Dear Aeropagitica, the article on the Shedden massacre has a very long tag, and in the process of shortening the article by moving some of the material in the present to sub-articles. I've like to create on John Muscedere to move material on him in the Shedden massacre to there. There is a tag that says you deleted a present article on him back in April 2006. The rules say that I should contact first before recreating a deleted article, so here I am. I hope that you no objection to myself to recreating an article on him as a way to shorten an another article without deleting material that is properly sourced. Thank you for your time. == Republic of Artsakh ==

Hello. In my opinion, the status of this unrecognized state is not true. If the state does not recognize it, the country to which it belongs must also be written in its status. For example, unrecognized Abkhazia, South Ossetia, and Transnistria are not like Arsakh in the article. Arsakh's status was written by three non-UN member states. Sorry, is this important? Does it matter? However, they are unrecognized separatist organizations. Even four countries have recognized the independence of those separatist organizations. But Arsakh was not recognized by any state. Please correct this article. ] (]) 04:49, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

Silkroad Deletion

The article Silkroad Online has been deleted for apparently not being significant, well i have asked the user who deleted it a question but i doubt he knows much about MMORPG's and wont understand what i am saying. This is what i posted.

Why did you delete the article on Silkroad Online, it was very informative and MUST be restored. It is deffinetely significant as it is one of the most played (around 10th) online game on the internet. (according to Xfire it is played for 1 and a half million hours a day by only 5000 people registered with xfire yet there is atleast 5x the ammount of that number playing on the international erver at any given time, with the korean and japanese version being even more played leading me to believe it is played more then World Of Warcraft

As you can see it is very popular and infact was a huge article which has been around a while. I remember reading it over a year ago and it had alot of the things it had before. How do i go about getting the article restored, sorry im not that much of an active wikipedian so i dont no too much Brent01 (talk) 10:59, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Hillaryland

The claim you made that the Hillaryland stub was unverified and unsourced is blatantly inaccurate. I sourced the original stub with a link to the Washington Post, the preeminent political news organization in the US. If that is unsourced, then tell me what is. Your labelling struck me as arbitrary and spurious. --TallulahBelle 17:13, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Firstly, please remember to assume good faith on the part of other editors - your enquiry is unnecessarily hostile in tone. I don't think that you mean this but words on a page can be interpreted in more than one way. Hmmm, I see the problem. You have supplied an external link but not placed it within the framework for inline references, so it doesn't display in the prescribed manner. Have you seen Misplaced Pages:Footnotes at all? This demonstrates the correct manner for applying <reference> tags. Misplaced Pages:Citing sources is also useful. I will either make the necessary changes to the article when I return at 2100 UTC or look and see what you have done in the interim. Regards, (aeropagitica) 17:38, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Who died and made you Emily Post?--TallulahBelle 18:09, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

I imagine that this is an American pop culture reference that is lost on me. I'll sort the article out now, if it hasn't already been done. (aeropagitica) 21:07, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

The reference is now correctly cited. (aeropagitica) 21:30, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

My irritation towards you is founded on two factors: One, your double standard which verges on the hypocritical, and two, your tone and manner, which is portentous to the point of pompous.
Regarding the first issue: You present yourself as a stickler for detail and correct usage. Yet your failure to note a perfectly legitimate and clear reference to the Washington Post in the stub leads me to believe that you are only trying to give the appearance of thorough conscientiousness. Were you actually conscientious and detail-oriented, you would have easily noted the reference. If you had been unsatisfied with its form, you could have corrected it in your first edit. Yet in your first edit to the stub, you chose to place spurious labels on it, labels that serve no other purpose that to disqualify its veracity, rather than correcting what you claim was erroneous referencing.
Hence I don't believe you are actually conscientious or concerned about the veracity of Misplaced Pages articles. From your actions, I infer that you're interested in merely seeming to be so.
Second, your tone and manner: Admittedly, a pompous and portentous prose style isn't something that can be changed as easily as, say, a bad hair style. It's a reflection of your personality, after all. 'Nuff said.
Finally, the Emily Post reference isn't exactly pop culture—it's general culture. Again, it's something which a lack of genuine conscientiousness would prevent someone from finding out.

Expatica

Why do we have to keep unsourced spam on the strength of a 2/1 vote? I deleted this on sight, but restored when I read the talk page. Jimfbleak 06:01, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

There's nothing to prevent you from relisting this article on the AfD pages. If you have a business case for its deletion then please state it there. Regards, (aeropagitica) 16:07, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
OK, thanks. I've got to go to Hull tomorrow, but I'll think whether it's worth it when I get back, Jimfbleak 16:51, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Baltimore City College WikiProject

Hello I wanted to know if you could help me with a severe article problem with Baltimore City College. The members of their wikiproject keep reverting edits and monopolizing the entire article, including whats said in the article. there are a lot of POV statements that can't be changed because no administrators have intervened yet. If you look at the backlog, only two or three editor have made the last couple hundred edits, and they keep shutting other editors, like me, out. Your help in resolving this would be greatly appreciated.Thx2005 14:54, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Circus metal (again)

Hello. I am messaging you about the recreation (I believe for the fifth time) of the article Circus metal. I have seen you have participated in a previous AfD procedure for the article, and I would think you would be interested to give your opinion in the most recent one. Thanks in advance.

Question regarding linkspam

In a case where a user has added similar linkspam to a great many articles (e.g., ), is there a way to remove them all, without going through each article and simply hitting undo? I have gone through roughly half the articles on his contributions list, and have already left him a warning, but this is growing tedious. Thanks in advance for any thoughts you may have. Cheers! ---TheoldanarchistComhrá 17:32, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

I don't know of an autotool that would assist with this task, unfortunately. When I have dealt with similar cases I have had to keep the vandal's contributions page open in one tab and open each instance of offending linkspam in other tabs for rollback purposes. A little time-consuming to be sure. Perhaps someone else knows of such a tool? If you discover one then please do tell me! I have a feeling that its use may be reserved because of the possibilities of mass vandalism if it fell in to the wrong hands. Regards, (aeropagitica) 20:33, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Ok, makes sense. I am wrapped up in something else at the moment, but I will get back to deleting all that rubbish later. Thanks for your response. ---TheoldanarchistComhrá 20:45, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

The Marijuana Logues Script

I wanted to know if it was OK for me to add to the content of Misplaced Pages's current Marijuana Logues page by adding the script. I don't know if there are copy write policies in place... So basically I didn't want to figure out if I could and I just wanted a yes or no from someone with an informed opinion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.32.32.211 (talkcontribs)

All contributions to Misplaced Pages projects are governed by the GFDL licence. This means that every edit you make is given to the Wikimedia foundation and is no longer your property. If you want to post the creative work of other people then you need their express written permission that they acknowledge that the work now belongs to Misplaced Pages. Most people won't want to do this, so I would advise against cutting-and-pasting the work of others against their wishes. Read the help pages for more details. Fair use disputed for Image:STByAnyOtherName.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:STByAnyOtherName.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Misplaced Pages:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Misplaced Pages:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog) 17:58, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Signature

I would like to know how to change the color in my signature. I went to the signature page on Misplaced Pages but it did not do a good job of giving step by step instructions. I was wondering if you knew. Also, it said you need to be registered. Are being a user and being registered the same thing? Thank you, Libertyville 14:46, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Being a user and being registered are not the same thing, as the English Misplaced Pages currently accepts contributions from anonymous IP editors. You are registered as you have set up an account with a username to which your contributions are attributed. Changing your signature is not a difficult thing to do. Before I say anything else, I would encourage you to keep the code down to the bare minimum required, as often people create pretty signatures that take up three or more lines of code. This is very awkward to read through when contributing to a Talk page or a Policy page discussion.
The code for my signature looks like this: ] - very simple indeed. If I want to change the colour of said signature, I would add a hex value to the signature like this: ] which looks like this: (aeropagitica). The list of web colors is available at Web colors and you can experiment using the 'Show preview' button to minimise the number of edits you make. You can also create a user sub-page to do this. Please remember to keep the code string down to the bare minimum for the comfort and convenience of other editors! Regards, (aeropagitica) 07:07, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. - Libertyville | Talk 01:56, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion? wtf?

I made a page for both Trace Cyrus and Mason Musso. i dont understand why they were deleted. They are huge and they are in a band called Metro Station for whom I also created a page for. They have a cd out in September and their own myspace and purevolume pages. This all seems so stupid. And Trace is Miley Cyrus' brother. And Mason is Mitchell Musso's brother. It seems everyone on here is out of the loop so I'll clue you in. They are on Disney Channel. —Preceding unsigned comment added by LMSKICKS (talkcontribs)

Your explanation means nothing to me, sorry. If you have a request for a deleted page to be ressurected then please take it to Misplaced Pages:Deletion review along with your business case. I'd recommend explaining yourself in the clearest possible terms, as referring to one musician of which I know nothing in defence of a deleted article on another musician of which I know nothing is not a sound basis for argument. Where possible, articles should be sourced and those sources should be cited according to the guidelines. If you have an idea for an article but haven't gathered your sources together then it is best to place your ideas in a personal sandbox for revision before publication in the main article space. Lastly, please don't forget to sign your Talk page comments with four tildes, ~~~~, as this makes it far easier to contact you when you leave comments. About the Copyrights

i want to ask that can i upload an image of a sportsman taken from TV?--Adeelbutt88 16:53, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

I would take a look at Misplaced Pages:Image use policy and also ask your question at the Village Pump where someone better qualified than me in dealing with images will be able to assist. My impression is that the broadcaster of the image that you have captured would own the copyright and unless they have given you express permission to upload it to Misplaced Pages or Commons then its use on this project would not be advisable. Someone else will be able to give you a more thorough explanation of image usage, though. Regards, (aeropagitica) 17:39, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Deleted deletion debate

Hi. How's everything? A while back you deleted Talk:Pro-American sentiment under G8 after closing the afd. The talk page, however, was an archived deletion debate of an earlier "votes for deletion" (VfD) debate. See Misplaced Pages:Archived delete debates/May to Jun 2004, where this page is listed, now red-linked. This comes up as a result of this post at Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for deletion. Always a glutton for tedious research, I am going through the many red-linked pages and notifying the deleting admins. Can you restore the page? Thanks.--Fuhghettaboutit 02:20, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

There's nothing there to say that anything on the Talk page has been preserved as a result of an earlier debate and should be retained rather than deleted. Can you adjust that omission once I recreate the Talk page, please. It seems strange to see a Talk page with no associated article; it leaves open the possibility that another admin will delete it as a G8 case too. Regards, (aeropagitica) 09:31, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Shared IP's

I noticed that you had blocked 63.3.1.129 from editing wikipedia on May 20, 2007. If you are interested in whether the shared IP makes a difference as far as vandalism goes, you might look at the edits that were made with the other IP numbers this person uses. 63.3.69.136 - 63.3.69.133 - 63.3.69.6 - 63.3.1.1 You will see that he/she edits Linda Ronstadt frequently from each IP address, and has made numerous vandalizing edits from each of the IP addresses listed. I don't know if this makes a difference, but hopefully it will shed a bit of light on this problem. I'm not trying to start any trouble... Just merely pointing out the obvious. Let me know what you think... --Candy156sweet 03:49, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Bluejam.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Bluejam.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Misplaced Pages:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Misplaced Pages:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 09:46, 29 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 09:46, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Reference link

How do we make it so that the text we wrote can link to the reference spot witht he little number on top?--Rws killer2 16:56, 12 August 2007 (UTC) Also, how do we import an image?--Rws killer2 17:06, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

First question; you need to read Misplaced Pages:References to understand the different styles of referencing that are permitted on this Misplaced Pages.
Second question; you need to read Misplaced Pages:Uploading images. When you have read this, click on 'Upload file' on the bottom of the menu on the left-hand side of the page and follow the instructions. I would also consider uploading images to Commons in order that they can be shared amongst the other Wikimedia projects with the same GFDL licence rather than uploading the same image to each database separately. Sinai 48

I just placed a coi tag on Sinai 48 since it seems to have been created by one of the band members. However looking at the history (it's been here several months) I'm wondering if the tag was unnecessary. Should it be there or no? -WarthogDemon 23:16, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

I would be tempted to mark it {{db-band}} from looking at the sentence; "Sinai 48 first formed in 2006 and have recorded one album to date that is expected to be released in the Spring of 2007." If not that then maybe an AfD. There would also be a conflict of interest if the band members were writing about the band. If they are notable enough to have an article on Misplaced Pages then there will be contributors to said article other than themselves. (aeropagitica) 23:21, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Consider it afdified. -WarthogDemon 23:24, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

There might be an issue in that the band has notable members such as Lindsay Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac but their lack of album releases makes this an equivocal matter for me, so the AfD will clear up the consensus viewpoint. (aeropagitica) 23:30, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Should I add them too? I already added Tom Moncrieff unless I should take him off. -WarthogDemon 23:32, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

I wouldn't put either Buckingham or Fleetwood Mac up for AfD as they are both notable entities under WP:Music and WP:BIO. Buckingham's band is equivocal as he is notable but the band hasn't released anything of note. Buckingham himself in unequivocal in my opinion, referring to the above criteria. (aeropagitica) 23:40, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks.

Thank you for answering my questions. --Kenneth M Burke 00:53, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

A present for you

Hello Aeropagitica, I have made a little something for you to display your barnstars on your userpage. (The code is really long, so I won't post it here.) If you want to use it, please tell me, and I can make a subpage for you or whatever. If you don't, that's fine. Anyways, happy editing! Neranei (talk) 22:59, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

No one hands out barnstars to me, so the gift is redundant. Cheers anyway. (aeropagitica) 23:38, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Actually, I beg to differ. I went and dug through your archives, and found 5 barnstars. If you still want it, here's what it'll look like.

Anyways, you don't have to use it, but I thought you'd like to know you've had barnstars. :) Cheers, Neranei (talk) 23:50, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Page move question

As the subject tag indicates, I have a question about a page move. This article Rider ericsson was just created within the last 10 minutes or so, but it has been titled incorrectly. The name of the company is Rider-Ericsson, with the hyphen and a capital e on Ericsson. I was going to move the page to Rider-Ericsson and be done with it, but wondered if Rider-Ericsson Engine Company might not be more appropriate. Any thoughts? What is the standard on Misplaced Pages, 'cause I simply do not know. Thanks for your time. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 04:46, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

The guideline for redirecting in the article space is located at Misplaced Pages:Redirect. I would suggest using the correct name for the article proper and popular-but-incorrect names for the redirect articles, including poor case usage and lack of hyphenation. Regards, (aeropagitica) 04:51, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for the advice. No need for any further redirects, as the only pages that link are your talk page and mine. Thanks again. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 04:56, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

User:Star500

I didn't mean to bother you, but can you monitor or block indef this user that has been inactive since 2006? Thanks! $my money$ 7 October 2007 (UTC)

I need to bring up User:InventDa behavior. I've posted a query on both his talk page, but received no reply. I've posted to ANI , and was told not to worry. He posted a message on the talk page for User Talk:Star500 asking that the user respond by October 18, and within five minutes, decided that he waited long enough . I'm not sure what the precedent for demanding that inactive accounts be closed, but I find User:InventDa to be heavy-handed and bordering on uncivil in their actions Yngvarr (t) (c) 18:24, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
I should totally think this user (InventDa) has to be blocked for vandalizm to Misplaced Pages? Do you think so? @Wikipedian@ 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Inactive accounts are not deleted. Admins don't have the power to do this anyway. There is no requirement or precedent for indef-blocking someone who hasn't breached the vandal guidelines or been active for more than a year. Uncivil comments are not in themselves a reason for blocking editing rights to Misplaced Pages. They may be grounds for a warning about behaving properly and respectfully towards other editors and admins, however. Each case is judged on its own merits. (aeropagitica) 21:49, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
No, i'm talking about InventDa being blocked, not the inactive user. @Wikipedian@ 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Actually, InventDa's signature is a little misleading, as it's not his name . He's the original poster in this thread. When I saw his edits, and then saw him posting here, I figured I'd try to talk to you, so I posted about InventDa directly below. His actions makes me raise an eyebrow. I'm not necessarily talking about blocking, but someone should speak with this user. I've tried, but he (?) basically ignored my message, and doesn't seem interested in dialogue. ((and there's some spacing issues on this thread, too, which I'll deal with, for clarity, as I don't think that is considered bad form) Yngvarr (t) (c) 23:24, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Hmmm, this is a little confusing but from the looks of the diffs provided then this InventDa editor could do with some user education. Perhaps a mentor or to allow himself to be adopted. That won't be more, more's the pity, as I currently have an ongoing off-wikipedia project that takes too much of my screen time away from this project. (aeropagitica) 22:29, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article St Mungo's Primary School, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not" and Misplaced Pages's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of the page. B. Bears-Vikings Rivalry

I was quickly wondering why the page Bears-Vikings Rivalry doesn't show up on the results even when I type in the exact name. I have to link to it on another page. If I type in the words "Bears-Vikings Rivalry" in the search then it should come up, or at least show on the search results. Thanks, 76.239.6.39 (talk) 02:44, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Glosa

Recently the Glosa page was recognised as violating copyright laws. Since then it has been modified and a temp page has been created. Could you please move the temp page to become the new article and get rid of the notice? It detracts from the usefulness of the article (I think it discourages from the appeal if the reader might not want to actually read it), so the sooner it is removed, the better. Thank you.  :) 98.27.171.83 (talk) 04:53, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Image:Fall to pieces single.jpg listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Fall to pieces single.jpg, has been listed at Misplaced Pages:Images and media for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Fall to pieces single.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Fall to pieces single.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 21:47, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Template:ENT Navigation (Season 3)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Clarence dvd.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Clarence dvd.jpg.

Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 21:25, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

IP address

Sorry to bother you, but I have a problem. I work in it.wiki daily, and sometimes I use to edit some pages (usually manga/anime related) without problems. Anyway, when I saw my edit page for the first time I notice that there were edits I didn't make. I know it's a common problem, but I got warned for things I didn't do. Now, here is my question: if I create an account will I solve this problem? I don't know a lot about IP address and technical stuff like this. I don't want to create an account if people using the same IP address as me will keep editing pages, because people will probably think that's me working offline. Thank you for your time and sorry (again) to bother you. --85.18.136.105 (talk) 20:26, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Yes, creating an account will save you from receiving warnings left at a common logon IP address that were left for other anonymous users. It is worth creating an account for auditing purposes and for recognition of your contributions to the project. Regards, (aeropagitica) 17:08, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Vandal

Hello, I am a good faith contributor to Misplaced Pages and recently I ran across a familiar face. User:Iznican was a bad faith user on two Wikia Wikis I contribute to, and he was a vandal and has since been banned indefinitely on both. Recently he came across Misplaced Pages and he has already started vandalizing pages by adding fan fiction to lists on Misplaced Pages and by making a personal attack directed at me; see this for proof, where he calls me a beaner since I was the administrator who banned him. Therefore I am just letting you know that he is bad news and is not a good user, and he should not make personal attacks, although he already has made (a racist one) towards me. Thank you for your time. --Squishy Vic discussion 23:42, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:The_magnificent_evans_dvd.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:The_magnificent_evans_dvd.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Misplaced Pages articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Misplaced Pages:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 22:04, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Please see revision history of the CIA page here, we've reverted his additions as per clear example of WP:QS over the past 3 days, but he refuses to talk about it, and only keeps adding the information back on.

Also, I'm wondering if we can get this page protected, or at least semi-protected, we have not had a meaningful edit from an IP user in a very long time, and constant vandalism and overly clear WP:QS edits. Any help would be much appreciated. (Morethan3words (talk) 12:00, 29 July 2008 (UTC))

Speedy deletion of Crab Smasher

A tag has been placed on Crab Smasher, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Speedy deletion of Magic Time Machine

A tag has been placed on Magic Time Machine requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

I would like to thank you for being the first person to shatter my illusions about Misplaced Pages, or rather the small minds of the people that run it.

In June 1996 you deleted jad (decompiler) (JAD (JAva Decompiler) is still there), but failed to give a reasoned explanation or discuss. You are not alone, Least distance of distinct vision was proposed deleted in 1997, OMA Device Management and 16:10 in 1998. In my humble opinion deleting knowledge is a crime, a symptom of a system past its prime.

Please will you try and encourage the people managing Misplaced Pages to come up with constructive contributions to build up the confidence of contributors in your own abilities. Saying 'no' or refusing to explain why achieves the opposite.

Approval from your peers means nothing if those who support you (the contributors) remain disappointed. Remember Bush was liked by his friends, but Obama is a man of the people and is the greater of the two as a result.

page protection

Hello my name is Duncan Edwards one of the pages that i have created has been deleted numerous times. it has been marked as vandalism and such of the sort. It is not. The article is on Coffeeism it is a starting religion. The religion started almost a year ago but I have just started making it public. The Coffeeist religion has a website at www.coffeeism.webs.com, I started putting the information about the religion on Misplaced Pages about a month ago but it keeps being deleted for no reason. i would like you or one of the other adminastrators to make my article safe from deletion. Coffeeism (talk) 15:45, 14 March 2009 (UTC)Duncan Edwards

You really do need to read Misplaced Pages:Your first article. A religion that you are attempting to start yourself shows an entirely subjective bias for a start. To have an article survive on Misplaced Pages, it needs to be about a subject that is notable, well-referenced and with reliable sources. If your article is missing any of these then it will more-than-likely be recommended for deletion. Notability as a quality may not be conferred upon a subject by its creator. It is usually generated by the interest that others take in a person, process, event, item, phenomenon, etc. If your religion becomes established and is written up in sociological texts or comparative religion journals then it may be deemed notable. Even then, as the creator I would stay away from Misplaced Pages and let others create the article. (aeropagitica) 01:01, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

about bio page

i do not want to add any bio page about myself, but in my wiki user editor page http://en.wikipedia.org/User:Joaoleitao i somehow clicked on the editing page. sorry, so yes my page of my person can be deleted, actually theres nothing on it. sorry just a mouse mistake.

Hello! As per your request, I have deleted your userpage. It can be retrieved if you feel that at some later date you would like to present information about yourself to the user community. Regards, (aeropagitica) 11:17, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

why?

greetings,

i think you misunderstood me. i didnt ask for you to delete my userpage??? why? that is my user page for wiki, not my bio page as celebrity. look, my http://en.wikipedia.org/User:Joaoleitao is not http://en.wikipedia.org/Joaoleitao (THIS ONE I CLICKED BY MISTAKE)... so one is use wiki page where i present myself as portuguese wikipedian contributer (USER PAGE NOT TO BE DELETED) and the other one is a wiki page as if im a celebrity or something (YES DELETE). so, you just deleted the wrong page. i mean have you read my user page? i think you misunderstood me or probably you didnt understand the concept of wiki userpage which i dont think you did.

please, my user page back... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Joaoleitao (talkcontribs) 18:54, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

If there was a misunderstanding, it is because your request was not stated clearly. I can restore your userpage easily. Request to participate in University of Washington survey on tool to quickly understand Wikipedians’ reputations

Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington. In April, we met with some local Wikipedians to learn what they would like to know about other editors’ history and activities (within Misplaced Pages) when interacting with them on talk pages. The goal of those sessions was to gather feedback to help design an embedded application that could quickly communicate useful information about other Wikipedians. We have now created a few images that we feel represent some of what our participants thought was important. We would appreciate it if you took a few minutes of your time to complete an online survey that investigates whether or not these images would be useful to you. Your quick contribution would be very valuable to our research group and ultimately to Misplaced Pages. (When finished, the code for this application will be given over to the Misplaced Pages community to use and/or adjust as they see fit.)

Willing to spend a few minutes taking our survey? Click this link.

Please feel free to share the link with other Wikipedians. The more feedback, the better! The survey is completely anonymous and takes less than 10 minutes to complete. All data is used for university research purposes only.

Thank you for your time! If you have any questions about our research or research group, please visit our user page. Commprac01 (talk) 20:40, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as lover of Muhammad

Enemies of Ahmadiyya are doing personal attacks on the personality of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. The parties of Seal of Prophets are doing these personal attacks and I want that the world should know how much love Mirza Ghulam Ahmad had for Muhammad. This article is an information that everyone should see that how much he had love for Muhammad in his writings. A question about rules of userboxes in Wiki

Hi dear adminstrator, I am a user in Persian Wiki and I have an on going discussion with a Persian adminstrator about the userboxes we can create or not in Wiki. The question is: Is making userboxes like: "This user supports independence of Tibet from China" or "This user supports independence of Azerbaijan from Iran" or "This user is against Hizbullah terorist group." illegal according to Wiki userbox rules or not? R these rules same in all Wikis or different from one Wiki to another? I'm waiting 4 ur answer a.s.a.p. Regards, Pournick (talk) 04:00, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Admin Coaching: Reconfirmation

I was looking through the coaches at Misplaced Pages:Admin_coaching/Status and saw that there are a lot under "reconfirmation".

Could you let me know if you are still interesting in being involved with Admin Coaching, or if you would prefer to have your name removed from the "reconfirmation" list. If you want to be involved, could you please move your entry from "Reconfirmation" to "Active" and indicate how many students you would be willing to have (obviously, if you are actively coaching at the moment, then please indicate this!)

If I do not hear from you within a week, I will assume that you would like to have your name removed from the list of coaches.

Survey on quality control policies

As part of a project funded by the European Commission (QLectives), we are collecting and analysing data to study quality control mechanisms and inclusion/deletion policies in Misplaced Pages. According to our records, you participated in a large number of AfD. We are currently soliciting editors with a long record of participation in AfD discussions to send us their feedback via a very informal survey.

The survey takes less than 5 minutes and is available at this URL. Should you have any questions about this project, feel free to get in touch.

Thanks for your help! --DarTar (talk) 10:40, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

Dan Nichols

Dear aeropagitica -

I recently nominated an article for deletion Dan Nichols - but when attempting to create a discussion page I found that there was already a discussion page archived and it was noted that no further edits should be made to the archived discussion page. Since I see you have previously edited the discussion I wanted to ask your advice on what the next step should be? Thanks in advance for any assistance. Etrangere (talk) 18:23, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

In that case the AfD would be entitled 'Dan Nicholls (2nd nomination). The case for deletion needs to take in to account the reasons for the first deletion - is this person notable and are the citations for notability from authoritative sources? If you have evidence to build such a case then go ahead and nominate for discussion. (aeropagitica) 10:17, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the insight. I suppose my next question is: How do I nominate for discussion? I've placed the nomination for deletion tag above the article. Is there something else that I need to do?

Thanks again.

This is courtesy information for you. I see that in 2006 you deleted a page named "Adobe Walls, Texas", and that it was a Redirect page. What currently exists on Misplaced Pages is the first and second battles of Adobe Walls. I am in the process of creating a page for the ghost town named "Adobe Walls, Texas" which is now on private land and part of the National Register of Historic Places.NHRP-Adobe Walls I am also going to change the current Adobe Walls that redirects to the battles, to a disambiguation page listing the battles, and the new page of Adobe Walls, Texas. Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.

For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:22, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Qualys

Hi,

I saw the Qualys article and was wondering about its respect of wikipedia principles. I went to the discussion page and discovered it had been deleted. I saw this: Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Qualys

Does it mean that you deleted the discussion page and not the main page, or that the page was created again after your deletion?

Cheers

Invitation to take part in Misplaced Pages research

Hello,

I am doing research on Misplaced Pages in multiple languages to see how different Misplaced Pages websites enable people differently to act and contribute in their ways. A brief description of the study can be found on our project page on Meta-Wiki. The results would give guidelines for further development of Misplaced Pages in less developed languages.

As an active member of Misplaced Pages community, you are invited to take part in the study and share your experience about and understanding of Misplaced Pages with us. It would take 30 to 60 minutes of your time to have an online conversation about Misplaced Pages. I would be delighted to hear any of your ideas or feedback about the study. Please feel free to contact me with your questions and concerns related to this study and your participation. You can also find the email address on the project page.--WikiTafa (talk) 02:21, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

MSU Interview

Dear aeropagitica,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Misplaced Pages administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 04:00, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Starting an article . . .

Hello --

I have attempted to start an article named Stephen Nowlin. I am Stephen Nowlin, and I surmise from the obstacles I've encountered that autobiographical articles are viewed by Misplaced Pages with some suspicion and some hurdles meant to filter out those attempts not meeting Misplaced Pages's standards of "notability." I think I may be sufficiently notable, but in either case need advice on how to proceed or not.

I am a curator of contemporary art who forges collaborations superimposing art and science. I am Vice President, Director of the Williamson Gallery at Art Center College of Design, an internationally-known private college located in Pasadena, California. My work has been verified by numerous independent publications including the Los Angeles Times, ARTnews Magazine, and publications and journals by universities such as Caltech and Claremont Graduate University. I am also an author of essays on the so-called international "ArtScience" movement that have been featured in independently published media. A Google index of links to various such sources is located at http://williamsongallery.net/google .

From reading your various guidelines, it is unclear to me if meeting the threshold of notability is adequate to move forward in the process of creating an article about myself, or whether an article describing my own work is absolutely prohibited, even if the subject is deemed notable. Could you please clarify?

I will appreciate any advice you can provide.

Many thanks, Stephen Nowlin

ArtSciProject (talk) 00:57, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

Hullo! WP:AUTO refers. Autobiographical articles are strongly discouraged on Misplaced Pages because most people are strongly invested in their own lives and biased toward themselves. This makes it very hard to be neutral and objective when writing about the subject. Most autobiographies contain a positive bias, original research and are written from a specific point of view. None of these things are in accord with Misplaced Pages's aim to present information in a neutral and objective manner. If you are a notable person then an article will be created about you by a third party. If that article is inaccurate, you can correct it via the help desk - don't attempt to do so yourself! Please also remember that it is open to being edited by anyone at any time - the article may be about you but it does not belong to you. I can really only encourage you to live your life in the best way that you can. In doing so, you may become notable and then the subject of an article at Misplaced Pages. Focussing on a fulfilling life is far better than attempting to create an autobiographical article. (aeropagitica) 15:55, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

==Who is being honored?== I am not new to Misplaced Pages. I am new under Writt1. I could not get my old user name to work. I have created at least four pages in the past. Dozens of people have added to those pages and they have tripled in length. This is the first time I have encountered difficulty. There are hurdles apparently now that were not there before. I am attempting to create a page for Howard D. Woodson. A high school in D.C. is named for him. The school website poses a question on the face page, "Who was Howard Woodson?" People want to know. I am a published author in Woodson family history. I know. I started to create the page today. Now a note indicates that the page was deleted. It does not give a date for the deletion. Was my draft deleted or was a previous submission deleted and a block placed on the subject name? Or is my draft somewhere that I can not find? I thought I was in the draft stage. I had added 3 footnotes. One was from the Washington Post about the high school and another was contemporary to Woodson's early life. What's next? If there is a response to this I don't know where to find it. My email address is bwritt1@gmail.com. Writt1 (talk) 16:30, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

Information icon Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in more than one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Misplaced Pages:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three-year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three-year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Why was page "Daniel Evan Weiss" deleted?

Hi. I was looking up "Daniel Evan Weiss", an American author ("Honk If You Love Aphrodite", "The Roaches Have No King"). I notice you deleted the corresponding page on 12 October 2006. Do you remember why? Is it possible to restore the content of that page, whatever it was? Thanks. Ms.wiki.us (talk) 09:57, 13 September 2015 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Vandalism

For a very long time, I have been flicking through Misplaced Pages, finding information for my homework and I'm finding many pages with vandalized content on it. For e.g. I have seen: pages have been deleted; grammar been purposely incorrect and many other things. If you could check with those magic powers of the administrator, may you fix all (or at least some) of the vandalism? I can help you do some of it but with my work, not all.

Regards,

Please Provide Insight!

When trying to create my first ever article as a Wikipedian, I was prompted with a notice stating I needed to contact an administrator because the title had something funky about it. The prompt also stated I should copy and paste the exact article's draft title (which you can observe below). Also, stating that if I explained what I was writing about briefly perhaps an administrator would be able to grant me permission?

View source for Draft:Christopher Joseph Attardi: Entrepreneur. International Athlete. Global Change Maker. Humanitarian. Education Activist.

I am writing a biography on a man whom an inexplicable amount of people find to be noteworthy. If you ask most, they'll tell you his life should be made in to a movie. He's lived more in twenty-six years than most have an entire lifetime. His name is Christopher Joseph Attardi, as one can probably tell from the article's title. The man leads an extraordinary lifestyle. After playing international sports his whole life growing up, he utilized that with his passion for always doing the right thing, to start a movement which helps hundreds of millions of homeless people eat and survive on a daily basis. Aside from being an all-star athlete and a serial entrepreneur, Chris is a family man as well! He loves animals, and he loves people...everyone knows that about him! In fact, he was voted, "Most Friendly" in his high school yearbook. When he's not working, or donating a great deal of his company's money to educational institutions around the globe, Chris is just a guy who loves taking photos and tearing up extreme sports! He leads a healthy lifestyle (mentally and physically), loves to snowboard, and somehow maintains the perfect balance between family, friends, colleagues, strangers, and everyone else alike. Christopher Joseph Attardi is famous around the Garden City, Long Island area of New York! Many people even know him in Manhattan as well, and across the united States! just ask around. Notorious on the soccer field and baseball field, his rise, his demise, his life changing self recognitions which led him to where he is today as a businessman, as a person, as a role model to others. And that has nothing to do with his acting and modeling career on the side. He utilizes professional sports teams, musicians and their ticket sales to feed the local homeless near a venue's area, while simultaneously helping give back to the community more so by purchasing said food at full shelf value from local small businesses as an attempt to maintain and perpetuate like-minded Mom&Pop entrepreneurs such as himself. It's over 134,000,000 people a year in case you were wondering. Yep, thats 134 million people a year this man helps, and there is nothing on the wikipedia site anywhere about him. So, I wanted to take the initiative to write something neutral, but nice on his behalf. Since no one else has. Oh the guy's also taught himself web design, has an online marketing background, mixed in with a hospitality degree, sales charm galore, and loves to travel the world!

I promise the article is not weird, or funky, or bad, or too biased in any way. Plus it will be edited multiple times regardless prior to it's submission, right? Thank you for your help! Have a great day!

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, (aeropagitica). This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Misplaced Pages:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:47, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi (aeropagitica).

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:46, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Inivitation to return

Hello, aeropagitica. I remember crossing paths in the very early days of my participation. I see that it has been at least ten years since you were truly active here. I would like to see you back. I think that people who worked hard and had the trust of the project during its period of most rapid growth remain uniquely valuable to the project. I've put together a page at Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Editor Retention/administrators that you may find helpful in re-engaging. If you are unable or uninterested in rejoining as an active contributor in the forseeable futre, I'd encourage you to consider resigning your adminship in acknowledgement of that (by posting a request at WP:BN). There is a growing level of concern in the community about people who have administrative rights but who do not intend to return.

Whatever you decide, thank you for everything you've done for the project.

Best regards,

Administrators must secure their accounts

The Arbitration Committee may require a new RfA if your account is compromised.

View additional information

Why have I received this message?
All administrators are receiving it.
What prompted you to send this message?
Recently, several Misplaced Pages admin accounts were compromised. The admin accounts were desysopped on an emergency basis. In the past, the Committee often resysopped admin accounts as a matter of course once the admin was back in control of their account. The committee has updated its guidelines. Admins may now be required to undergo a fresh Request for Adminship (RfA) after losing control of their account.
What do I need to do?
Only to follow the instructions in this message.
  1. Check that your password is unique (not reused across sites).
  2. Check that your password is strong (not simple or guessable).
  3. Enable Two-factor authentication (2FA), if you can, to create a second hurdle for attackers.
How can I find out more about two-factor authentication (2FA)?
You can find out more about 2FA at m:2FA.

This message was sent to all administrators following a recent motion. Thank you for your attention. For the Arbitration Committee, Cameron11598 02:23, 4 May 2019 (UTC) Template:Z152

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC) Template:Z83

Republic of Artsakh

Sword313 (talk) 04:49, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
