Every language project is completely independent and gets to set their own rules and has their own set of administrators - this means an administrator from the English Misplaced Pages would not be able to help you with a block on the Russian project I'm afraid. Are wiki guidelines subjective?

I've followed WP guidelines to the letter and continue to get denied on the following article: https://en.wikipedia.org/Draft:Alison_Morrow

Morrow has 2 Emmy awards and a Sigma Delta Chi award in journalism. And her work has been referenced in federal and state law reviews. I have 13 references in my article that are independent sources including the Emmy web sites and the SDC web sites and other major news outlets other than her own.

This biography checks more boxes than the guidelines indicate are required. This subject is far more notable than many of the biographies on WP. So what else has to happen to get this article published? Stocatta (talk) 13:42, 3 August 2021 (UTC)

@Stocatta: Welcome to the Teahouse. Have you read the comments (prefaced with  ) below the templated responses? There's also concern that you may be in an undisclosed paid relationship with Morrow or someone related, which is something you should clear up first; if you do have such a connection, please disclose it on your user page. When a reviewer has concerns over that, it usually also means that the draft isn't neutral in tone, and that it serves to promote the subject, which Misplaced Pages isn't interested in doing. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 14:41, 3 August 2021 (UTC)

I have no relationship to Alison Morrow. She came up as a guest on a podcast I listen to and I was very impressed with her story. She is well respected in her field. I've been editing occasional articles on WP for a little while and wanted to take a stab at writing an article. But I'm shocked at the difficulty in getting published since I based my wording and approach on dozens of other biographies that are far more esoteric than Morrow. So are you recommending that I indicate in my user page that I have no association with each article subject that I take on? Stocatta (talk) 06:05, 4 August 2021 (UTC)

I need more help determining where I'm supposed to state that I'm not affiliated with her or being paid by her. Isn't the first tenant of WP: "Assume good faith?" @Stocatta: You can state that you don't have a paid relationship with Morrow on the draft's talk page; I see you've done so already on your user talk page. You got tagged because the tone that was used wasn't encyclopedic, which causes reviewers to suspect the draft is written to promote.
since I based my wording and approach on dozens of other biographies I would make sure the other articles you're using are up to snuff, because they might not be good examples themselves. I sincerely appreciate your guidance on this matter. I hope I don't waste too much of your time. But I still don't get it. I had no more than a few adjectives in my original article. I looked through the list of featured articles and just grabbed a couple of biographies. I am aware of Henry W. Sawyer and while I appreciate his contributions, I find several adjectives in the article that are subjective in nature. Some of these references do not match the narrative in the article to the letter. I don't find them major enough to edit, and my article seemed no more egregious. I'm certain that if he were in his thirties today, I would get push back form the WP community about his notoriety. I've always been impressed with how well the collective efforts on WP add value to the process and benefit the public. Frankly, I'm shocked at how difficult it is to get a simple biography on-boarded so the collective wisdom can opine and develop it. I don't claim to be the best writer, but I know what the rules are supposed to be. I don't know how WP can develop its content if a small group of editors are able to keep content from coming into existence. I get that we don't want everyone writing articles on their own mothers, but the rules are clear and I followed them. Any problems with my style would be quickly caught by the broader community and adjusted. But keeping an influential and notable person like Morrow off this platform is simply absurd. She can make a call and get into an interview with anyone she wants. That doesn't happen if she's a nobody. I want to learn a more encyclopedic style but the subject of my article should be held to her own merits and not held back because I have a sentence that says she left the "grind" of the city. Who seriously thinks that "grind" is worthy of blocking an entire biography? That's rhetorical. I just don't understand the push back. There are a lot of factors at play, and the following are by no means an exhaustive list:

• Misplaced Pages has to be very careful about articles on living people, to the point that there's an entire policy on them. Claims must be reliably sourced and will be scrutinised, and if there's too many that aren't considered to be reliably sourced, the draft is not going to be considered for mainspace.
• The number of reviewers is overshadowed by the number of drafts that are submitted for review. A few weeks ago the backlog was backed up to the point that a draft might not be reviewed for half a year after submission. Time and effort is spent checking to see if drafts are up to encyclopedic standards, and a lot of the time they aren't, which leads to...
• Reviewing is, from what I've observed, a mostly thankless role. As everything everyone does on here is out of volunteerism, draft writers should do the best they can to make reviewers' lives easier. I watch a few draft reviewers' talk pages and they tend to be bombarded with messages from declined and rejected submitters, all of which nearly always have the same problem and solution, and many of which don't appear to have read Your first article. I will try my best not to presume the mental state of reviewers as a group, but the influx of subpar drafts can cause them to be incredibly sensitive to certain types of phrases. Is it possible that they may end up prejudicing an otherwise good article? Sure. But reviewers are less likely to spend energy on drafts that have promotional or other inappropriate language for an encyclopedia. It's like sending a cover letter or portfolio for a job in high demand: if it doesn't look professional, whoever's reviewing is probably going to chuck it without a second glance to give time and energy towards those that appear to have more effort put in.

I think the folks at Teahouse have made some edits to my article that make it more acceptable for acceptance. I think my references are solid. Hopefully the article will get approved. Stocatta, I've tried to find evidence that Morrow is notable, by checking the sources cited in the article. Nos. 1 and 11 are not independent, being based on interviews with her, and 9 and 10 don't mention her (2-8 give me "Access Denied" messages so I haven't been able to check them). I haven't tried to check the rest, but what I've seen, 0 of 4 sources providing evidence of notability, is not encouraging. Maproom (talk) 16:02, 3 August 2021 (UTC)

Reference 1 is from an environmental organization that selected her to join it. That isn't independent? References 2 through 7 are her work, not independent, but they verify that the work was done (just following every other biography I could find). Reference 8 through 10 are not her work, they are independent verification of the law that changed because of her. Reference 8 is a television report about the lawsuit that was triggered by her investigation. References 9 and 10 are links to the Center for Biological Diversity that brought the lawsuit and credited Morrow's work. They are independent and notable since they have their own WP page, right? Reference 8 has the CBD mentioning Morrow. References 9 and 10 are supporting the text and existence of the lawsuit. I thought I needed to prove everything in the article so I have subject matter references even if they aren't all referencing Morrow.

I don't know how you can get accessed denied on any of these links. I've confirmed them all.

I appreciate your assistance, but I still don't get it. Reference 11 is about Morrow, not by Morrow. Reference 12, 13, and 14 are the governing bodies reporting the award winners for the Emmy's and the SDC award. These awards were then repeated by every major news outlet, but we wouldn't want repetitive references, right? Reference 15 was about her running the Marine marathon while pregnant. (cool if not notable) References 17 through 21 are subject matter evidence for the controversy section. One was her report, and two were not her report but about her.

I thought we had to cite EVERY claim in addition to the biographical subject. So I have 22 references and 13 are not by or with her, but independent. I don't have any references that were not used elsewhere in other WP articles.

@Stocatta, it doesn't look like the sources prove this person is notable yet. The awards are all sourced to the awarding organizations -- if those were notable enough awards, they could be sourced to unaffiliated media. The controversy over demonetization doesn't seem to have been widely discussed anywhere, and it looks like all the pieces that are actually about her (rather than about endangered species) are redlinks.

Notability is the most important first question that needs to be answered about a candidate for an article. If you can't find at least three instances of significant coverage of the article subject in unaffiliated reliable sources (two of them outside her local area), you're wasting your time. —valereee (talk) 16:21, 3 August 2021 (UTC)

Stocatta, please disclose your relationship, if any, with the subject of your draft. You wrote Morrow left the grind of city living and corporate news to seek the great outdoors with her family. I checked the reference for that statement and it does not mention or allude to "grind" or "city living" or "corporate news" or "great outdoors". It says she lives in an Airstream trailer with her husband. That single sentence violates Misplaced Pages's three core content policies of verifiability, the neutral point of view and no original research. I'm new to this but your comments don't seem altogether helpful. Morrow did in fact leave the city and corporate news with her family to the outdoors. You are suggesting that "grind" is not an adequate impartial and frequently used adjective about bit city living and corporate work patterns? And the reference to "great" is a description of expanse. Somebody else removed the entire sentence but I think this is where the words add meaning and have not editorialized anything. And how can you say her leaving the news or leaving the city is not verifiable. You saw it yourself in the article. It is indeed a neutral point of view because I'm not implying that one is superior to the other. I have no relationship to Morrow. I've stated that above. I simply wanted to try writing a Misplaced Pages article and chose a personality that I saw online that has significant stature in her industry and didn't have a WP article yet. I thought this was the whole point of Misplaced Pages. And the first tenant on every talk page is "assume good faith". Why are you assuming nefarious intentions? Did I do something to deserve the accusation? I understand how the system works. I've been editing articles for a little while and simply wanted to take a shot at starting an article. This sort of issue could be hard to track down. I wouldn't have thought that news sites would have any issues. Is this sort of problem common? If so, how do we test sites to make sure they can be accessed by all? Stocatta (talk) 02:55, 5 August 2021 (UTC)

Easy access isn't a necessary condition for use of sources, per WP:SOURCEACCESS, though it's obviously preferable, Stocatta. In this case, it seems that accessing the pages via the Internet Archive works for me, so it might be worth adding links to archive copies to the citations. Aww, I was just browsing when I saw this. After reading the draft with it's rejections, looking around I found a video of the subject, on a site presumably made/edited/owned by the subject. Then others that are on Locals - a video hosting site. This video is one of interest - wikipedia-decides-if-youre-a-quack slamming Misplaced Pages? Well even so, that is not a barrier to having a bio on wiki, obviously its not helpful in light of current circumstances no matter how you slice it. Yeah I know impartiality rules. They also have current videos on YouTube where they're complaining about deplatforming alongside other videos slamming Misplaced Pages, again. They cover other subjects where faux outrage is employed. (redacted) the only problem preventing them from having a Misplaced Pages bio is a lack of notability. If you're in the US you would be aware, as of today there were over 100,000 NEW Covid infections reported. On Wednesday. And you Stocatta desire the addition of another non-notable, (redacted) person to the Misplaced Pages encyclopedia. I also say no, in part based on obfuscation posted to this talk page, but majorly due to sources lacking verifiability, a neutral point of view and no original research. You are obviously biased against the subject and that is not a healthy position as an editor of an encyclopedia platform. I can point to several characters on WP that I disagree, but it doesn't change the fact that they are notable. You make a broad, subjective and dangerous claim when you say the subject is an "opportunist who specializes in disinformation". If you think WP (or any platform) is beyond criticism, then you are an elitest and dangerous to the honest spread of information. You seem laser focused on this subject's allowance for free speech. You are ignoring her two Emmy awards and her SDC award. You ignore the hundreds of people that contribute to the decisions of those awarding bodies. You also ignore the dozens of legal decisions that Morrow's environmental investigations have helped shape. Her work literally stopped the State of Washington from killing hundreds of bears per year. I referenced that law suit in the article. But you would have all of that "notable" work swepted away because you disagree with her having guests that criticize big tech platforms. You are clearly not being impartial. I typically disagree with many environmental issues. I'm an American and I've never met the subject. This subject has accomplished things that are statistically rare, no matter how you slice your opinions. It is sad that you can't recognize that reality. Before attempting to exclude this subject from the "club of the worthy", I would ask you how many people have 3 major awards from entities in the class of the Emmy and SDC organizations. And then, how many of those people have directly influenced societal change via legal challenges. And finally, how many of those people don't already have WP articles? I'm just trying to give a notable person their due and document those accomplishments on a platform dedicated to that purpose. @Stocatta, Misplaced Pages doesn't make decisions on whether or not a subject is notable based on whether they've criticized Misplaced Pages, and @Missbellanash, it's not helpful to even discuss such criticism in this discussion. It doesn't matter, and we don't care, and the simple act of bringing any of that up here at Teahouse is problematic because it calls into question Misplaced Pages's neutrality. Please don't do that again. Whether a subject has criticized wikipedia has zero to do with their notability.

Thank you @Valereee. Can you help me with the guidelines a bit? I read the guidelines as anyone with a notable award would qualify. This subject has 2 Emmy awards and an SDC. The number of people with three major awards in Journalism is less than a few hundred. How many major awards must a subject earn before qualifying as "notable"? i am being targeted by an user

Hi , i am a new editor here in wikipedia by account but i have been editing from a long time with my ip address. recently i wanted some changes to be made on the topic bhumihar which is semi-locked and when i suggested my edits a user named <sup style="color:#80f;font:'Candara';" said that Misplaced Pages works on quality content and i needed to give my reference which when i gave beside of reading and then replying me he suggested that i should be blocked but the other editors did not agree with him. i am currently working working on narayan dynesty and i came across many pages of them with minor information so for the same and i took the paragraphs from the page narayan dynesty which i had edited and took me hours and used it there . this gave the user another chance for taking my work down he put the page on draft without even discussing with me . is it right yo remove work without even discussing and this user is targeting me please take some actions and help Gaurav 3894 (talk) 10:45, 4 August 2021 (UTC)

1. You are not a new user - you have been around long enough, also as an unregistered editor, to be aware that this project has its rules, policies and its own Manual of Style.
2. Your POV-pushing is tedious, you don't seem to understand that Misplaced Pages strives to present all the significant points of view as presented in reputable published sources. Several editors tried to reason with you at Talk:Bhumihar, to no avail.
3. Regretfully, you have been quite disruptive with your tedious edit requests containing similar statements and placed one after another under every possible heading at Talk:Bhumihar: and likely many of the previous IP edit requests with similar content.
4. You have copied text without attribution; Diannaa explained to you on your Talk that this cannot be done, and she draftified one of "your" articles; I did the same with another article consisting purely of text you copied from another article. Still you don't seem to understand.
5. I'm sorry but your English is at times below the level required for the mainspace. I told you twice to use proper punctuation and capitalisation, and you are still obviously unable to understand it, as seen in the above paragraph.

If you even have the slidest suspicion that other people use your nickname or ip-adress in wiki, perhaps it is wise to change your password every week. If this doesn't solve the problem, check on your harddisk any files that are used recently. Open these files with a editor. This could be a key monitor (all keys pressed on your keyboard are written here). Remove this key monitor writing page and replace it with a read-only computer file (copy of autoexec.bat). Then renew your password again and the problem should be solved. Check also for anti-virus or anti hacker software. Bengud (talk) 11:16, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

'Did You Know' nomination inappropriate

The composer Louis Andriessen sadly died a few weeks ago. Around the same time my article Theatre of the World was published. An editor then nominated it for DYK for a spurious reason. It would appear entirely disrespectful if WP used this on its front page. I've made my objection but I am uncertain what the status is. Hopefully editors will understand - this is very insensitive - but no acknowledgement in the DYK chat. Could someone advise me the status please? @Thelisteninghand: I think your comment got missed because you left it at the talk page rather than the nomination page. I've moved the comment and pinged the nominator and reviewer—that should generally be your first port of call, to get in touch with the users (by pinging or messaging on their talk page), rather than the Teahouse. As for the nomination, it was just hanging in limbo, not rejected (which is marked by the reviewer with ) and not accepted (marked with ). — Bilorv (talk) 16:01, 5 August 2021 (UTC)

Hello @Thelisteninghand! Someone has to approve it with a tick (like ) and then someone else will have to come and "Promote" it. Only then will it be moved to the queue for the mainpage. Then, sometime later, it will get published. Currently, even the first step, the tick, has not happened, so you do not need to panic. It could take weeks. You have commented and the discussion is ongoing; someone should try and address your concerns before it gets approved. It is a discussion for now, and you can participate, which you are doing. Misplaced Pages discussions are not live chat, so they can go very slow too.As to the specific, it seems like you are opposing describing the work as grotesque, and not the idea of DYK itself. But you say you oppose DYK or posting to mainpage which does not make sense to me. Editors improve articles about the people that they like when they have recently died, and try to get them to the mainpage, either in the DYK or the IN THE NEWS section, so that as many people as possible can find the article and read about their achievements, as a way to pay respects and celebrate their life. If you indeed object getting it to the mainpage altogether for some reason, you are unlikely to get your way.The half questions that start with "... that" are called hooks and they are what are proposed be published on main page. If you don't like a hook, you should explain why, and propose an alternative hook (another interesting fact from the article, written in the same format). You need to discuss it with them in a respectful manner; there is no alternative to that. Usedtobecool Thank you. The objection is a matter of sensitivity - so your guidance is very useful - the fact of the composers death might be "in the news' and that would seem right. Other info highlighted at this time would appear slightly strange to a reader I think. It's irritated me to such an extent in this instance - but I always thought it looked more like the cover of a puzzle mag than an encyclopedia. It's a kind of perversion of what we do with such dedication - WP has amazing things inside it but this format doesn't do that justice at all. It is tragic. imo. Links to Subscription only websites.

So my question and concern is this. I've been editing pages for about two years now and occasionally I'll run into the issue that a website I was going to use requires a subscription. There have also been times where I've clicked on reference links for other pages, and to read said article, one must have a subscription. With more websites requiring subscriptions (especially newspapers if you wish to read articles from older editions), what's the game plan for this issue? I'm only here because I'm not currently somewhere else. @Sportsfan1976, if I’m reading and interpreting this correctly then you are asking what to do if you come across a source which happens to be a website that requires a fee before accessing the whole article? If yes, then contained in WP:RS is a blanket answer which encourages us not to to disregard such sources, especially if they are a reliable source. The fee status or requirement is negligible. Journalists do not work for free. Readers and editors are free to purchase subscriptions to be able to read paywalled sources. This is a clash of cultures. The whole underlying philosophy of Misplaced Pages is that information is free. We can believe it ourselves, but we don't have the right to impose our viewpoint on the rest of the world. People who make a living by searching out information, screening its quality, and writing books and newspapers need to pay for their groceries, so they have a right to demand cash for their work. It doesn't make their work any the less reliable (in fact it probably makes it more reliable, because they can afford to spend some time doing it right; and people buy a newspaper because they think it's telling them accurate news). If we insist on our sources being free-to-read, we're likely to end up basing WP on a tiny zone squeezed between reliable pay-walled newspapers that we won't use and unreliable blogs that we daren't use. If we insist that everyone, everywhere, should have free access to any sources, then we exclude nearly all books, which is to say almost all written information up to the last couple of decades. The point of WP is that we have a lot of editors, each individually with access to a small subset of secondary sources, from which they can write referenced articles. This puts the general gist of these secondary sources into a free information sphere, and WP's readers, if they're sufficiently interested in the subject, can get hold of the sources for themselves, and look into things in more depth. Need a photo for a notable black female American judge BLP who is in the news in the US Senate just now

Eunice C. Lee, a notable black female American judge has a WP:BLP article, but no photo image. She is also currently nominated for a higher court position, and her nomination is before the US Senate. There is a discussion on the Talk page where I suggested that a WP:FAIRUSE image might be able to be used until a CC-licensed one is found. I'm pretty confident, actually, that a fair use exception will work, since she is obviously the subject of her BLP article.

I'm equally confident that I don't have the mad skillz to pull this off in a WP compliant way that would keep at the picture watching governance committee for images on WP at bay.

It's not possible to justify a fair use image of a living person (at least in this case). See WP:NFC#UUI. Meters (talk) 02:04, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

The assumption is that a free use picture can be taken, even if one does not currently exist, and thus no fair use exemption is possible. The issue is not invalid fair use or copyright violation, but that Misplaced Pages has stricter non-free content criteria than the U.S. legal minimum, and the first ("No free equivalent") is failed for a living person as a photo could be created. I'm assuming you've searched on Wikimedia Commons and Flickr for compatibly licensed images. If you can get in touch with Lee or one of her team then it is possible that they could get a photographer (NOT Lee herself—copyright is owned by the person who takes a photo) to release an image taken of her under a free license with the release generator. — Bilorv (talk) 12:24, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

The user suggested on the article's talk page that it would be acceptable to use a news coverage image until a properly licensed image could be obtained. Hlo few days before I edited a page of conent Bhoi, where there are some mistakes that they are lebeled as Untouchables or dalits which they are not.So after all I deleted the reservation and untouchable part but they restored repeateadly which they shouldn't.So all I wanna say plz don't publish there dalits or untouchable coz there ill be a big misunderstanding in the society. There, it will be essential that you provide references in support. Also, if you look there, you will see from earlier discussions that you are not alone in disputing the labeling of Bhoi as Untouchables. All changes to existing articles require verification with reliable source references. Repeating the same edits without making your point at Talk and reaching a consensus with other editors is called "edit warring', which will result in you being initially temporarily blocked from editing. Here, the nucleus consists of proton and neutron which are bonded together by nuclear energy acting on them. When we break the nucleus, the nuclear energy is released. Therefore, Einstein should have said that the nucleus of an atom when broken release a large amount of energy (currently called nuclear energy). It is performed in the process of nuclear fission or nuclear fusion. But here, no mass is getting converted to energy or, energy is converted to mass.

There's a whole essay on this topic! In a nutshell: If two reliable sources offer contradicting information on a subject and none of them can be demonstrated unreliable, then an article should cite both.

This is a source I used to make edits. As you can see, the source has a timeline of events. My edits were reverted and the Orlando Sentinel source was put back. I thought since the source I included had a more detailed timeline, then that would be the source to use to show the edits I made were correct. @PamD: & their recent edits

This editor has been helping me to improve my edits and I have taken all their advice and suggestions on board...Now they have picked faults with me over more articles and these last two months...constantly reverting and criticing me...I see them not going after to other editors and they go after just me. I feel this is WP:Hounding. I have tried to improve but all I keep getting is talk page after talk page tabs with you are removing old text which is been there for decades or you are making a mess of the pages and you should have your editing privileges taken away...I am getting tired of it...I just want to edit but they seem to stalk my page and revert more pages I edit then actually thank me for helpful contributions...as they have done for Leeds, Knutsford, South Willing railway station & Borough of Blackpool. Text gets changed a lot but they pick issues with me removing it but if another editor did it would not faze them...It claimed on Knutsford page it was a sought after place and its villages with no reliable sources and it is a dormintary town for people working in Liverpool and Manchester which had no source backing it. Chester, Stoke and Crewe are nearby and people work there too...so it is a stretch to claim people just work in the two cities mentioned...the Leeds was reverted by them over me adding the city of Leeds borough to the leeds and South Willingham page was a mess so I tried to fix it but it removed it so I assumed the photo had been deleted as couldn't find it on WIki commons but it eventually came back...so that was my fault but it needed looking at...

Nevertheless, I have some sympathy at Knutsford, where part of what you did was indeed removal of a completely unreferenced paragraph about how it's a desirable area (paragraph sounds like it was written by an estate agent) and a dormitory town. It would be better if both you and @PamD: discussed the issue at Knutsford's talk-page; that way, other editors have a chance to see what's going on, understand why the text is changing, and possibly find some references to back up the changes. That looked personal not constructive comment...I am not on here to score points but if I see old text with no sourcing and claims which I remove and then they are readded without reliable sources I will challenge it...Knutsford might be close to the cities of Liverpool and Manchester but it claimed people there work in the two cities...when other towns and cities are nearby so I challenged it claiming that it was a dormitary town and sought after and the villages around it. Nowhere confirmed it and it had been left unchallenged up until now...Same went with Penkridge with claims it is a market town when it never got town status and it is a village but it got challenged. Just a comment, she's probably not following you around deliberately. It's probably just that she looks back at her recent contributions to see what's happened since. I know I do. That means she's going to bump into your editing purely accidentally. Another thought: if you remove a sentence because you think it's unsourced, and someone else puts it back in, rather than removing it again (which sows the seeds for an edit war), put a citation needed tag on it {{cn}} and add a section to the talk page drawing attention to the reason why it needs to be referenced. You may be right that an article hasn't been seen by many editors, but creating a lot of activity around its talk page is one way to draw attention to it. If there is still argument, too few editors engaged, and no consensus, and you're not happy, you can make a request for comment, but if there isn't any talk-page discussion already visible, no one is going to know what they're supposed to be commenting about. Bibliography of Japanese history

I have some experience editing existing articles and have also created several articles. For a long time I have maintained a bibliography of Japanese history on a university website which can only be edited on campus. During the lockdown I have been unable to update it at all, and in any case I think it would be better to let other people update and edit it too, so I thought of putting it on Misplaced Pages, for I see that there are other bibliographies of national history to be found on Misplaced Pages. I have seen the Wikiproject pages on bibliographies. My bibliography is large and pretty comprehensive, and subdivided by periods and subdivided again by topic. Hi, Ty78ejui, welcome to the Teahouse. The error was because the note had been defined twice, what made it confusing was that it was defined on the template page itself rather than in the article. This error appeared because the article was defining an instance of Template:Efn which had the same name attribute as an identical note from Template:Kansas City weatherbox, which is transcluded onto the article. In looking at the comments on your draft article(not a "page"), one consistent theme is that the sources you offer(largely social media) are not acceptable for establishing that this person meets the special Misplaced Pages definition of a notable creative professional. A Misplaced Pages article must summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about the person, showing how they are notable. Misplaced Pages does not want to know what a person says about themselves, but what others unconnected with them choose to say about them. How to request another review of a re-written draft article (after initial rejection of draft)

Hello - I had written a draft article last year that was rejected and not moved to the Main Namespace. But I’ve now re-written and re-vamped the draft based on the feedback that I received.

I would like to have this new draft reviewed, but I don’t see a "Submit for Review" button.

I read that I can add Template:Substitute:submit to the top of the draft in order to submit it for review. Is this correct? I don’t want to move the revised draft to the Main Namespace without it being reviewed.

Alwayslp Hello and welcome to the Teahouse. If a draft is rejected, that means it will not be considered further- that's why you don't see a resubmit button. The reviewer rejected it because they felt the chances of improvement were low. @Jasmineeve: The photo would need to be uploaded to Misplaced Pages (or Wikimedia Commons if it's a free use image) before it can be displayed on Misplaced Pages. Misplaced Pages takes copyright very seriously - you can't just find a photo on a web page and use it on Misplaced Pages. See Help:Introduction to uploading images and Help:Pictures for more information. However, I suggest you focus on getting the draft approved before you worry about the photo. Happy editing! Yes, I think so. A precedent: Alfred Brendel discography (though please don't copy its copious use of boldface). There doesn't seem to be any consistency, though: not only is there no "Sviatoslav Richter discography", the matter is merely summarized briefly within the article Sviatoslav Richter. @Wordslicer: If you just have general questions then the best place to talk about editing is either the talk page of an article or a noticeboard like this one. If you need to message a specific user then you can leave a message for them on their talk page. If you need to contact someone with something privacy related or that you would rather not disclose publicly you can use Special:EmailUser to send them an email, you will need to have an email address attached to your account and this will disclose your email address to the other person, so be careful if you're privacy conscious and have an email address in your real name. There are also Misplaced Pages related groups on a lot of messaging services, like Discord or IRC. There should be clean-up templates indicating which sections of an article need work, for example if an article contains a statement that needs a source you should see somewhere in the article showing you what needs sourcing. @Wordslicer: The Task centre lists some helpful information in the "Fact checking" section. Category:Misplaced Pages articles with sourcing issues lists every article currently identified as having some kind of issue with citations, sorted into subcategories based on what the issue is, for example Category:All articles lacking sources lists all articles with no citations at all and is further sortable by topic. Before getting started you might also want to have a read of WP:referencing for beginners, which explains how to format a citation and explains what kind of sources are considered WP:Reliable. The only other pitfall to be aware of is that we have extra stringent requirements for medical topics (WP:MEDRS) and biographies of living or recently deceased people (WP:BLP). 192.76.8.91 (talk) 00:20, 7 August 2021 (UTC)

Identifying Project wide issues

I am wondering if Wikiprojects have some tool for identifying problem pages in their scope. This seems straightforward to me technically. You can identify pages that are in scope via the template in the Talk page. Then it is just a matter of looking for matches or non-matches against particular regular expressions. So we could look for the absence of "<ref" to see pages that have no footnotes. I was imagining some sort of template that could be transcluded in the Wikiproject page. @Jenhawk777: Here's one way to do it:

1. Open your user talk page in edit mode and copy the text you wish to move.
2. Open the article talk page and click New section. Paste the text you wish to move, note that you moved it from your user talk page, and save the page.
3. Back on your user talk page, you can delete the conversation and/or note that you moved it. Informing the original posted would be appropriate as well.

You can take care of the page history stuff by including links in your edit summaries. How long does it take for a page to get patrolled?

I'm not exactly a new Wikipedian, but I don't know how long the two articles I made recently, The Revolutionary Piano of Nicky Hopkins and Phuntsho Jigme, will stay non-patrolled. Hi Capsulecap, there are currently approximately 5000 new pages awaiting review. Most will be reviewed within 30 days by a patroller, however some may take substantially longer as pages may be reviewed in no particular order. In my opinion, both of these may be kicked back to draft. The first, because there is no elaboration about the music album other than it exists. The first ref confirms it contains a cover of Yesterday (along with mention of 49 other covers). The second is to a review of the album, so perhaps that can be used for more content. Perhaps some content about Nicky Hopkins can be sourced from that article (with attribution), so as to place it in the chronology of his career. The other article is a quasi=standard sports stub, so that might pass. My understanding is that if articles are not patrolled within 90 days, those enter the searchable world. Your draft just tells about this person and what they have done. Misplaced Pages articles must do more, they must summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about this person, showing how they meet the special Misplaced Pages definition of a notable person. At least some of the sources you offer seem to be basic announcements or press release-type articles, which do not establish notability. Issues regarding updating articles on Misplaced Pages

Hi, i just like to say first that i have enjoyed editing and updating articles on Misplaced Pages for the past week that I officially joined as a wikipedian on August 1.

However, I am having arguments with a user with regards to "technicality issues" on updating articles. The issue he raised is on this page/section. I am quoting the relevant portions here for ease of reading:

Yes, i am aware of wikipedia's citation requirement when inputting data. It is not forgotten but the quantity of data being added is staggering. Additionally, if you have checked most NOC olympics pages, nobody is inputting their scores with citation at the moment. If you’re aware of our citation requirements and purposefully ignoring them in BLP contexts then you’re being actively disruptive, theres no excuse for that. Misplaced Pages is not a news station and there is no requirement to provide up-to-the minute updates, particularly without a source. Please check the contributions pages for Japan, United States and Russia(ROC) as examples(FYI, The other countries pages are also the same). As a new wikipedian, my first exemplar will be to follow what other wikipedians here are doing. I have no idea that what they are doing(i.e. updating articles without citation) is incorrect. While I understand it now, I wish to add that I did all these with the best of intentions and no malice was intended nor did I intended to lie.

Atom105, in this context, "everyone" means 100% of the editors working on Olympic articles. Looking at your links, I see some editors reverting unreferenced content, so "everyone" is incorrect. Your exemplar should not be the behavior of over-enthusiastic fan editors during the Olympics. It should be our policies and guidelines, and the behavior of highly experienced editors over the years. I have contributed to the biographies of a few Olympic athletes, and I always provide references. So should you. The most relevant policy is Verifiability, a core content policy. I have also updated individual athlete's pages during the Olympics and those are done properly with Citation at the point of edit such as my entry on Teddy_Vlock. Editing query

Hey Misplaced Pages! To give you some background, my friends and I were working on a college sociology journal assignment/project these past few months and decided to submit new article drafts on the topics when doing our project which we found met a lot of Misplaced Pages's notability criteria but were lacking articles on Misplaced Pages. For some detailed context, you can read the history of our chat with one of the AfC reviewers of some of our drafts here: User_talk:Nomadicghumakkad#Hello!

TLDR; my friends decided to move on with working on our real life college project, as they felt our initiative on Misplaced Pages editing wasn't positively met. However, I am interested in editing and making contributions to Misplaced Pages and so I've made this account finally. I'm interested in the field of the city my Uni is in and where I stay presently (Pune) and the historical or current notable persons, organizations, events and such of this place (which my classmates and me, being a mix of sociology/history/economics/business majors, had decided to work on as a group initially, because we had access thru our uni library to those rare sources and inaccessible books about those topics of this city/state, with most unfortunately being in print and in Marathi).

I wanted to ask you experienced editors if it is ok for me to continue to do this now on my own or will that lead to a bias violation of some sort since I'm passionate about editing in such a relatively small niche? Of course, I hope to keep my submissions thorough, with good, reliable sources (happy to link you to one of our current draft submissions which I worked on in translating one of the sources to cite the article, to prove my point) and I have learned a lot about NPOV from some of our earlier drafts being declined for that reason and I have worked on solving that issue on all our drafts ever since.

As stated in our discussion linked above, my friends and I had no COI with the topics but it came across as such because we didn't paraphrase and summarize the sources properly (coming across as non-neutral), and also maybe because the sources were pretty similar in nature for the articles we began with because the topics of the articles themselves were so interconnected (given that we were interested in submitting biographies and organizations, which are quite tricky to get right on Misplaced Pages, as we have come to learn).

I'm super excited to get to work on these niche interests by myself with my new account, especially when I'm autoconfirmed so I don't burden the AfC backlog. But as stated in our discussion on the above reviewer's talk page, my friends and I (with me now editing alone) have absolutely no stake in any of these bios, orgs, events, personal histories etc. having Misplaced Pages entries. So I won't contribute further to this little passion project and am happy to abandon/delete the created/submitted drafts if in case I'm breaking any Misplaced Pages laws. Please guide me regarding these doubts. Thanks!

- I've written an article about my family surname - https://en.wikipedia.org/Draft:Climaco_Family in which I have some formal academic evidence, e.g. the coat of arms issue by the "Cronista Rey de Armas" and some anecdotal, e.g. made by a third party Heraldry Institute, both referenced in my article.

I would like to know what exactly to change so I can have it published, please?

It is unrealistic to expect someone else will be interested in writing about my family if not a member of the family itself because we are not a celebrity family neither high royalty but simply a Spanish family which has some knighthood roots, hence the coat of arms and I would like to have that published in the Misplaced Pages for public consulting.

This feels wrong, but I'm not certain. If this phrasing is violating guidelines, what guidelines is it violating? The citation goes to an unviewable source.

Without context (which you have not provided) the sentence contains a weasel word ("often"), a vague undefined term ("media") and a suggestion of a conspiracy theory ("intentionally kept hidden" by mysterious unidentified entities). By itself, it wouldn't be acceptable to present in Misplaced Pages's narrative voice. With context, it may be a different story. To put it another way, Misplaced Pages is interested in what others completely unaffiliated with you choose to say about you, not what you want to say about yourself. As noted, autobiographical articles(which includes if you represent Don Gee) are strongly discouraged, as people naturally write favorably about themselves. The best way for you to "appear on wiki" is to allow independent editors to take note of your career in reliable sources and choose on their own to write about you. Article not appearing on google

To merge or not to merge

I'm considering merging Enhanced podcast into Podcast and wanted some input. I think Enhanced podcast passes WP:N and could continue to exist as a stand-alone article, but WP:MERGEREASON suggests that smaller topics should sometimes be merged into broader parent topics and I don't think the article will ever be much bigger than a stub. I didn't open a merge discussion because the article and the podcasting wikiproject get so little traffic that I don't think I would've gotten any input.

I was also curious what other editors thought of the sources. A lot of them seem to be promoting software used to create enhanced podcasts. Does that make those sources unreliable or non-independent because they have a vested interest in the use of the medium? Should those sources be removed or should the conflict of interest be mentioned in the article itself? TipsyElephant (talk) 02:37, 8 August 2021 (UTC)

Would there be any issues with copyright if I take an article from a different language Misplaced Pages (that does not yet exist here), translate it into English, and then add it to the English Misplaced Pages? Since the text would not be originally written by me but instead translated from text that was written by multiple editors on the source Wiki, how can I properly attribute that? Additionally, is it alright if the sources, even if reliable, are in another language/the language of the source, or does at least one/a few have to be in English since this is the English Misplaced Pages? I wish you well, StarryNightSky11, but remember that success in this isn't merely a function of (i) whether/when one did something stupid oneself, and (ii) how vigorous one has been in reverting/combatting others' stupidities. Among other strengths, you really need a good understanding of Misplaced Pages or at least an awareness of the limits to your understanding. Here's a recent edit summary of yours: "infobox added, all other articles about real people have one so why shouldn't this". Not true: Plenty of articles about real people don't have one. And the reason isn't just editorial laziness. As just one example, Adolfo Farsari is a featured article about a real person that doesn't have one. It takes much time, effort, and practice. You greatly increase your chances of success if you first spend much time editing existing articles in areas that interest you, to get a feel for how Misplaced Pages operates and what is expected of article content. Using the new user tutorial helps as well. Diving right in to article creation can lead to disappointment, frustration, and hurt feelings as your work that you spend hours on is mercilessly edited and deleted by others, often for reasons that an inexperienced user doesn't understand. For that reason, I strongly advise you to edit existing articles first.

I think they have to be blocked from editing. Some users added insulting information about Bullying of that athlete in his childhood. They also mentioned the name by which bullies use to insult him. Hello! I'm sure you can tell that I'm new here. For the past day, I've been trying to create a wiki page for my programming language. This programming language is still in a very early development stage, so there's not that much information to put in the article at the moment. I've put all the information about this programming language that I know won't change any time soon. I've made sure to reference my codebase and GitHub pages, and I did use the GitHub API to get an accurate date for the first appearance of my programming language. And I'm the creator of this language. What am I doing wrong in this page exactly? Can someone explain more to me?

Second, you have no valid references. Confirming something exists (your programming language) does zero toward Misplaced Pages's concept of notability. Not until people completely unconnected to you or the company are publishing articles about the language, could this be considered as a topic for an article. (Misplaced Pages does not have "pages".) WP:TOOSOON clearly applies.

How to handle a not-properly-copyright logo at German WP, can we use low-res version here?

Background: It's always a bad idea to look at AfD. @Possibly: has successfully convinced me in an AfD discussion that Bruno Bergner, a German graphic artist responsible for the advertising materials of a former German petrol chain, isn't notable in himself. Bergner's article is too long and detailed given that there's only one decent source, but it'd be a pity to lose everything. The logical thing to do is to merge into an article on the petrol chain for which he worked, only we don't have an article. So I'm doomed to translating the German article so I can add the short sentence that Bergner does deserve... (and I shall cry if it doesn't qualify in itself for notability, or promptly gets prodded/sent to AfD five minutes after it hits main-space, but hey, that's life; draft under construction here ).

Question: The German WP article on this petrol chain, has a couple of pictures of Gasolin's logo at the top, but they don't appear when referred to in the English WP. The reason is that the files are in German WP, not in Commons. They can't be transferred to Commons because of copyright issues. I believe that it's allowable to show a company's logo, even though it's copyright, provided it's done in a low resolution, as an identifier of the company? Would this be an appropriate thing to do in an article on Gasolin AG? If so, how do I go about doing it? @Elemimele If you create an en-WP Gasolin AG article, then you can add a logo, after the article is moved to mainspace. You upload it locally at en-WP as well. This is fairly simple, start at Misplaced Pages:File Upload Wizard, click "Upload a non-free file" follow instructions, choose "This is a copyrighted, non-free work, but I believe it is Fair Use." > "This is a logo of an organization, company, brand, etc." A bot will take care of any high-res problem after awhile, so you don't have to worry about that part. What is second wiki?

In planning to expand and improve the article Lauricocha culture, I ran across the "second.wiki" website . At first glance the second wiki article is a translation into English of the Spanish language Misplaced Pages article Hombre de Lauricocha. It is a much more complete article than the present English Misplaced Pages article on the Lauricocha culture. What is second wiki? Could I just copy the English translation of the Hombre de Lauricocha article into the English wikipedia article with attribution? Or is this a copyright no-no? I am not experienced at copyright related stuffs but you could add some lines from spanish wiki to english wiki, and use reference as the referenced used in spanish wiki. DONT reference the spanish wiki page. Cite the reference which spanish wiki page has used in texts. If some text is used in spanish wiki, then using similar at english wont create any copyright issue imo. Also, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Redirect to incorrect entry. I tried to fix it, but it was reverted.

Folk University is an educational institution type mostly targeted at adults in Sweden (multiple, at least 6 schools throughout country), Norway (30 offices throughout the country) and Netherlands (as far as I know, there is only one, in Amsterdam). English Misplaced Pages has only an article for People's University of Amsterdam.

For some reason Folk University page is a redirect to People's University of Amsterdam. This is confusing and wrong. I tried to change the redirect into a disambiguation page, but it was reverted, because only People's University of Amsterdam has a Misplaced Pages page.

Another wrong redirect is Folkuniversitetet. It is a Swedish word and if it should redirect to anything, it should be some page about Swedish education system, or general page about folk universities (which doesn't exist), or a disambiguation page. There is no reason whatsoever for a Swedish word to redirect to Dutch Folk University, especially that Swedish institutions of this type exist.

What is the correct course of action here? Redirecting every general definition to a single page about one Dutch institution is a bad idea. It's like instantly redirecting the word Canal to Suez Canal, just beacause there is no entry for canals in general, or Panama Canal, or Canals of Venice. Marcos (talk) 12:35, 8 August 2021 (UTC)

Creating a new article when redirect already exists

Hi, I'm trying to create a new article for "Joan Irvine Smith" but a redirect already exists to a section of an existing article. Because of this I don't see the red link that gives the new page creation option. Not sure how to start the new article and remove the redirect, if necessary.

Map pics

Hello Teahouse hosts. I'm working on an article that is in my sandbox HERE, and I'm having some trouble when I insert images. For example, THIS ARTICLE'S IMAGE of the Plymouth Sound map is splendid with the location identified with a red dot and label which reads Plymouth Sound. I very much desire to use this red-dotted and appropriately labled image. However, when I copy the image file and paste it to my sandbox-draft-article, the dot and label drop out. There are a variety of ways of making maps for articles, Misplaced Pages:Maps for Misplaced Pages is a relatively comprehensive list of the various types and styles available. The ones with the red dot are made using Template:Location map, which requires you to specify two parameters, the map, and the location and style of the marker. The template documentation includes an explanation of the various parameters you can use and a couple of examples of how to set up a map with a marker.
