NYC Meetup: Saturday, December 4

Our next Misplaced Pages NYC Meetup is this weekend on Saturday Dec 4 at Brooklyn Museum during their awesome First Saturdays program, starting at 5 PM.

A particular highlight for the wiki crowd will be 'Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists, 1958–1968', and the accompanying "WikiPop" project, with specially-created Misplaced Pages articles on the artists displayed on iPads in the gallery.

This will be a museum touring and partying meetup, so no excuses about being a shy newbie this time. Bring a friend too!

Re: More Railroads

Yes I do, but the Erie Railroad, Lackawanna Railroad, Central Railroad of New Jersey are my focus. The Erie being the real main focus. As for Ocean City 10th and 34th, yes I believe it is the PRSL. Mitch32 02:02, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Hospitals

Strictly speaking, hospitals provide much more than emergency services - so that is why I had not included it thereunder in the Islip article. I agree that one-sentence sections have become all too commonplace on LI articles (thanks to a certain other editor), but do you really think it better to proceed with such subsuming? --JimWae (talk) 20:23, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of List of county roads in Volusia County, Florida

I have proposed that List of county roads in Volusia County, Florida, on which you have worked, be deleted. The reason is that it fails to satisfy Misplaced Pages's notability requirements, which would require the topic of county roads in Volusia County to be the subject of significant discussion in reliable independent sources. A secondary concern is that all or most of the roads on the list are not themselves notable, and if removed would leave the list too short in scope to be of encyclopaedic use. - DustFormsWords (talk) 05:18, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Infobox station

Let me tell you a story about Infobox station, that was told to me by a bearded man in a red coat. Once upon a time a good fairy created the {{{lines}}} parameter for a "List of services that serve the station" (Yes! The documentation calls it "services"). Meanwhile, deep in the forests, some energetic elves were creating S-rail and S-line templates, which would create succession boxes containing that same line information, suplemented with the previous and next stations along the route and the terminii in each direction. This system has gone on to supplant a number of individual custom boxes. A wise wiki wizard then thought it would be a good idea to create a {{{services}}} parameter which "Allows inclusion of the s-rail/s-line boxes" in the Infobox. Why then do we have two parameters for the same lines/services information? This allows for the entry of either basic line information or the more sophisticated succession box system, when it is available. Help me to understand this. Why do you wish to retain redundant lists of information? What you have restored to {{{lines}}}} in some station articles, is exacly duplicated with more detail under {{{services}}}. Yes. Unknown to me the system had crashed me out. I have, so far, only cleaned up overstuffed infoboxes, where the bottom of the box has been pushed somewhere over the rainbow. Look at those articles and it seems so obvious to me that it is an either/or option. Again I ask you, what purpose does the duplication serve? Secondarywaltz (talk) 18:19, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Railroads at Dallas Union Terminal

The pre-Amtrak railroads serving Dallas Union Terminal (the correct name prior to its 1970s renaming as Dallas Union Station) included Texas & Pacific, Santa Fe, Cotton Belt, Fort Worth & Denver, Rock Island, Frisco, Katy, and Southern Pacific. More Volusia County Roads being deleted

The deletion squad seems to be picking on Volusia County lately! County_Road_4040_(Volusia_County,_Florida) and County_Road_4050_(Volusia_County,_Florida) have been proposed for deletion. These were two of the earliest roads to be be built in Daytona (before the city was incorporated). Need your help! Thanks. Gamweb (talk) 01:07, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Checking NowCommons

Hi! I noticed that you work a lot on files. That is nice :-)

If you check a NowCommons file you do not need to add a date . You can just mark the file as reviewd and then I or another admin can delete it within short time.

Just make sure all info is correct and mark is as checked on Commons and then review it on en-wiki .

In response to your answer on my talk page: Yes that IS the idea and you are welcome to add dates. My point was just that you do not need to if you mark the file as reviewed. The reason it takes so long time to clear the backlog is that it takes a lot of time to check and correct info. If you or any other trusted user marks the image as reviewed then the file will be deleted much faster because then the admins will know that this image is ok to delete. Often when information is missing or is incorrect I use http://toolserver.org/~magnus/commonshelper.php to fix that problem. --MGA73 (talk) 14:10, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Sacramento RT stations

You moved a large number of Sacramento RT stations (e.g. 4th Avenue / Wayne Hultgren) to disambiguated titles, citing "New name complies with naming conventions" as the reason. However, no disambiguation is the standard, only disambiguate when necessary. I haven't found a specific station naming convention at Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Trains/Manual of style, perhaps somewhere else, but I don't believe that your moves are actually compliant with the naming conventions, and would request that you undo them. I read the discussion at Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Trains#Sacramento RT Station Naming Conventions, where the first reply to you mentions "The user was acting against project naming conventions": which conventions, and why do they contradict the general naming conventions? The station of my example above is called 4th Avenue / Wayne Hultgren, and we have no other articles with this title, so why is a disambiguation needed? Because people don't know from the title what 4th Avenue / Wayne Hultgren is? That is the same with almost every other article, but we don't explain the subject of articles in the title (do you have any idea whether Animal Man is a book, a movie, a concept in Nietzschean philosopohy, a sociological construct, or the nickname of a contortionist?). And that's three times in a row. I'll go and revert your moves for being against our naming conventions, contrary to what you stated but were unable to substantiate. We don't use disambiguation to explain the subject of an article, we use it to disambiguate between different subjects with the same name. City College (Sacramento RT) needs the disambiguation, Watt/Manlove doesn't. (And I don't automatically know what What/Manlove (Sacramento RT) is anymore than I would without the disambiguation, RT is not really the most obvious abbreviation...)
