for the British army.

On the other hand, I'm not good at English. I'll get confused if you use a harder grammar. The point is...my level of English is en-0.--俠刀行 (talk) 00:51, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

  • English: Hi,dear wikipedian. I finally saw your message at right here. But the article still has the problem of globalization. Attention: please do not remove the globalization template. My friend Rjanag will explain everything about my idea (I've asked him for translation). Please be more patient and do not remove the template again. Thank you, guy.--俠刀行 (talk) 04:49, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

New improvements to Battle of Frenchman's Creek

Hi fellow Wikipedian,
I have looked into what you said about there being insufficient information in the article from the British side. At first, I thought that nothing could usefully be added because the general strategic situation was adequately covered in other articles and because this article was about a surprise invasion of Canada by the Americans that the British could not make any plans regarding. On closer inspection, however, I determined that in fact more information would be helpful to the reader.
I have made two additions in this respect. Firstly, I have added to the ‘Background’ section a paragraph explaining that the British supreme commander in North America had forbidden his subordinates to engage in any attacks on the Niagara Frontier and so all that they could do in this area was distribute their troops to try to guard the border. Secondly, I have added a paragraph to the end of the ‘Aftermath’ section, which describes the British reaction to the incident. Because so little attention was paid to the incident by the British and Canadians, very little about their viewpoint seems to have been recorded. Most books about the War of 1812 skim over the events in the article without going into detail. As a consequence of this, my version had to be pieced together mostly from original documents published in Ernest Cruikshank’s Documentary History (cited in the ‘Bibliography’ section).
Please take a look at those changes (whenever you have time – there is no hurry) and, if you still think that improvements are needed, describe what you think is still required on Talk:Battle of Frenchman's Creek. It is important that you write your suggestions, not on your own talk page, but on the talk page for the article where they can be seen by any Misplaced Pages user who is interested in improving the article.
Best wishes, Flonto (talk) 11:02, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Dear somebody, I cannot get it that what types of Simple English, English wikipedia are. They're all English so that I have no idea. Another question is, Can I write something and put it on English wikipedia by Simple English? Is that possible?--俠刀行 (talk) 17:01, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

Welcome to Misplaced Pages. Please do not replace pages with blank content, as you did with this edit to Battle of Canton (1857), as this is confusing to readers. The page's content has been restored for now. If there is a problem with the page, it should be edited or reverted to a previous version if possible; if you think the page should be removed entirely, see further information. Thank you.

这已经在此条目写得比较清楚:"fought in the proximity of Beiping (now Beijing)". rʨanaɢ (talk) 23:58, 9 January 2012 (UTC)
