==Structures== | |||
Dear Ed: I am putting on my curgudeony hat for this message. I think that the recently appearing pictures of nitrate salts are uhelpful and in fact they are quite misleading. These species have far more complex structures: they are 3-d polymers, right? Organic chemists would hit the roof if I said that polyethylene had the structure CH2. Okay, maybe your (if you are the artist, apologies otherwise!) intention is to represent something about solution structure. Nope, the cations are definitely not naked, but have strongly bonded ligands (in water, the ligands would be H2O, mainly) and the nitrate would have 3-fold symmetry. If you feel strongly otherwise, we should discuss this effort or your intentions on the project page, because this aspect is kind of policy theme. Thanks,--] (]) 17:26, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
:I understand your concern. I saw that several articles, such as ] and ], already had structures drawn as I have done. And since so many other nitrate compounds were listed in the category of needing a chemical structure drawing, I created those images. These images aren't intended to be representative of three-dimensional crystallographic form - much the same way a typical skeletal structure of an organic compound isn't representative of conformation. But they have value in the context of understanding connectivity. If these images are inappropriate, I don't mind if they all need to be removed or replaced. Perhaps this is something that should be brought up at one of the chemistry wikiprojects. -- ] (]) 17:59, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
:Thanks for the response. I will probably leave them be. One further comment in response to your organicker remark "much the same way a typical skeletal structure of an organic compound isn't representative of conformation." the pictures of the nitrates have almost ''zero'' relation to reality, whereas the 2-dimensional projections of an organic molecules has got the connectivity correct. BTW, thanks for all of your work (aside from this transgression!). Cheers, --] (]) 23:59, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Our group, the NaCl people, can get extra points if we can BS about sucrose. Thanks for the input! We didn't think of that one! We were also wondering what your personal opinion, as a PhD chemist, about NaCl versus Sucrose as a compound used for describing solubility in water? Do you think that sucrose is the best substance to use in order to describe solubility to a "lay person", or do you feel that NaCl is better to use when describing solubility?
One more question (if you don't mind!): What would the world be like if NaCl were insoluble in water? Thanks much. ] 19:44, 29 March 2006 (UTC)
:Frankly, I don't think it would make much difference when describing solubilty to a "lay person" whether I used salt or sugar as an example. This is probably why you have this question to debate. Since there isn't a clear answer to the question, the "winner" of your debate will depend on your debating skills, rather than the science. To answer your last question, life as we know it wouldn't exist if NaCl were not soluble in water - sodium cations are essential to the transmission of signals through nerve cells. --] (]) 20:20, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

Please use <nowiki>~~~</nowiki> to add yourself, as this will omit the date. If you do not wish to be on the list, thats okay! I respect the choice of every administrator/user on wikipedia. Hi Edgar, how's it going? I just received your message. Its nice to know that there are live people in the universe and not automatic joining messages. :Actually, ] says, "Has released two or more albums on a major label or ''one of the more important indie labels'' (i.e. an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster of performers, many of which are notable)." I don't see High-C meeting that criteria. If you disagree with me, that's fine. Hi, I was just on one of my school's computers and I attempted to edit my userpage without being online then I saw that the IP was disabled. I just wanted to let you know that IP 207.61.101.2 is an entire school's IP address and it might have been one person that vandalized (I'm assuming it was vandalism) a page on Misplaced Pages. ] is the name of the school which IP was blocked. ] 03:49, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
:Because of the repeated vandalism coming from that IP address, it has been blocked mulitple times for long durations. It is well within Misplaced Pages's blocking policy to prevent editing from IP addresses that have been the source of that much vandalism. To protect Misplaced Pages, I don't think it would be a good idea to unblock. The current block is a "soft block" which only prevents anonymous editing and allows those who wish to contribute constructively, such as you, to do so. -- ] (]) 17:40, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Howdy, I was curious why ] was deleted and then restored. Was it to remove vandalism or something? I had a vague memory I had edited it, but I am not in the history now. Quite possibly it was another article, or part of my cleanup of "we have 30 articles on the same concept, most of which are linked from this article" that didn't require any edits. Just want to make sure I understand how it works, and that I didn't make any edits that needed removal :) ] (]) 16:07, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
:A user added to that article a phone number and an invitation to make prank calls to it. The same thing was done to multiple other articles until he was blocked from editing. I wanted to eliminate those edits from the visible histories of the articles. The only way for an admin to do this is to delete the whole article and then to restore all but the offending edits. Do you think, it is also possible to draw the structure of ]? It looks quite complicated to me. ;-) The best model might probably be (IMHO better than on PubChem). --] 20:21, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
:I've added a structure that is based on both Chemical Abstracts and the Merck Index. I'm not quite sure how to represent the 8 Al(OH)3 groups. They are not covalently bound to the disaccharide portion, but the both Chem Abstracts and the Merck Index indicate that each of the is associated with one of the 8 aluminium groups that are part of the disaccharide. Merck Index just writes out that part in text as SO3. I've decided to represent it in a bit of an ambiguous fashion. The online databases PubChem and Drugbank have structures that don't make too much sense chemically. I've seen this before with complexes with parts that are not covalently associated -the result is automatically generated structures that are a bit confused. -- ] (]) 23:19, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.
If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. :In general, Misplaced Pages does not block IP addresses in anticipation of vandalism, but usually only to stop ongoing vandalism. That IP address has been responsible for a small amount of vandalism (relatively speaking) and has received a couple of short blocks in response. do you think it would be worthwhile to lock the oxybutynin article for a bit? someone has written in that it is a "very effective" treatment for hyperhidrosis. Their supporting documentation is a case report with just one patient, and then two _comment_ articles. I edited this to read "possible" treatment based on lack of supporting data and user Try45 immediately undid the revision with no explanation. Hello,
I tried to start the page, '''Applying to Graduate School in Psychology: Advice From Successful Students and Prominent Psychologists'''. I understand that parts of the original page appeared to be blatent advertising. I revised the page to remove blatent advertising and increased a focus on the book as a first of its kind. I also placed an entry on the talk page defending place as a legitimate entry, which I've reproduced here:
This page represents a legitimate encyclopedia entry because it is the first book published by the American Psychological Association - the largest and most popular publisher of psychological resources - to be edited by current graduate students in psychology. This is a significant accomplishment in view of the 100's if not 1000's of books on pursuing higher education that are exclusively published by professionals. Furthermore, it is also unique to other such resources because it is predominantly authored by graduate students.
To reduce the impression that this page is an advertisement, I have removed the long block quote describing the marketable qualities of the book.
Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/Talk:Applying_to_Graduate_School_in_Psychology:_Advice_From_Successful_Students_and_Prominent_Psychologists"
My intention creating this page was to document the novelty of a book about getting into graduate school in psychology that is edited by actual graduate students. It is a first of its kind, which seems like a legitimate reason for being included in an encyclopedia such as Misplaced Pages. If not, please explain.

I have made numerous lookups in Misplaced Pages. I confess that I am absolutely confused by your refusal to include this page among the 2.4 million entries in Misplaced Pages, thus far. Ctoads is absolutely unique in the world. With due humility, Its creator, Steven J. Manning, is an internationally known and respected authority in a couple industries, as well as a speaker on a wide variety of subjects. To all who read Ctoads and Steven J. Manning, this site absolutely satisfies your requirements.

Faith in Action
Edgar, would you be able to help me comply with the numerous requests on the Faith in Action page? I am not truly getting what I need to do or if someone else has to do it? I appreciate any help given. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Volunteers2502 (talk • contribs) 14:11, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
- In my opinion, the cleanup requests were a bit excessive, so I've removed a couple of them and also a little bit of copyediting. What the article really needs are citations to reliable sources independent of Faith in Action. Newspaper articles, mentions on third-party websites, etc. Can you try to find these kinds of things and add them to the article as references? This will help the article meet verifiability and notability guidelines. 15:19, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Thank you Edgar for your help, I can come up with some articles and hopefully I can put them up there (my confidence level is sinking fast) lol Jackey —Preceding unsigned comment added by Volunteers2502 (talk • contribs) 16:31, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
re block of User:216.220.94.82
I indef blocked them because they had been blocked previously and hadn't made any good contribs. Plus, there was no note on the talk page or in the block log that said it was a school IP. The Placebo Effect (talk) 14:16, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

6 Month Block?
Hey, I'm not one to question an admin, but 6months? They hadn't been warned since 11 Feb, which was also only a Level 1 warning. I'm definetly not a vandal sympathiser. But as shown, it's a shared IP, it could have been a completely different user. Perhaps a shorter block might be appropriate here, perhaps a week? 6 months seems a bit too severe here, in my opinion. Steve Crossin (talk to me) 17:01, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- Based on a history of repeated vandalism and multiple prior month+ blocks, a 6 month block is what I will routinely apply in this situation. The block is anonymous only, so registered users will still be able to edit, but the anonymous vandalism will be prevented. -- Ed (Edgar181) 17:10, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- Fair enough, you are the admin after all. Was just voicing my thoughts, as I watch and check reports on AIV quite a bit. Cheers, Steve Crossin (talk to me) 17:16, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Methoxylamine Hydrochloride
On a different subject, I see chemistry is your special field. I've been trying to write an article on Methoxylamine Hydrochloride (was a requested article) but I'm a bit stuck for sources. And a 3D model would help as well. Any suggestions? Steve Crossin (talk to me) 17:19, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- I'd recommend creating an article for the parent compound methoxylamine. Information about salts of that compound, such as the hydrochloride could be added as well. Basic data for an infobox can be found at PubChem . To get information for the article, Google Scholar might be the place to start. -- Ed (Edgar181) 17:25, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks a lot. I'll have to try putting that all into an infobox. I think its time to go bed, I'm exhausted. Thanks for your help, and reponse to my question about the block. If I need help with that article, I'll know who to ask for help. Cheers, Steve Crossin (talk to me) 17:29, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi Ed. The structural formula you drawed does not correspond to PubChem. Can you please check? Thanks. --Leyo 16:50, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Azidomorphine
Hi Edgar. Would you mind terribly drawing a nicer structure for azidomorphine? I've put one there which will do for now, but I'm not sure what the best way to draw an azide group should be as I'd imagine its delocalised rather than having formal charges as shown, and also I realised that it should be bent and I drew it linear, very sloppy of me.Meodipt (talk) 11:41, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- Drawing the charges like that on an azide is just fine. I created an image uploaded to Commons with the proper geometry around the first nitrogen. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:51, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Mikethecoug
Ed, I'm not one to have any regard or respect for persistent vandals, but this guy User Talk:Mikethecoug had not had any warnings since May 2007. I had just given a warning and went to comment at AIV when I saw you had indef. Not really questioning your decision if you want to stand by it, as his edits leave much to be desired, just giving you a heads up. Cheers. -- Alexf 12:15, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- Looks like we were editing at the same time - when I looked at his talk page, the warning from you was not there yet. I wouldn't have blocked if I had seen that someone had given him one last warning. Though, with a history of vandalism for more than a year without any constructive edits in that time, indef blocking seems appropriate to me. Feel free to unblock and give a second chance if you see fit to do so. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:22, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Image:Piperonal structure.png
Hi Ed. I think your structures would be better (i.e. clearer for non-chemists), if you would draw the H in the aldehyde group. Otherwise, it could be confused with a ketone. --Leyo 21:28, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

I notice you have removed my addition of 'Ellie's Silly Snuff' from the selection of street names for methcathinone. I understand that I do not have a history of contributions to this site and that the information I presented could therefore be considered suspect. However I can assure you that Methcathinone has recently appeared for illicit sales in the UK under the name 'Ellie's Silly Snuff' A reply would be Appreciated.

- Information added to Misplaced Pages should be verifiable. Can you find something to verify the information you added - or any of the other street names? That would help. It's possible that the whole street names section should be removed unless we can find a reference to verify them. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:53, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

- OK, done. I changed data in the infobox to match the parent compound, and put a link to the PubChem data for the citrate salt in the external links. Hopefully that's fine with you. -- Ed (Edgar181)
Structures
Thanks,--Smokefoot (talk) 17:26, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- I understand your concern. I saw that several articles, such as ammonium nitrate and sodium nitrate, already had structures drawn as I have done. -- Ed (Edgar181) 17:59, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response. I will probably leave them be. One further comment in response to your organicker remark "much the same way a typical skeletal structure of an organic compound isn't representative of conformation." the pictures of the nitrates have almost zero relation to reality, whereas the 2-dimensional projections of an organic molecules has got the connectivity correct. BTW, thanks for all of your work (aside from this transgression!). Cheers, --Smokefoot (talk) 23:59, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello, the Roasted barley tea article mentions a chemical called alkylpyrazine. Is this a real chemical and do you have the expertise to create a stub about it? Badagnani (talk) 05:28, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
- "Alkylpyrazine" is not a specific chemical because alkyl refers to a series forming a chemical group. If there are enough common characteristics of alkylpyrazines as a group, it may be worth an article though. I'll look into it. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:31, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

207.61.101.2
Hi, I was just on one of my school's computers and I attempted to edit my userpage without being online then I saw that the IP was disabled. I just wanted to let you know that IP 207.61.101.2 is an entire school's IP address and it might have been one person that vandalized (I'm assuming it was vandalism) a page on Misplaced Pages. Russell High School is the name of the school which IP was blocked. The reason why I am contacting you is because it said that you were the one that blocked the IP. Please remove the ban. Loghead1 (talk) 16:51, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- Because of the repeated vandalism coming from that IP address, it has been blocked mulitple times for long durations. -- Ed (Edgar181) 17:40, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- True, true, and I only use my username anyways. Thanks! Loghead1 (talk) 21:37, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
RE: Missing chemical structure
Hello. When I have checked the article Flunixin Meglumine, there was no chemical structure added. :-) Carlo Banez (talk) 14:28, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- I added images and converted it to the combination drugbox. -- Ed (Edgar181) 15:33, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, but now I'm rethinking the combo drugbox considering the meglumine part is not an active ingredient. -- Ed (Edgar181) 15:35, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Ceftriaxone structure
I just noticed that there is an error in the structure image you posted for ceftriaxone. On the left side, the oxygen connecting the six membered ring to the cephalosporin nucleus should be a sulfur. Thanks for you work. Bdeyes (talk) 12:03, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
- You're right, thanks for catching it. I have fixed it now. -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:02, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
Curious about Generalized Verma module del/restore
Howdy, I was curious why Generalized Verma module was deleted and then restored. Was it to remove vandalism or something? I had a vague memory I had edited it, but I am not in the history now. Quite possibly it was another article, or part of my cleanup of "we have 30 articles on the same concept, most of which are linked from this article" that didn't require any edits. Just want to make sure I understand how it works, and that I didn't make any edits that needed removal :) JackSchmidt (talk) 16:07, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
- A user added to that article a phone number and an invitation to make prank calls to it. The same thing was done to multiple other articles until he was blocked from editing. I wanted to eliminate those edits from the visible histories of the articles. The only way for an admin to do this is to delete the whole article and then to restore all but the offending edits. This is what occurred at Generalized Verma module. There were no edits by you deleted from the article's history. I hope this explains it. -- Ed (Edgar181) 16:22, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation and for checking the history. Crazy people out there; thanks for tidying up after them! JackSchmidt (talk) 16:29, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
My edits to your userpage
I've edited your shortcuts list as the {{shortcut}} template was not being used correctly, per CAT:SHORTFIX. You may wish to change how you have shortcuts listed on your userpage, as I think some of the edits I made means that the links no longer show up. -- Flyguy649 14:35, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I know I wasn't using it "properly" but it was an easy way to get what I wanted. I guess I'll have to do it the hard way now. Thanks for letting me know. -- Ed (Edgar181) 19:31, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

RE: Missing chemical structures
Hi, could you please add chemical structures to the following:
There are no chemical structures in these articles. :-) Carlo Banez (talk) 18:08, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Sucralfate
Do you think, it is also possible to draw the structure of sucralfate? It looks quite complicated to me. ;-) The best model might probably be this one (IMHO better than on PubChem). --Leyo 20:21, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- I've added a structure that is based on both Chemical Abstracts and the Merck Index. -- Ed (Edgar181) 23:19, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Why is there so much water? 14 waters if I'm not wrong. Water of crystallization? --Rifleman 82 (talk) 20:27, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- It wouldn't surprise me at all if the material was quite hydroscopic and the number of water molecules associated with it would vary depending on manufacturing conditions, crystallization method, humidity upon storage, etc. There's quite a bit of polarity in that beast of a molecule. -- Ed (Edgar181) 23:19, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, the structure looks good IMHO. When looking at aluminium hydroxide, it would not be surprising if sucralfate is quite hydroscopic. --Leyo 00:03, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Fair enough. I saw the pubchem page and from the SMILES I copied, all the water were just that - free water. Usually I would just omit these waters of crystallization. But, I see that the image here is a bit different. --Rifleman 82 (talk) 01:50, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Diagram
Hi, can you add a diagram for Retinyl palmitate? Badagnani (talk) 00:50, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- I'm wondering if this page should just redirect to retinol. Some context would be the mono, di, trisodium citrate pages. --Rifleman 82 (talk) 01:54, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- The palmitate form is widely used as an ingredient in processed foods. Badagnani (talk) 03:41, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- This is one that could probably go either way. I don't think it would be bad to merge into retinol, but I'd be inclined to leave it as a separate article considering its distinct uses as a food additive and as a pharmaceutical treatment for vitamin A deficiency. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:36, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
New articles needed
Can you help create stubs for these, or are they synonyms for articles we already have?
Badagnani (talk) 03:45, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- I created stubs for all three. -- Ed (Edgar181) 15:03, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Thank You
For doing such a great job at WP:AIV that i just had to send you a message. It was you who finally blocked this pest after numerous vandal edits and he was actually calling for it! And i was waiting and waiting and waiting and it looked like from here at 14:00 UTC all the admins were asleep or if they were in your land they had a sleep in. Not you, you were wide awake there and i commend you for being there when admins were needed! I know there are only 1500 of you around the world but you never know when it might get busy. Thanks again and you deserve a barnstar. Cheers Roadrunnerz45 05:41, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Salute day
- Thank-you for putting an end to that entire issue. I don't think that my comments should have been removed from the discussion page, espacially since it says not to remove them. But I do think that this was the right choice considering the threatening attitude of the Baseball person.
Here were my final comments that were removed. maybe you can put them back.
- Tovarish is a word that exists, yet you can't find it. Grab a dictionary and look up Samovar. You will find the definition to be a Samovar. Not very helpful, yet that is a Published Source. I think that you are beginning to make my point for me, yet it is moot as I have removed the entire article. Feel free to bully someone else. Oh, by the way, First Amendment day just came and went. It started much the same way, and is only just now getting any published pieces after six years, (it is actually 9 years old, but recognized as six) My point is that there is not a Misplaced Pages Article on it....maybe you should create one.

New Project
Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.
If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Misplaced Pages namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 02:57, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

User 69.24.5.21
I am contacting you due to your obviously superior knowledge of wikipedia than me due to age of account. As I do not know the process I am hoping you can take care of it.
69.24.5.21 (talk · contribs) has been cited multiple times for vandalism. I have tipped off a few classroom administrators as I know who caused the most recent vandalism, however there are near 200 computers in this school sharing the same IP so it is near impossible to monitor all of the students. I hope you can find a way to block anonymous edits from this IP address. I am nearly 100% sure this vandalism will not stop so I am suggesting the block in order to stop most vandalism from this IP.
Thank you, Php Jesse (talk) 17:27, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
- In general, Misplaced Pages does not block IP addresses in anticipation of vandalism, but usually only to stop ongoing vandalism. That IP address has been responsible for a small amount of vandalism (relatively speaking) and has received a couple of short blocks in response. If additional inappropriate editing comes from that IP, longer blocks (usually preventing only anonymous editing) will be applied. However, since there have been no edits at all from that IP in a couple of weeks, there doesn't seem to be any need for a block currently. If the vandalism does continue at some point, please warn them (see WP:WARN), or report it to WP:AIV. I hope this helps explain things. -- Ed (Edgar181) 17:37, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
ZERO TO THREE
Hi, I'm an intern at ZERO TO THREE creating a page for them. The organization is a non-profit. I want them to have a Wiki page since what they do (early childhood education) correlates with other subjects on Misplaced Pages. This isn't blantant advertising. How can I get the page back up? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Worthgr (talk • contribs) 19:57, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
- The article came across as completely promotional, rather than encyclopedic in tone. It doesn't really matter whether it is a non-profit organization or not. Before trying to rewrite the article in a more neutral fashion, you might want to first take a look at Misplaced Pages's notability guidelines. If the organization doesn't meet guidelines, it is likely to be deleted again. Also, it is considered a conflict of interest to write about organizations with which you are affiliated, so it is probably best to let someone else create it. -- Ed (Edgar181) 20:02, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

I would like ISKCON's "Issues within the society" and "Rath Yatra controversy" to be kindly removed. Firstly, respecting people's beliefs, i do not find it fair that negative information such as this should be displayed PUBLICLY on a site as well known as this. Secondly, these contraversies have no solid proof to substantiate them, and have widely been said to ruin ISKCON's reputation.
I deleted the information earlier, because i believed it necessary to protect ISKCON's reputation. Being a follower myself, i found it offensive to have seen such invalid and inappropriate information on a public website.
Please kindly take these points into consideraiton.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Srilap (talk • contribs)

lock oxybutynin
do you think it would be worthwhile to lock the oxybutynin article for a bit? someone has written in that it is a "very effective" treatment for hyperhidrosis. Their supporting documentation is a case report with just one patient, and then two _comment_ articles. I edited this to read "possible" treatment based on lack of supporting data and user Try45 immediately undid the revision with no explanation. Then you restored my revision, and Try45 quickly reversed your action. Any attempts to fix this are rapidly undone by Try45 with no explanation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Scott1976 (talk • contribs) 03:07, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- Generally, pages aren't locked from editing unless there is vandalism or severe disruption of some sort. I think this is something that can be resolved by discussion. I have asked Try45 to discuss his edits on the article's talk page. -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:05, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- What is your supporting data for using the term 'possible' ? , instead of 'very effective' ?.
I think you are splitting hairs with me.
- Someone else could easily remove your connection of Oxybutynin with hyperhidrosis altogether, because Oxybutynin is not actually licenced for hyperhidrosis.
- Who says that YOUR wording is exactly correct?.
- Try45
- I've copied you comments to Talk:oxybutynin and replied there. That is probably a more appropriate place for the discussion so that others interested in the article can see it and participate. Hopefully Scott1976 can comment there too.-- Ed (Edgar181) 13:36, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

ChemSpider is granted Rollback?
Edgar181 - I noticed that you did something to my privileges regarding rollback? Can you explain what this means for me? Thanks --ChemSpiderMan (talk) 04:08, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- Rollback is a feature that makes reverting vandalism easier - you should notice just an extra button when you look at an article's history. It's a privilege that any administrator can grant to another account. I think it is something that should be given to every trusted user, even if they aren't going to use it much, so I've been giving it to every regular wikichemist. Sorry that I neglected to drop you note letting you know. (If you object, I can remove it.) -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:25, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the "trust". I'll use the privilege when I see the need. Appreciated--ChemSpiderMan (talk) 15:08, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Thank you.
Thank you for blocking the anonymous user who repeatedly vandalized my userpage. It is greatly appreciated. I have a related question for you, though. Given that the vandalism arose from a content dispute at the Whiskey in the Jar article, and that more than one anon is involved in said content dispute, do you think that page protection is in order? Frankly, this is one of the silliest content disputes in which I have ever been involved, but there are real issues here, and it should be addressed in a reasonable manner. Thanks again for your time and efforts. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 18:52, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- You're welcome. I've semi-protected the page for now. Hopefully this will encourage the individual to either contribute constructively to discussion on the talk page, or to find something else to do. -- Ed (Edgar181) 20:22, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- My guess, though I have been wrong about this sort of thing before, is that if he is not able to impose his version, he will tire of it and go away. Let us hope this is the case. Cheers! ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 20:51, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Di-tert-butyl peroxide
Sir,
Please explain your deletion of significant information in the article "Di-tert-butyl peroxide"
You removed, among other information, the proton NMR shift, which to my knowledge is not available in any other free reference.
The revision:

- I didn't remove it. That little bit of info was removed by Rifleman 82 (talk · contribs) when he updated the infobox. Hi. :) I happened to notice that when you restored this article, you didn't restore the talk page. (The restoration was fresh up on the deletion log when I checked it today; I noticed then, but kept the article open while doing other things so as not to anticipate you.) I'm pretty sure that it's restoration is uncontroversial, so I've taken the liberty of bringing it back. Not much on it but a project tag, but it has been assessed so it might save some duplicate effort. If I've misread the situation and you would rather I not have restored the talk page, then please accept my hearty apologies and feel free to redelete. :) Second-guessing people sometimes backfires and there may be other factors you had in mind there of which (obviously) I'm unaware. --Moonriddengirl 14:08, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Wallaceij - deleted page
Hello, I tried to start the page, Applying to Graduate School in Psychology: Advice From Successful Students and Prominent Psychologists.
Additionally, please move my deleted page to my userpage. Thank you. --Ian (talk) 19:24, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- Based on the content of the article, I don't think the book meets Misplaced Pages's standards for inclusion as outlined at Misplaced Pages:Notability (books). OK, the Hub Bike Coop article has now been deleted TWICE. I added a talk page to start a discussion regarding the article's problems, a discussion which you swiftly DELETED. So what is wrong with you??? Are you against healthy debate??? Do you oppose constructive negotiation??? Are you seemingly hell-bent on destroying the American ideals of the right to free speach and opinion??? Well if you are, I highly reccommend that you leave Misplaced Pages IMMEDIATELY, because it is people like YOU who create these one-sided non peer-reviewed articles. I was looking into this (I removed the message from AIV) and just saw you blocked this IP - I have a feeling the block is actually the fault of CanadianLinuxUser (talk · contribs) who upset an anon user by reverting their good faith edit, which was actually a correct edit, and then slapped a warning template on the anon user. The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada Misplaced Pages page
I am the DCO (second-in-command)of the Camerons of Canada and have tried to edit the Misplaced Pages page on my Regiment to include better links (one of which is to the Regiment's own website). After editing the page I received a message that Misplaced Pages had reverted the page to how it was prior to my additions. If there is anyone who is more of a subject matter expert on the Regiment than I am, I already know them personally or would be very interested in corresponding with them. Beta-Benzenehexachloride
Hi Ed, Would you think the article Beta-Benzenehexachloride reliably named? This isn't about a benzene but about a hexane. You were the first editor to do something about this article, therefore I ask, before I suggest some bold action for it. Wim van Dorst (talk) 21:10, 21 June 2008 (UTC).
- Confusingly, "benzenehexachloride" is used as a common name for the isomers of hexachlorocyclohexane (as can be seen at PubChem or AlanWood.net), but now that you mention it, I think it would be a good idea to move that article to a title with a systematic name or a less confusing common name. There are a number of functionalities on the site that are unique to it, not found anywhere else in the space. It is a "first" in many ways.

Edgar.
Perhaps you will spend some time on the site. And contribute to it as well.
Thanks.

I had requested on Talk:Hexaware that it should not be deleted, instead just put one liner stating it is an important IT company in India. - I deleted the article because the content was blatant advertising, full of PR doublespeak. There was no {{hangon}} on the article, but even if there was, it would still be appropriate to delete such an article. If you feel that it should be replaced with a "one liner stating it is an important IT company in India," please feel free to do so. In fact, it's better to do so now, after deletion of the inappropriate content. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:22, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
