Maysara Abu Hamdiya (1948 – April 2, 2013) was a Palestinian prisoner in Israel, who died of throat cancer at the age of 64, in April 2013. Hamdiya was a retired Palestinian general and had been detained in prison since 2002.

He was convicted for being a Hamas operative and for orchestrating and recruiting a Hamas terrorist to carry out a suicide-bombing at a cafe in Jerusalem during the Second Intifada, subsequently the suicide bomber failed to detonate the bomb he was wearing during the attack.

Abu Hamdiyeh was being treated by specialist doctors at the Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba, Israel. He died during his chemotherapy treatment. He allegedly accused Israeli prison authorities of medical neglect and said he was only being given pain killers.

His death sparked protests in various Israeli prisons and in the city of Hebron, Jerusalem, and the West Bank. Following his death, hundreds of Palestinian youths threw stones and molotov cocktails at Israeli soliders. On the day of his death, Palestinians from Gaza, attempted to fire two mortar shells into Israel; both landed within the Gaza Strip. Later, that evening, a third projectile was fired into the Eshkol Regional Council in Israel. The Mujahedeen Shura Council claimed responsibility for the attacks, saying they were a response to the death of Abu Hamdiyeh.
