    Gaza–Israel conflict

On 27 October 2023, Israel began an invasion of the Gaza Strip in an escalation of its ongoing war with Hamas.

    Background

Main article: 2023 Israeli ground operations in the Gaza Strip

Beginning on 13 October, 2023, Israel began conducting several raids and operations in the Gaza Strip, in response to the Hamas attack on Israel, which lasted from 7–13 October. On 27 October, internet and mobile phone services in Gaza were almost completely cut off as Israel intensified its bombing campaign. Following this, IDF launched a large-scale ground incursion into the Gaza Strip. Clashes between Hamas and IDF were reported near the towns of Beit Hanoun and Bureij.

    Campaign

On October 28, the Israeli military reissued a call to Gaza residents to evacuate the north as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the "second phase of the war had begun".

The IDF advanced on three axes, simultaneously air strikes and artillery bombardment increased in intensity. On October 29, Israeli soldiers captured the town of As-Siafa in the Gaza Strip and raised their flag in the town.

    Reaction

On 29 October, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the head of the World Health Organization, described as "deeply concerning" reports from the Palestinian Red Crescent that the al-Quds hospital had received an urgent evacuation warning along with a notice that it was "going to be bombarded". He reiterated that it was "impossible to evacuate hospitals full of patients without endangering their lives." Associated Press reported that Israeli airstrikes destroyed roads leading to the Al-Shifa hospital, making it increasingly difficult to reach.
